Chapter 14. After almost a week had passed since Momma died. I got out an old dress Momma had gotten me.I was ten when I last went to a funeral but for some reason this time, there were no tears. I don't know why but they just weren't there. Looking in the mirror seeing myself in the simple black dress, and my hair behind a black headband. Looking in the mirror I could see my blank face. I hadn't cried the past week and today was no exception and I wondered to myself if I'll ever cry about Momma's death again. “Jas you ready we're leaving,” Sophie said as she came in wearing a black dress with leggings and black heels. With her hair up, She never did that and you could tell she had already been crying “you ready Jas” she asked again softly. I looked at her with the same blank face “yea lets go.” As if everything was in slow motion we all got into her Porsche, Malakie already in the front seat ready to go, his black tux and black tie slightly wrinkled from his anxiety. He always hated ties. He said they made everything seem worse but he never said anything if he could help it, and this time was no exception. After a few moments, we all got buckled in and Malakie started off to the lake. Momma had said when she was cremated to bring her here where she can see the sunset and be with daddy where he proposed to her. So we decided to take her to the place she loved and appreciated even though it hurt her. Momma I mean. It hurt her to come here but she still came. She said, “it kept her close to Daddy.” Yet when Momma was no longer able to get out of bed I came in her stead. I came here at least twice a year. Both Daddy's birthday and the day he died. But now the thought of Mommy and Daddy being together didn't feel real. “It's been a while since we've come here together hasn't it” I said, my voice shocking Sophie and Malakie snapping them back to reality, Sophie looked at me then to Malakie with sorrow filled eyes “Yeah the last time I came here was for your fathers funeral” Sophie claimed, “Yeah, I think that was the last time I saw y’all. --Sigh-- That was a long time ago” Malakie said “I’ve been coming here on Daddy's birthday and his death day” I said blankly. The car air stiffened with unease from the awkward conversation “that's good” Malakie said trying to lighten the mood. After about another hour of awkward silence, we finally arrived. Malakie grabbing Momma's ashes headed to the edge of the lake where it had the best view of the sunset, Momma's favorite spot. After waiting for a few more minutes making sure everyone who was going to show up was here. There were more people than I thought there would be. There was Malakie, Sophie, Sophie's family, the principal Mr. Daniels, Momma's pharmacist Aldean with her husband Rick, the librarian Mrs. Jain, and Jack with his family. Honestly, I didn't want to see anyone right now but I'm sure Momma would have wanted them all here with us. Taking a deep breath and stepping forward I looked to everyone “First off I'd like to say thank you all for coming to Momma's funeral. I know she would be happy to know all you cared so much about her to be here. I'm happy y'all loved her quirks and all. I know her death was sudden and not many people knew about her illness mainly because I tried to keep it quiet because Momma said it was for the best. I hoped she would get better. So there would have been no need for anyone to know but that's obviously not the case now. I also understand that this is going to have a great impact on all our lives. I mean, we've lost someone dear to us whether she had been a friend, family member, Mother, sister, daughter, Etc. Nonetheless she wouldn't have wanted us to be sad about her death but to celebrate her life and all the good things she had in it because she loves and loved us all in good times and bad so let's not cry for the sad but let's be happy about how long she did live because I know she lived a happy one.” I said as I opened the vase and shook out half the ashes then turned the rest over to Malakie and handed him the vase as he shook out the rest as the sun began to set. Afterward, everyone went home after giving us their condolences. With a sad Sigh, Malakie went over to the edge of the lake where I was standing ever so quietly. Putting his hand on my shoulder he said “we’re leaving now” he didn't say it demandingly but suggesting that I go with them “ok I'll just stay here a little longer. I need to do something after this anyways” I explained “you sure I mean we can drive you” Malakie said worried “Nah! I'll be fine go and hang out with Sophie. She was close to Momma too so make sure she's ok to” I said waving him off “but she’s fine it's you who I'm worried about” Malakie said calmly “I'm fine, really I'll call you when I'm going home ok” I said not turning towards him. Malakie sighed, “ok but if you need me call me,” he said knowing I needed some space so backing down he started off towards the car. “I will” I assured our backs towards one another. As Malakie and Sophie both finally got into the car Malakie regretfully backed out and started towards home. Leaving me at the edge of the lake. “Well I can't really say I'm alone, can I. You would say that I'm never alone but honestly it hurts Momma we’ve had too many funerals… and what's funny I feel sad but there are no tears” I said laughing bitterly “hey Momma is Daddy with you? Are you happy? I hope you are oh and I found out how Daddy died so he should sleep better...at least I hope so and I have a new friend, his name’s, Jack Williams. I think y'all would like him, I do he was here today for your funeral. He was with Dr. Patrick Williams, his Mom and his little sister. You know I'm happy to have a new friend. At least I think he's my friend. Oh I have a new song I made. It's really pretty wish y'all could hear it. It's called tragedy. It's a little sad but, I think I did a good job writing it and I think y'all would like it.” Standing there I breathed out a chilled breath as the wind blew my hair from left to right as the sun slowly set across the water the air chilled and silent. After standing there in the chilly evening I felt relaxed until suddenly behind me someone started clapping quickly. I turned around my heart-stopping, anger washed over me as the air grew colder than ice “Samael” I growled. “That was very beautiful Jasmine,” he said still clapping “what are you doing here Samael,” I said threateningly. “Well, I knew your mother as well. So I decided to come to give my condolences” he said with a sly smirk “I don't care if you did know her you're not welcomed here” I barked back my heart stinging “oh really too bad and I had some good news to give you all” he said as if he was speaking to Mommy and Daddy as well “nothing out of your filthy mouth is good. Everything that involves you is like poison to my family” I said strongly “oh really then I'm guessing you have all your true memories back?” he asked knowingly “yes as a matter of fact I do. With no thanks to you, you piece of crap” “well that's no language for a lady now is it even if you did get your memories back” Samael acted “my memories have nothing to do with being ladylike.” I yelled “ah yes but you were always such a doll around others even your own family. You never really did talk that much only to Malakie and your little friend oh what was her name? Sophie was it? You were even so quiet that you never even told your mother about all the bruises and scars you got from those bullies now did you” he said slyly. My anger rose as he smiled “then you should very well know that I can bring people or any living thing back from the dead then.” My eyes grew wide and my heart skipped a beat “oh did you not” he said his smile getting bigger “I did it's just I didn't think you..” I stammered. “What! Didn't think I would help...I'm hurt” he joked “why would you? I mean you killed my dad just for sport” I stated “ah yes that well it seems I had the wrong impression on what your brother wanted and it seems there is another thing that's suppressing his powers but altogether the death of your father. That was wrong on my behalf but, but, but, I would help you...” he smiled wickedly “if it's what you choose” he said bowing at me with that mischievous grin of his face. I didn't like it! Never did “you said it was what my brother wanted,” I asked my anger almost sucking me in “...WHAT MY BROTHER WANTED. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT FREAKING MIND WOULD WANT THEIR FATHER DEAD!? You're one sick twisted guy you know that” I said my anger boiling over. “Well my name is Samael after all isn't it,” he said happily “yea it is. --Sigh-- Well Hellboy I have a question” “it's demon king actually...” “I DON'T GIVE A DAMNED WHAT IT IS --Sigh-- what do you mean my brothers suppressing his powers” I asked with all seriousness. “Oh didn't you know he’s like me” Samael smiled. My eyes grew wide in horror “Malakie is nothing like you!” I denied “oh but indeed he is” Samael argued back “I'm done with you Samael...I'm done with you, your lies, everything,” I said walking past him. Grabbing my wrist he stopped me “don't you want to see them again” he asked with an evil emanating gleam in his eyes. “More than anything but I would only be hurting myself and everyone around me and I don't want to hurt anymore. I don't like feeling like this all the time so let go of me Samael” I voiced looking him sternly in the eyes “but you can see them, you can see your loving parents again and I can make it not hurt” he explained as he let go “and how would you do that” I asked doubtingly “I brought you back didn't I” he hinted as he stretched out one of his hands. Looking at him with sorrowful eyes, my mind racing, he sounds sincere…“I really want to see them again but what he has done to us” I whispered looking to his smiling face then to his hand hesitantly I reached as the wind shoved me forward “perfect,” He smiled. “She hasn't called me yet! Why hasn't she called yet?” Malakie asked worried “c’mon Malakie she's fine. She just needs time to herself you need to think y'all lost your mom Malakie” Sophie explained “yea I know that Soph but I...I just wish she would confide in me. She was almost lifeless today she didn't even cry” Malakie pointed out “she's cried a lot this past week” Sophie sighed “I know it's hard on her but...” “She's ok Malakie'' Sophie said reassuringly, grabbing his hand. “--Sigh-- I hope so,” Malakie said, relaxing. Suddenly his phone started vibrating. Quickly Malakie grabbed his phone out of his pocket to see Jasmine's name on the screen :Jasmine what took you so long…: :nice to hear your voice Malakie: Malakies eyes widened and anger filled him to the brim. :What the hell are you doing with Jasmine's phone Samael? What did you do to her?: :Oh Jasmine she's fine she just let me borrow her phone for a moment so I could call you: Samael said nonchalantly :let me talk to her: Malakie demanded. :Ah I'm afraid she can't talk right now: :WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER YOU FILTHY RAT: :nothing! At least not yet that is BUT if you want to see her you can come with me and find her. I'll see you at the old abandoned building you know the one: Samael laughed :I'll kill you! You..: :see ya then: :Beep- “That prick I'll kill him” Malakie growled “What! What happened to Jasmine” Sophie asked fearfully “Samael has her. I don't know what happened to her or what's going to happen but he wants me to meet him where he killed dad” Malakie explained “WHAT! What are we going to do” she asked “well I'm going to go get Jas back and you're going to stay here” “No I'm not. This is Jasmine's life we’re talking about. I'm going” Sophie declared “I can't bring you into this.” “I was already in it when he killed your father.” “Still if something happens I'll need you to call the cops or someone” “Malakie, I'm not just going to stay here and worry I'm going and there's nothing you can do to stop me plus she's MY best friend she's like a sister to me and you can't go alone” --Sigh-- “I'm not going to win this argument am I” “nope so let's go” she said ready to go “let's go we're wasting time” she said again, What do I see in this girl, he smirked “hold on” he said stomping the gas. “You're big brothers on his way my dear” “No! You’ll kill him” I cried “Oh don't worry I won't kill him...immediately” “Why? Why are you doing this” “aw my dear there is not always a reason for everything” Samel laughed “so you're just doing this for fun” “oh no no no it's not just for fun this is just the only way but I will have fun torturing him to death” “no, I won't let you” I cried “oh but you already have, when you took my hand” he said tilting his head towards me smiling with curiosity. l
