‘Are they unclaimed?’ He asked. ‘Yes, sir.’ The teens were facing each other, but not speaking. Their attention, it seemed, was on a dark gray ball on the floor between them. Slowly, it rose. ‘What the—‘ ‘Keep watching, sir, it gets even better.’ When the ball was level with the children’s chests, it started to spin on its axis, slowly at first, then faster. Soon it was spinning so fast, Martin could only see a series of thin gray circles in the air. And then there was nothing. The ball was gone. The children looked at each other and smiled. ‘What?’ ‘Brilliant!’ said the teacher, clapping. ‘Bring it back.’ The children stared at the space from where the ball had disappeared. Their concentration was intense. Martin could feel it and he wanted to be part of it, so he stepped closer,
