CHAPTER 4

1017 Words
Jerald climbed into his Maybach automobile at 6 p.m., and his assistant clerk assumed the driver's seat as they drove out of the subterranean parking lot towards Jerald’s mansion “Clerk, I need all of the information about my son's new nanny, Tessa. I need to know everything about her past and present life." Jerald placed an order. “I will do just that, Mr. Jerald." Clerk spoke. "Mr. Jerald, it seems you're forgetting the appointment you have with your parents today." The clerk said, hoping to make his supervisor recall. “I didn't forget. We have to go home first, and then we may proceed." Jerald says, and Clerk simply nods. After a long drive, they arrived at the mansion. Jerald got out of the car and began walking towards the door. He couldn't wait to see his daughter after so many long hours. “Welcome Mr. Jerald" Greetings continued to ring out from any maid he passed. He ran up the stairs to Tessa’s room, where he expected to find his daughter. As he approached the door, he could hear laughter emanating from the chamber. A one-year-old baby laughs, and also the laughter of an adult. He felt his heart warm up at that time. Without knocking, he entered the room. Tessa, who was lying on her bed beside the infant, threw herself off. "Welcome back, Mr. Jerald." She greets, keeping her glance on the floor. She doesn't want to stare into his eyes because she fears the same feelings she had earlier. “How's my daughter doing?" Jerald asks as he kisses her forehead. The young baby was staring at him intently, with no emotion. Jerald could swear that he had never seen his baby smile or giggle at him. But today, he had heard his infant laughing at her nanny. Does this imply she enjoys her nanny? Jerald couldn't help but think about these questions. "Has he taken his bath?" Jerald asks, finally glancing at her. “Yes, Mr. Jerald," Tessa spoke immediately. “Okay, dress him in more covering garments. We would all be going out for a while." Jerald stated. Tessa considered asking him where they were heading, but she knew it would be insulting. She watched him leave her room and immediately started working on the baby's dress. She carried her out of the room and down the stairs to the living room, where Jerald was sitting. "We're ready, Mr. Jerald." Jerald goes out of the living room without responding to Tessa’s words. Tessa took that as a hint and followed him out to the parking lot. They all stepped inside, and his assistant drove out of the premises. The stillness in the car was a touch awkward. Dorothy had fallen asleep, and Jerald was staring blankly ahead on the road as if he were the one steering the car. Tessa looked out the window at the street lights that beautified the city as she reflected on her earlier talk with Lora. "Tess, what is your boss's name? I'd like to learn a few things about the individual who allowed my friend to work again." Lora stated that she was very happy. “I think his full name is Jerald Washington," Tessa spoke into the phone. “What? Jerald is your boss? B. But when did he have a son?" Lora enquired suspiciously. “What is the matter, Lora? Do you know him?" Tessa expresses amazement at her outburst. “You didn't know who Mr. Jerald Washington was before now, Tess?" Lora asks excitedly. Tess could still not understand her friend. "I didn't know him until now, Lora. I only met him today, and you know that." Tessa said. Oh my God, Tess. You're so boring because you don't know who Mr. Jerald Washington is in New Orleans. He's the demi-god you've always heard about in New Orleans. He's quite affluent and only has one celebrity girlfriend, but I recently learnt that they've split up. I'm bewildered right now about how he has a daughter. Who could have given birth to that child? The Laila I knew would not agree to have a child when she wanted to advance in her career." Tessa couldn't help but wonder about the baby's mother after remembering everything Lora had told her earlier that day. Where might her mother be? Why wasn't she the one caring for her child, rather than a nanny? These questions kept running through her head. She continued stealing glances at him, wondering if she could ask him the disturbing questions. But then his face was devoid of any emotion. Tessa soon chooses to be quiet and mind her own business in his home to avoid being fired. Tessa felt the drive was taking too long. But suddenly, they arrived at their destination. The clerk drove through the large gate and parked in the parking lot. “Get down," Jerald shouted to Tessa as he exited through the other side of the door. Tessa instantly got down, holding the already sleeping infant in her arms. She goes behind Jerald towards the lovely building in front of her, and she can't help but wonder who lives there. "Son, you've arrived." The instant Jerald walked through the door into the living room, and a woman smiled and hugged him. “Who's she?" She asks abruptly, having fixed her gaze on Tessa. " Mom, She is Tessa, Dorathy’s babysitter,” Jerald stated. "Good day, ma'am," Tessa responded immediately when she saw it was his mother. She looked so young and attractive. "Good day to you, too." Mrs Washington spoke as she lifted the sleeping baby from her arms. “My granddaughter is looking more beautiful than ever." She cooed, glancing at Dorathy’s sleeping face. “Come over to the dining room, son; dinner is served. Your dad is upstairs and will join us soon." Mrs Washington spoke as she made her way to the dining room. Tessa thought it would be best to return to the car and wait for her employer, but then she heard his words, "Come with me to dinner."
