Olivia’s POV
I couldn’t sleep.
The events of the past few days were a blur, a swirling mess of confusion and revelations that I wasn’t sure how to handle. The truth about Tristan, about the werewolves, and about the bond between us was overwhelming. But it wasn’t just the supernatural world that had me reeling—it was the fact that I was tied to all of this. That I was his mate.
I tossed and turned in bed, my mind racing as I tried to make sense of it all. I should have been frightened, maybe even angry, but all I felt was... numb. A part of me wanted to run, to leave everything behind and forget any of this had ever happened. But another part, the part that had been drawn to him from the very beginning, refused to let go.
The pull was undeniable, like an invisible thread tethering me to Tristan, and I knew that, for better or worse, my life would never be the same again.
I heard the soft knock on my door before Tristan’s voice filtered through the wood. “Olivia? Can we talk?”
I opened the door before I even realized what I was doing. Tristan stood in the doorway, his usual confidence replaced by a hesitancy I hadn’t seen before. It was as if he was waiting for me to push him away, and in that moment, I realized just how fragile the connection between us really was.
“I didn’t mean to disturb you,” he said softly, stepping inside. “I thought you might want to talk.”
“I... I don’t know what to say,” I admitted, my voice barely a whisper.
Tristan sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. “I know this is a lot to take in. But you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. You can ask me anything. I’ll answer. I swear.”
I stared at him for a long moment before finally speaking. “How long have you known?”
He looked away, a flicker of guilt crossing his features. “Since the moment I laid eyes on you. I knew you were my mate. But I couldn’t tell you. Not until I was sure.”
My heart skipped a beat. “So, you’ve known this whole time? You never said anything?”
“I wanted to. I really did. But I had to be certain. I didn’t want to scare you off,” Tristan explained, his voice earnest. “And I didn’t know how to explain everything, especially with the pack and everything else. It’s complicated.”
I shook my head, trying to wrap my mind around everything he was telling me. “But why me, Tristan? Why did it have to be me?”
“Because you’re my mate,” he said simply. “I can’t explain it any other way. It’s not a choice—it’s fate. You’re the one I’m meant to be with.”
“But I don’t even know what that means. What does it mean for us? What does it mean for my life?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“It means we’re bound together, Olivia. We’re a team. You’re not just a human, you’re my equal. The bond between mates is powerful. It’s not something we can break,” he said, taking a step closer. “It’s what makes me stronger. It’s what keeps me grounded. And I promise, I’ll protect you with everything I have.”
I felt a strange comfort in his words, but there was still so much I didn’t understand.
“Tell me more about the pack,” I said, my voice trembling slightly. “What exactly do you do? How does this world work?”
Tristan’s expression turned serious, the lightness that had been there earlier now gone. “The pack is everything to me. It’s my family, my responsibility. We protect each other, we fight for each other. But it’s not just about fighting. It’s about loyalty, trust. We have our own way of living. There’s a hierarchy. I’m the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. That means I lead, I protect, and I make the hard decisions for everyone. It’s a heavy responsibility, but it’s mine.”
“You’re the Alpha?” I asked, surprised. “That’s... a lot.”
He nodded, his gaze softening as he looked at me. “It is. And it’s not easy. But I do it because I have to. Because my pack relies on me. And now... you do too.”
I shook my head. “I don’t know if I’m ready for any of this. I don’t even understand it.”
Tristan stepped closer, his eyes soft but intense. “You don’t have to understand it all right away. You just have to trust me. Let me show you what it means to be a part of this world, to be a part of my life.”
“I don’t know how to trust you,” I admitted, my voice shaking. “You’re asking me to believe in something I’ve never known, something that’s... impossible.”
“I know,” he said, his voice low and soothing. “But I’ll be here, Olivia. I’ll show you everything. I’ll prove it to you.”
I felt my breath catch in my throat as his words wrapped around me, his presence comforting and yet overwhelming. There was so much I didn’t know, so much I couldn’t even begin to comprehend. But with Tristan standing in front of me, with his unwavering gaze and his promise of protection, I couldn’t help but feel a small glimmer of hope.
Maybe, just maybe, I could learn to accept this. To accept him.

Tristan’s POV
I watched Olivia as she tried to process everything I had just told her. I could see the confusion, the fear, but also the uncertainty. She didn’t understand this world—how could she? But that was why I was here. To show her. To help her understand.
I hated seeing her so unsure, so vulnerable. She wasn’t used to this life, to the idea of being a mate, to the world of the pack and everything it entailed. But I was determined to guide her through it. I had to. She was mine, and I wasn’t about to let anything, or anyone, tear us apart.
“Don’t be scared,” I said quietly, my voice full of resolve. “We’ll face this together.”
Olivia met my gaze, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions. “I’m not scared of you, Tristan,” she whispered. “I’m scared of everything else.”
I stepped closer, reaching out to take her hand. “And I’ll protect you from everything else, Olivia. You don’t have to face this alone. Not anymore.”
Her fingers curled around mine, the contact sending a jolt of warmth through my body. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. A sign that she wasn’t completely shutting me out. That, maybe, she was willing to try.
And for now, that was enough.
