Chapter 10: A Moment of Peace

1107 Words
Olivia’s POV The next morning, I woke up to the sun streaming through my window. For the first time in days, I didn’t feel the weight of confusion pressing down on me. It was as if the sunlight was offering me a moment of calm, a brief escape from the whirlwind of emotions that had been consuming me. I stretched and yawned, the events of the past week still fresh in my mind but somehow more distant now. It was like I could breathe again. As much as I didn’t fully understand the world Tristan had pulled me into, I had decided to take things one step at a time. I got up and made my way to the kitchen, the smell of coffee already wafting through the air. My phone buzzed on the counter. It was a message from Sarah. Sarah: Hey, I’ve been thinking... how about we have lunch today? I could really use a break from all the crazy stuff lately. I smiled at the text. A break sounded perfect. I quickly texted back. Olivia: Yes, please! I need a little normalcy. I grabbed a mug and poured myself a cup of coffee, savoring the warmth that spread through me as I took a sip. A few moments later, I heard the soft knock on the door. "Olivia?" Tristan’s voice came from the other side, and I froze for a second, feeling that familiar pull deep in my chest. I opened the door, finding him standing there with a tentative smile, looking like he was trying to gauge my mood. "Hey," he said softly. "I thought I’d bring you breakfast." I raised an eyebrow. “Breakfast?” He nodded, holding out a small paper bag. “I figured you might want something other than just coffee.” I took the bag from him and peeked inside. It was a croissant and a fresh fruit salad, neatly packed. “You didn’t have to—” I began, but Tristan cut me off. “I wanted to,” he said simply, his voice low but warm. “I know things have been... a lot. I just wanted to do something nice for you.” I could feel my heart soften at the gesture. It was simple, but it was also thoughtful. In the midst of all the supernatural drama, moments like these reminded me that Tristan wasn’t just an Alpha or a werewolf. He was someone who cared about me. “Thank you,” I said, unable to stop the smile that tugged at my lips. Tristan’s gaze lingered on me for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, as if remembering himself, he shifted awkwardly. “I’ll leave you to your breakfast. But I’ll be around later, okay?” I nodded, watching him turn and walk away. As I closed the door, I couldn’t help but feel a little lighter. Maybe this bond, this connection between us, wouldn’t be so bad after all. Maybe, just maybe, I could learn to navigate this new life. --- Tristan’s POV I left Olivia’s apartment with a strange feeling in my chest. I didn’t know why, but seeing her smile—truly smile—made everything feel a little easier. It was a reminder that, despite the chaos and the unknowns, we could still find moments of peace. The morning had been a reminder that I wasn’t alone in this, that Olivia was willing to try, and that was enough for me. I didn’t expect her to understand everything right away, but I wanted her to see that I was here. Here for her. As I walked down the hallway, I ran into Aiden, one of my pack members. He gave me a knowing smirk, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief. “Breakfast run, huh?” Aiden teased. “I thought you’d be more of the ‘big, strong Alpha’ type. But here you are, playing the thoughtful guy.” I rolled my eyes. “Shut up, Aiden.” “Oh, come on. You can’t tell me you’re not enjoying this,” he pressed, leaning against the wall with a grin. “The mate bond is strong, huh?” I sighed, crossing my arms. “It’s complicated. But... yeah, I’m enjoying it. I care about her.” Aiden raised an eyebrow, the teasing tone in his voice softening. “I can see that. It’s good, man. You’ve got a good heart, even if you are a little hard-headed at times.” I didn’t respond to that. Instead, I focused on the part that mattered most—Olivia. She was still learning, still adjusting, but I knew she would come around. She had to. She was my mate, and I was going to make sure she felt safe, understood, and most of all, loved. “I’ll catch you later,” I said, turning away from Aiden and heading for the pack’s headquarters. --- Olivia’s POV By the time I met up with Sarah for lunch, I was feeling a little more at ease. It was nice to have some time away from the intensity of everything that had happened. Sarah was a breath of fresh air, a reminder of the normal life I used to have. She greeted me with a wide grin, practically pulling me into a hug. “You’re alive! I was worried I wouldn’t see you for a while.” “I’m here,” I said, laughing. “Just... taking things one step at a time.” We sat down at the café, and Sarah immediately started chattering about the latest gossip from work. It was the kind of conversation I hadn’t realized I missed—light and easy, with no talk of werewolves or mates. As we ate, I realized that, despite everything, I was still me. I still had my friends. I still had my life, even if it had been turned upside down. And I didn’t have to figure out everything all at once. For now, I could just enjoy lunch. Enjoy a break. --- Tristan’s POV Later that afternoon, I found myself on a run through the woods. The familiar feeling of the wind rushing past me as I shifted into my wolf form was calming. It helped clear my mind. But today, my thoughts kept drifting back to Olivia. I had to admit, I was still trying to figure out how to make this work. But what I did know was that I wasn’t going to give up on her. No matter how hard it got. She was my mate. And I’d do anything to make her see that she belonged with me.
