Jasmine’s Email
To: Malakie
Subject: Meeting
We need to talk. Meet me at the old valley where we used to play around 11:00 don't be late
from :Jasmine
Just moments after her phone rang Sophie answered in a sympathetic tone.
:Hello Sophie speaking.
After a hesitant silence the person on the other line spoke wearily in a familiar voice
:how is she?
:she’s fine. She actually just woke up and i’m sure you know the doctors said she will be fine --Sigh-- You should really just come down here and see for yourself Malakie.
Sophie said earnestly, hearing him sigh with an obvious sadness. Finally Malakie spoke gloomily
:I can’t but thank you, Sophie.
:it’s fine Malakie I was just offering.
Sophie explained
:I'm sorry but could I ask you to do one more thing for me?
:sure whatever you need
Sophie offered
:can you continue keeping an eye on her for me?
Malakie asked desperately
:haven't I always? There was no need for that request. I would have kept an eye on her anyways.
Sophie said playfully with a hint of seriousness. You could hear Malakie laugh a bit. Sophie was happy to hear him laugh a little but it didn’t stay long. Malakie’s laughter turned sour
:yeah I guess so...unlike me:
:Malakie…:
Sophie started to speak but Malakie said stopping her before she could
:Nah it's fine:
:--Sigh--but you have been here for her even when you had to leave she just doesn't know that you were. You came down here like four times a month without anyone knowing: Sophie explained happily
:wait how did you know about that…: Malakie asked embarrassed
:Malakie I know you better than anyone else plus I kinda saw you checking up on me too: she admitted. Malakie went silent Sophie could imagine a blushing Malakie making her giggle happily
:weirdo, you should have just said hi
Sophie said
:yea I know Sophie but I just…
he paused his voice showing his hurt
:it’s completely fine. I understand! I'm just playing with you.
Sophie admitted there was another long pause the silence getting unbearably awkward
:hey Mal remember what we talked about yesterday
Sophie asked
:yea I know
he answered
:then come talk to her
Sophie said sincerely
:Soph you know I can't..
:then if not for yourself then for me because if you don't tell her I will!
Sophie stated seriously. He paused knowing that she was telling the truth
:Malakie you need this more than anyone. He broke HIS part of the deal first!
Sophie explained furiously.
:I got to go Soph I’ll talk to you later
Malakie said sadly
:Malakie wait --Beep--: “Malakie, hello? MALAKIE! Dange it.”
Sitting in a valley surrounded by nature, next to a little stream as it sparkled in the sunlight. “I thought you were the one who emailed me. I had hoped it was Jas'' Malakie said showing up behind me “would you have answered if it wasn't Jasmine? Besides I couldn't reach you anyway else and Jas certainly wouldn't have done it for me” she laughed hurt but calm. “Yeah you got a point there Sophie.” Malakie laughed, I stood up turning around to face him, the wind gently tossing my hair “so how have you been Malakie'' Sophie asked sweetly. “wouldn't you like to know?” he said playfully “I do, that’s why I'm asking” I was being sincere, serious, but he was turning this into a game. To be honest, it pissed me off! “Malakie look, you aren't going to win this. you can’t push me away I won't let you” I said determined, my words were sharp but sweet. “you should'' Malakie warned. “But I won't,” I said again. “I didn't come here to fight, I came here looking for Jas but since she's not here I'll say what I need to say to you first. Stop Looking!” he said in anguish “Stop caring about me all I need you to do is take care of Jas.” “what?” “I don't want to see you again, I didn't want to see you today but here I am. And after everything that's happened it's rather annoying.” He said it so coldly and plain it hurt, A LOT! my heart felt like it was being squeezed and stomped on. “So now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. I'm leaving so we won't see each other again ok,” he said coldly. Why? Why is he so cold and emotionless? I should have known that these eight years would hurt him, Sophie thought sadly to herself. He turned around to walk away but before he got too far I ran up behind him and hugged him tightly with all the love I could. He turned his head in surprise “I, I CAN'T DO THAT'' I yelled fearfully “I have known you for far too long and you are too important to me,” I said as I looked up to Malakie’s surprised face seeing the tears streaming down my face still being able to smile at him “so please don't say that” I asked pleadingly. He turned around so his whole body was facing me wrapping his arms around me engulfing me into a big, warm, and reassuring hug that calmed me down. Knowing everything was going to be ok. unable to lie any longer he hugged her tighter “I promise I won't leave you. Sophie looked up smiling “No one can make me. Not Samael, not you, not Jasmine, no one. I'm here no matter what ok” I said comforting him. Looking at me he cracked a small smile. Hugging him I was certain not to let him go. I had finally gotten a piece of him back and I wasn't letting him go not again, not this time. While in Malakie’s embrace my phone started ringing with Jack's number on the scream “Sophie here… WHAT! What happened!...will she be ok!...ok, ok. good I‘ll be there soon...take care of her ok'' hanging up I looked to Malakie with worried eyes. “What happened?” he asked nervously looking at a scared Sophie who was almost in tears. “Jasmine she...she got hurt. Jack’s taking her to the hospital now” Sophie explained “WHAT! What happened?” Malakie asked worry in his voice as we rushed to his car “I don't know yet but I have a hunch that it was Samael.” Sophie said certain. “yeah I figured he’d be here. He’s been following me since I left, but if I had known he would send Jasmine to the hospital I wouldn't have come back” Malakie admitted “No! Malakie, this isn't your fault! It's Samaels! Let’s just get to the hospital and not worry about that for now.” Sophie said running to the car and buckling in. “Yea I guess” Malakie agreed. “Just, try not to kill us before we get there,” Sophie said nervously. “No promises” he laughed as he made a really sharp turn driving off to the hospital as fast as possible.
Coming back to reality Sophie looked at her phone “I can't believe he hung up on me --Sigh--” Sophie pondered as she walked back into the room. Jack was still sitting on the side of the bed with Jasmine. “Sorry about that,” Sophie apologized. “so everything alright then,” Jack asked “yes just an old friend I was with earlier. I told them about what happened so they just called to see if there were any new updates on how Jasmine is doing” Sophie explained “so what y'all been talking about it seemed like you were in a pretty deep conversation when I walked in” Sophie asked. “Oh we were just talking about what Jack wants to do to his car” I explained excitedly “oh really what type of car” Sophie said interested “oh it's...” “it's a 79 Trans-am with a nice blue coat. It's a really beautiful car,” I said not being able to hold my excitement in. Quickly I realized I was interrupting “oops sorry I got excited,” I said cheekily making all of us laugh happily. All of us quickly settled down when a nurse in a baby blue uniform came walking in with two cups. “Sorry to disturb you all but she needs to take her pain medicine,” the nurse said politely as she walked over to the side of the bed. “Yea go right ahead ma’am,” Sophie and Jack said respectfully stepping aside out of her way. Quickly I took my medicine as fast and as carefully as I could so the nurse could go back to work. Once I was all done the nurse left happily back into the hallway throwing away the little cups that carried the medicine. “BLEH!” she said, her face showing her disgust. That medicine tasted horrible! You could read on her face. We all saw it, making us laugh. “Well at least you know it works” Sophie said laughing at my face. “Well I'm going to go talk to the doctor, see what we can do to get you out of here” Sophie said on her way out the door “you just want to run away from the conversation” Jack laughed. “Yep! So while I’m talking to the doctor you keep her company” she demanded. “Ok I will” Jack agreed As the door closed behind Sophie we looked to each other when suddenly Sophie stuck her head back into the room “don't do anything to her” Sophie laughed seriously. Jack stood up, putting his hands up “I won't! I’d never do that, EVER” Jack insisted. Laughing Sophie finally, closed the door and walked off. “Geez! She doesn’t trust me very much” Jack sighed, sitting back down. “No, it's not that.” I calmly reassured him “then what is it,” Jack asked distressed “She's always been a little protective besides we just started hanging out” I explained sympathetically patting my hand on his shoulder trying to comfort him. Thankful he grabbed my hand, gently squeezing. At that moment our eyes met and as if everything stopped, as if frozen as if the world had ceased to turn. Just for that moment, a time where our hearts beat as one but sadly everything had to begin again. Set back to reality as voices grew closer to the door of the room. The air still and silent as both our faces turned a Scarlet red. Sighing Jack turned to me “Jasmine look I...” suddenly the door swung open Sophie stepped in stopping Jack mid-sentence. Jack and I split apart so fast that you couldn't even see us move. Sophie came over to me happily “well the doctor said you could go home tomorrow but just to be safe they want to keep you overnight” Sophie explained. “Ok sounds fun” I said nervously Sophie looked at me suspiciously then to Jack who was avoiding eye contact “what did Jack do to you” she asked ready to fight. Both Jack and I flinched in response “what Jack didn't do anything” I assured. “You sure? you two seem weirdly awkward” Sophie said suspiciously looking at Jack with a glare. Nervously Jack stood up quickly. “Ok then how about since Jasmine is going home tomorrow the both of you come over to my house and hang out. We can talk about cars, swim, play video games. You can even meet my pets. just stuff to, you know, to celebrate you getting out of the hospital” he offered, overly excited. “Sure I don't mind sounds like fun but only if Jas goes” Sophie explained. Both of them turned both impatiently waiting for my answer “alright alright sounds like fun” I answered. “Sweet! And on that note I will be heading home so I can get everything ready for you to come home” Sophie said giving me a sweet smile “alrighty sounds good” I agreed graciously returning her kind smile. Suddenly in the sound of silence, we hear Sophie's stomach growl turning red as she stood to her feet. “Well I'll just go get us something to eat. You're probably hungry to huh Jas” Sophie started laughing. “yeah I can eat” I agreed. Smiling Sophie turned her head to look to Jack to ask “how 'bout you? You hungry?” “uh yeah I guess” Jack exclaimed with a shocked look. “alright! Then I will be back in a little while” Sophie said on her way to the door. “Oh wait I'll give you some money to pay for my share” Jack offered as he dug into his pocket for his wallet. Shaking her head Sophie waved it off not accepting the money Jack was offering. “Nah it's fine just keep Jas company...and safe” Sophie included as she walked out the door. “Umm ok,” Jack assured nervously as he watched Sophie leave the room. Leaving Jack and Jasmine alone together in awkward silence. Say something. It's way too quiet. SAY SOMETHING. I thought nervously to myself “listen, Jasmine about earlier I, I just” Jack started. “yeah” I said expectantly “just, just forget about it ok” Jack asked sadly “oh! Um ok” I said disappointed.
