Valerie's POV
The loud ringing in my head woke me up and my first sight was the Alpha king lying next to me. I jumped up in fear and my head ached.
"Aish! What happened to me?" I placed my hand on my forehead as I shifted to the edge of the bed, making a large space between me and the sleeping Alpha King.
Why did he keep me on his bed?
I tried to get up when a hand held mine and forced me to lay back on the bed.
"What are you doing?" I screamed, trying to free myself from the king's grip. He was holding me tight to himself, "Let me go!"
"So you can try to escape?" His voice came out raspily.
I looked up at his face even though I shouldn't.
"I'm not trying to run away. I'm hungry." I said and he let me go.
I rolled back to the edge of the bed and sat up.
"You like the edge of the bed, don't you?"
"I don't. I just can't be seen lying with the Alpha king."
He leaned closer. "What's wrong with that?"
I looked at him before looking down. "Everything is wrong with it, Alpha. I'm your servant."
"It's Your Majesty. Don't call me Alpha outside or in front of my guards. They will lock you up for demeaning my authority."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"You're right. You're just my servant. My personal servant to be precise. But I could choose to do anything I want with you...including sleeping with you."
I shuddered as his eyes lingered around my chest. I didn't dare to look at his face.
"Lie with me." He said and I shot him a sharp look.
"What?"
He sighed and pulled me down on the bed.
"I didn't say you should f**k me. Just lie beside me like this."
I stiffened my body, making sure my body didn't touch his.
His gaze studied me.
"Are you scared?"
I shook my head nervously at him.
"No, you are." He said and sat up, "Don't worry, you're still owing me so I won't hurt you. I only want you to rest. The doctor did say you will have a bad headache when you wake up, do you?"
I nodded quickly in response to his question and watched him leave the bed.
I was amazed by how beautiful his body looked. His back was broad and tight, chiselling in around his waist region. His arms were sculpted into broad toned muscles.
I breathed in to calm the heat rising inside my body. But something about the numerous scars on his back triggered it the more. Each of the scars told a story I didn't know. I felt like going to him and tracing the scars with my fingers.
Shit.
I shouldn't be thinking like this. He is the Alpha king for goddess sake. My new master.
I watched him put on a wine coloured night-robe. He turned around to face me and my jaw dropped.
The sight of his chest, muscles and deep abs on his flat belly made my core throb.
Oh my! This man was a god.
I couldn't stop imagining nasty things about him and me.
Aish, Valerie, stop it. He can never be yours.
But despite my efforts to stop myself from thinking about the Alpha king the way I was, I couldn't stop. The thought of him bedding me and making me his lingered in the front of my mind.
I couldn't understand why I was longing for the Alpha King. I couldn't understand why my body reacted to him the way it did. It never happened with other men.
He was hot, yes, but girl, control yourself.
"Hmm. Why do I smell arousal?" I stiffened, hearing the king's voice and watched him sniff the air around me.
The knock on the door distracted us and opened, revealing the woman who accused me of being a spy.
I quickly stood up from the King's bed as the woman walked in with a tray of food. Her eyes were fixed on me. A young girl followed her in holding another tray of food.
They dropped the trays on the table opposite us. It had chairs around it, like a mini dinning.
Both the girl and the woman bowed their heads to the Alpha king. "Your Majesty." They chorused.
"I see you have a new assistant, Liz." The King said.
"Yes, Your Majesty. She's a good girl. I got her from the orphanage on my last visit."
"It's an honour to serve you, Your Majesty." The girl bowed her head again to the King.
"And you must be Valerie?" The woman asked and I nodded. She continued, "I acted so rashly the other day. I'm sorry."
I smiled and nodded to her.
She smiled back. "I'm Liz, the head kitchen staff. I'm in charge of all the operations in the kitchen."
I gave her another short nod, smiling.
Her face and that of the girl was familiar. I was sure I'd met them somewhere before. For the girl, it certainly wasn't in an orphanage because I've never been to an orphanage.
"I didn't know Holly was giving you a tough time. I would have changed her a long time ago." Liz told the King.
The king smiled.
"I just had a change of heart. Holly didn't do anything wrong."
"I guess the second tray you ordered is for the girl. Is she going to eat with you?" Liz asked the King, who strolled to the table, tasting his food.
"Can't I?" He looked over his shoulder at her and Liz laughed. You could tell the laugh wasn't from her heart.
"We will leave now, Your Majesty." She bowed her head and turned to leave with the girl when they suddenly halted.
"Excuse me," Liz turned to look at me, "Have we met somewhere before?"
My heart raced.
I couldn't deny how familiar she looked.
I was sure wherever we met before wasn't anywhere good.
