Chapter 6. HE IS SO HANDSOME
The announcement about the tutoring partners spread fast that morning.
Everyone was buzzing—half excited, half panicked—especially Arka.
Meanwhile, Kaal didn’t even look up from his notes when Arka burst into the classroom.
“Kaal! Guess what! My partner’s really Mira!” Arka practically shouted, loud enough for the whole corridor to hear.
Kaal raised a brow. “You sound like you just won a lottery.”
What's wrong with his head, I clearly already told him yesterday.
"Well, Everyone says she’s like… perfect.” Arka leaned closer. “You jealous?”
Kaal gave him a flat stare. “Should I be?”
Arka grinned. “Maybe. You’ll miss me when I start studying with her every afternoon.”
He really thinks I’ll cry about that? Kaal sighed, packing his books neatly. “Good. Maybe you’ll actually learn something this time.”
Arka squinted at him. “Why do you sound so cold? Don’t you care about your favorite classmate?”
“You’re not my favorite anything,” Kaal replied, standing up. “Anyway, I have to go meet my own partner.”
“Who’s the unlucky soul?”
Kaal glanced at his phone. “A student named Reo. From class six.”
“Reo?” Arka frowned. “Never heard of him. He new?”
“Does it matter?”
“Of course it matters!” Arka exclaimed. “What if he’s weird? What if he’s a pervert? What if—”
“Then I’ll deal with it,” Kaal said shortly, walking off. “Try not to cry if Mira ignores you.”
Arka pouted at his retreating back. “You’ll miss me first,” he muttered.
Kaal didn’t even respond—he just walked away before he said something he’d regret.
But deep inside, he already knew this was going to be exhausting.
⸻
The study room was quiet when Kaal arrived—bright sunlight spilling through the tall windows, glinting off the clean whiteboards and rows of neatly arranged desks.
One student sat near the window, writing something in a neat notebook. His uniform looked almost too perfect—crisp collar, sleeves rolled just so, and not a single wrinkle in sight.
When the boy looked up, Kaal felt his breath hitch for half a second.
He was handsome.
Not the flashy kind like Arka—who always looked like he’d just rolled out of a drama audition—but the calm, composed kind that drew you in quietly.
The boy smiled as he stood. “You must be Kaal.”
“Yeah.” His handshake was firm but warm. “Nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you—top of your class, right?”
Kaal blinked. “Who told you that?”
Reo smiled. “Everyone, apparently. You’ve got a bit of a reputation.”
Kaal felt an odd mix of pride and irritation. “Don’t believe everything you hear.”
“Oh, I don’t. I prefer to find out myself.”
There was something in Reo’s tone—light but teasing—that made Kaal’s ears twitch.
He sat down quickly, pulling out his notes. “Let’s start.”
Reo chuckled. “Straight to business. I like that.”
Kaal ignored the comment and began explaining the formula written on the board. Reo listened attentively, his gaze steady, nodding occasionally,
Asking questions that actually made sense. His handwriting was neat. His attention—impressive.
Still, every few minutes, Kaal could feel Reo watching him.
Not in a creepy way—just curious. Like he was studying Kaal more than the subject.
It was… distracting.
“Any questions so far?” Kaal asked, trying to sound professional.
Reo leaned forward on his elbow, chin resting on his hand. “Yeah, just one.”
Kaal braced himself. “What is it?”
“Do you always frown this much when you teach?”
Kaal blinked. “Excuse me?”
“You look too serious,” Reo said with a grin. “Relax a little. You’ll scare me before I even fail.”
Kaal blinked at him in disbelief. “I’m not here to entertain you. I’m here to help you study.”
“Then you’re doing both,” Reo said smoothly.
Before Kaal could respond, a loud voice came from behind the door.
“KAAAAL!!”
Kaal closed his eyes. He didn’t even need to look.
The door burst open, and there he was—Arka, storming in with his usual hurricane energy.
“Hey! I was just passing by and thought I’d check how you’re doing with your new—” He froze mid-sentence.
His gaze landed on Reo.
“…Whoa.” He blinked. “Okay. He’s handsome.”
Reo chuckled. “Thanks, I guess?”
Kaal rubbed his forehead. “Arka. What. Are. You. Doing. Here.”
“I’m supervising,” Arka declared, walking in like he owned the place. “You know, making sure the student doesn’t faint from your scary aura.”
“This isn’t a factory,” Kaal muttered.
Arka ignored him and leaned close to Reo, squinting suspiciously. “So you’re Kaal’s partner, huh?”
“Yes,” Reo said easily. “And you are?”
“I’m his… everything.”
Kaal almost fell off his chair. “Arka!”
“What?” Arka said innocently. “You don’t want him to get the wrong idea, right? I’m saving him the heartbreak.”
Reo smirked. “Oh, don’t worry. I’m not easily heartbroken.”
Arka frowned, clearly not liking that answer. “Good. Because Kaal’s taken.”
Reo smirked. “By you?”
Arka blinked. “Obviously.”
Kaal nearly slammed his notebook shut. “No one’s taking anyone!”
Kaal exhaled sharply, glaring at both of them. “It’s going to be chaotic, thanks to a certain uninvited idiot.”
Arka just grinned proudly. “You mean your emotional support system?”
Reo chuckled. “I can see this partnership is going to be interesting.”
Kaal glared at both of them, wishing the ground would swallow him whole. “If you’re done making this awkward, can we go back to studying?”
“Sure, sure,” Arka said. “I’ll just sit here quietly.”
He sat in the corner. For exactly twelve seconds.
“Hey, Kaal, I didn’t know you could explain stuff so clearly. You never talk that nicely to me.”
“That’s because you never listen.”
“Ouch. Brutal.”
Reo laughed quietly, eyes sparkling. “You two have great chemistry.”
Kaal ignored the heat rising in his neck. “Arka, if you’re staying, shut up.”
Arka leaned closer to him and whispered, “You like him?”
“No!”
Reo looked up. “What was that?”
“Nothing!” Kaal snapped.
Arka smirked, satisfied. “You’re blushing, though.”
Kaal’s voice turned deadly calm. “I will stab you with my pen.”
Reo laughed again, shaking his head. “You guys are really entertaining. I might learn more about love triangles than math at this rate.”
Kaal wanted to throw himself out the window.
"Go back to your partner!"
Arka grinned. "Fine, see you later."
