I was pacing back and forth in my living room, waiting for Zoey’s call. There was no way I could sleep until I knew everything was okay.
“Seb?” Martha called from the hallway. She walked towards me and sat down on the couch.
“Why don’t you go with her? She needs you,”
“I won’t leave you alone here,”
“Come on. I may have the mind of a child, but I know when someone needs a person there for her,” she said, hugging me, “I will be fine. I already called the neighbor and she will be coming here to look after me. Go and check on Miss Torres, please.”
Martha was such an angel. I kissed her forehead and whispered a thank you before I walked out the door. The neighbor was already heading my way so I left the door open for her.
I hurried to my car
