Chapter Two Nessie left the bed and breakfast as soon as the sun had risen behind the hills in the distance. She muttered a quick goodbye to the landlady, who was rummaging in the kitchen and slipped out of the door. Her first night on land had been restless and she couldn't wait to move on. Sleeping on a hard mattress without the sound of the water had been hard. Her body was achy, probably because she'd never stayed in her human form for this long. The other kelpies had assured her that there was no need for her to shift to kelpie form regularly to survive, but she didn't like the dry feeling of her human skin.
