CHAPTER 3

The world was tightly packed a hundred years ago. Humans live in peace and harmony, nurturing their culture and traditions and, at the same time, embracing modern technology. There were no hunters, monsters, or even bloodshed. That peace, however, did not last long.

Half of the earth's surface began to rise and float into the sky after being showered with blue essence. Monsters continue to spawn beneath the floating portion of the land and those who were left behind or who fell from the floating phenomenon are mercilessly slaughtered by the monsters. Many children and families' lives were taken, but the nightmare did not end there.

As soon as the land was separated, some people began to notice that there was a game-like feature in front of them. It said "AWAKENING COMPLETE". Most of them were confused as to what it was supposed to mean, but it became clear after a large and tall tower appeared at the center of the floating land.

"To those who've chosen their path and to those who are waiting for their fate". One by one, individuals who experienced awakening were teleported inside the tower and those who were not, remained.

The tower level one became a s*******r house as it introduced them to the words "hunting" and "surviving". People who refuse to accept the fact that they've been chosen to become a hunter face death, and those who accept it continue with their lives, giving some new valuable information to the new world they live in.

Since it was separated from the two main lands, people have started to call the floating land "Arce Dei" and the land beneath it "Terra Incognita". Terra Incognita became a place where people most feared going. Volunteers who came to gather documents about the land after the incident didn't come back and it remains undocumented at present. Arce Dei, well, it's the land where most are being awakened. In modern times, it is called "The High-rise Awakening".

That history created a path to study and to learn more about the new environment that they have set foot on. From equipment to armour, to machineries and new life forms. The knowledge was used for the better present. Hunter organizations and guilds have started to have their own form and power within the land.

The Hunter's Association and guilds became the foundation of Arce Dei. The Hunters united to form an alliance and also to secure their survival inside the tower. They form an alliance to complete and clear tower levels to make them accessible to merchants and alchemists.

There are three well-known guilds at present; Merit, Heather, and Gluttony. Merit is a guild where justice outside and inside of the tower is in the palm of their hands. They are being handled by Hyung Suk, an S-class hunter and president of the Hunters' association. Heather, the most pristine and rich guild. They are known to be the descendants of heaven because of their skills and attributes that are held by the "wing of an angel". Gluttony, the guild where the leader is known for being selfish and ignorant. The guild does not give importance to human life and offers it only if it's the means to survive.

"At present, hunters, merchants, alchemists, and commoners already had a grasp of the drastic change in the world and have fully adapted to the environment."

"Huh? Mama, that was deep. Can we just talk about our fathers? You didn't tell me much about him, mom. "

"That's so silly of you. Didn't I tell you to talk formally?"

"I'm sorry mom. Can you please tell me about your father? Pleased mama, pleaseee"

"That's for another day, Young Jae. Time to bed now. Sleep tight sweet cake. "

"Promise mama?"

"I promise Young Jae."

"Yay! Goodnight and I love you mama. "

"I love you too, Young Jae."

I could hear a faint conversation from a distance and although I hadn't fully regained my consciousness yet, I know who that voice belongs to. It's from my mom. I slowly opened my eyes just to be greeted by the blinding lights from the ceiling.

"YOUNG JAE!"

"Please, calm down ma'am. His body is still recovering and he might be in shock. "

"Young Jae, my son. What happened? You were found on the footpath unconscious. Please, please don't get too overworked. I do not know what will happen to me if you're going to do that again.. "

"Mom, calm down. I'm not going to leave you. You will not eat delicious food made by your great son. Hahaha "

"Oh dear, I'm so happy that you have regained your consciousness now."

"Will you excuse me, ma'am and sir?"

"Thank you so much, doctor."

"It's my job, sir."

I miss my mom so much. Her embrace is really comforting and I'm really thankful right now. I would believe that it might be a bad dream, but the skill set and status bar here say no. So I really got new skills and a title. I wonder what's new and exciting about this though.

Skills and titles depend on a certain trauma or thing that has a deep connection within yourself. For example, if a hunter experiences a certain trauma with knives, then his title will most likely fall to the assassin type. Of course, your skills and title level depend on the connection. The lesser the connection, the lower the rank of your skills and title.

"You were unconscious for four days, Young Jae. Yunny was visiting you every now and then. You should properly thank her."

"I know mom, I'm not a kid anymore though. I know you're worried, but things are better now. "
