Chapter ten

Alpha King Ethan's POV "You've got some nerve, Hugh." I said to the Mayor and he smirked at me. "I didn't come for trouble. I'm here for peace." Fynn scoffed while I maintained eye contact with the Mayor. "What sort of peace are you asking for after you tried to kill me?" I asked him. He sighed and relaxed back on his chair. "You got it all wrong, Ethan Hunter. Who would dare go after the Alpha king?" "Then why did your men attack us at the Bridgewood road?" Fynn snarled at him. "Fynn," I called in the mindlink. "Yes, Your Majesty." He answered in the mindlink. "Find Valerie and take her to my room. Stay with her and do not take your eyes off her." "Okay, Your Ma—but who will…be here with you? I can't leave you alone with this ass—" "I'm not your pup, Fynn, neither am I your wife, so go now." I cut him off in the mindlink and he left without saying another word. Hugh Grant was sitting before me in my office. Two of his men sat at his sides while another stood behind him. More of his men were stationed at my doorstep. I saw them when I walked in. The Mayor leaned forward to me. "You know why I'm here, Alpha King. It's the same reason why you thought you were attacked on that road. I was never after you. I was after her." I glared deep into his blue irises. "Then you should leave now, Hugh, before I change my mind." He bursted into laughter. "I know I took a risk by coming to your castle with just a few guards." He laughed more before steadying his gaze at me, "You know why I did that? Because I know you will never hurt me in your pack lands. Unless, you desire to cause a rift between my race and your race." I smirked, watching him silently. "You're right." I acknowledged, "But that wouldn't stop me from taking my revenge on you. Don't worry. It's not gonna be today." "I have her with me now, Your Majesty." Fynn dropped in my mind. "Where are you guys?" I asked, wanting to be sure that he did as I said. "In your bedroom with her." "What's she doing?" I asked further. "She's eating." "Okay, keep your eye on her and don't let your guards down." "Got it, Alpha king." He closed the link and I redirected my gaze to the Mayor who have been staring at me. "I see you're doing that mind trick thing you folks do." Hugh said and I ignored him. "What's your relationship with her?" I asked him. "We worked together." "Isn't that a bit vague? What business would a servant she-wolf and a Mayor of a city have?" The Mayor's eyes gleamed with annoyance. "It's complicated, Ethan. More than you can think." "You're definitely hiding something, Mayor." I told him and he frowned. "Fine. We knew each other three years ago and worked together in an organization." "What organization?" He glared at me. Frustration written all over his face. "I can't say it. We swore an oath." I chuckled. "That's ridiculous." "It's not. You know what? Just give me the girl already." I leaned forward to him. "I can't. I don't care about the past you have with her. Right now, she belongs to me." The Mayor laughed. "Belong to you? How? Because she's under your roof? I guess you really don't know who is living with you. Do you even know her real name?" He chuckled and continued, "Oh, Ethan, I wonder how much lies she's been feeding you with." "Then tell me what you know about her." I locked gaze with him, "If you think she's been lying to me. Tell me who she is." The Mayor huffed. "What's the use of that if you won't let her go?" "I will." I added and he was shocked. I smirked and continued speaking, "After I kill her." Hugh’s brows furrowed. "Why? You've been protecting her all this while." "Protecting?" I scoffed, "I will rip her head off her body the next second if I confirm all she's been saying to me are lies." "Wait. After all I told you about believing her leading to your ruin, you still believed her?" "I don't. I don't believe you either. Go back to your beautiful mansion, Hugh. When I'm done with her, you can have her." I stood up. "And when is that?" "I don't know." "Geez, Ethan. What more would you have me say before you hand her over to me?" "Leave now, Hugh Grant." I strolled to my desk and backed Hugh and his men. "Look, Ethan, she's not who you think she is. You can't control her." I scoffed. "Then tell me...who is she?"
