Chad froze, trembling, hands shooting up in surrender. "Logan, you got it all wrong! I'm Olivia's brother—we went to school together as pups!" Bang— A gunshot rang out, and Chad's right ear fell to the floor. "Aaah!" He collapsed, writhing and screaming, blood smeared across his face, his pants soaked with piss and worse. The air reeked of filth. Logan didn't flinch, taking a handkerchief from a bodyguard to cover his nose. "I want the truth by dawn." Chad's screams faded as he was dragged away, leaving a trail of blood. Logan stepped out and headed for the elevator. The sea outside the glass walls shimmered with the first light of dawn. As sunrise neared, the pain in his heart grew sharper. He knew what awaited him in the top-floor suite—Sophie's belongings, relics of his lost mate
