MIRANDA
"You are now his Luna, and you're happy? Oh, you are doomed," He said, planting fear in my heart.
I could only think of one reason why my stepfather would say this to me. Once I'm gone, he won't have me around to do his work and to bully constantly.
After my father died, he took my mother and I in, marrying my mother with so many promises to take care of us.
But when Mom was taken away just like father, my stepfather turned into the devil he truly was, tormenting my innocent heart.
That's why he's mad. He's trying to scare me with his words.
But I won't allow it.
"You can say whatever you want to say, but I won't allow you to ruin my happiness," I said to step father, who bursted out laughing at my words.
"Happiness? Did you just say happiness, Miranda?" He laughed out more.
"Wait until you get home with him, then you'll know if you've arrived or not. A marriage without your father's blessings is no marriage but a curse."
"I had my father bless me through the Alpha himself. He's a better father figure than you, " I fired back, leaving my stepfather stunned at my words.
"At least he's better than you in uncountable ways. He has tried to make me fit well in the pack, but you have only planted nothing but pains in my heart, and you think I'd need your blessings? No!" I yelled.
"I've always prayed to the goddess that when it's time for me to wed with my mate, I won't allow you to stand in as my father, because you are not my father."
"Get out!" He ordered in anger.
His voice no longer terrified me. I stood confidently, walked into my room, and proudly carried all my belongings.
I am finally a free bird. My stepfather can no longer control my life.
I took my bags and walked out of the house, avoiding eye contact with him.
Once I stepped outside, the door came slamming at me from behind.
"Whatever. I am not coming back here anyway," I said, proudly walking away from my home.
I haven't gotten that far when someone pulled me into a dark corner, slamming my back against the wall of another building.
I looked up and found Derek, glaring down at me in rage.
The sight of his gaze left my heart pounding in fear.
Is he going to hurt me before I leave?
"You just couldn't wait. You feel you're so lucky now, don't you? " He questioned, tightening his grip on me.
"What did I say about showing up at the festival? Didn't I warn you?!" He slammed me harder again.
"What do you want from me, Derek?" I questioned him, putting on a bold face.
His eyes twinkled at my question, like I had slapped me across the face.
"Aren't you the one who keeps on calling me names, saying I'm not needed here in the pack? Why are you still bothering me? What do you want?!" I yelled at him, pushing his hands off me.
Derek couldn't utter a word but stared back at me.
"All these years you didn't give me any breathing space. You always bullied and made my life a living hell. Now that I've gotten the chance to leave the park, do you feel I'm not needed? Do you still want to trouble me? "
"You disobeyed me when I warned you to stay back!" He yelled at me, slamming me against the wall again.
I felt my fear almost rising when Derek did this. What made me scared even more was the look in his eyes.
His eyes were glowing red just like the true blood of an Alpha.
"I told you to stay back, and you still came over. Now you're married to that Alpha and you think it's fine?!"
"Yes, it is fine."
"No it's not!" He shook me just to silence my words.
"It is not fine. You are now mated to someone else! How... Why... Arrgh!" He groaned, slamming his fist into the wall behind me.
I gasped in fear on seeing this. What is wrong with Derek now?
Is he mad that he won't get to bully me if I'm gone?
"If I had known that this was going to happen, I would have found a way to prevent you from stepping out. If I had done this, then you wouldn't have been marked by Hugo." He stared at me, panting out.
I stared at Derek. His behavior felt so weird, uncomfortable, and different.
It's like I don't recognize him anymore as the bully that made my life here in the Dark Wolf pack miserable.
"No matter what, Miranda," he said, shining his red eyes at me.
"No matter what happens, I'm going to make sure you leave Hugo."
I was shocked to hear this from him.
"With the goddess as my witness, I'll make sure you are no longer with that man. You don't belong to him, Miranda. You don't," he said with seriousness.
From his tone and words, I had no choice but to believe that Derek is bent on ruining my happiness.
He just can't stand the fact that I'm married and won't be around for him to ridicule.
And it's not just any marriage, I'm married to an Alpha who is much tougher than him.
Just then, I heard Hugo calling out to me. My heart skittered, sending me pushing Derek aside and running out to meet my husband.
"What happened? What were you doing over there? Hugo asked when I got to him.
"It's nothing. I was just arranging my bags, "I lied, acting like my bags had opened up.
"Alright. It's time to go, "Hugo said, signaling one of his guards to take my bags.
"Let's head home together," Hugo said, smiling at me.
I felt joy engulfing me. Finally, I'm married, and I'm also Luna.
I took a look back and saw Derek staring at me with bitterness in his eyes.
I don't know what's wrong with him.
He better accept reality. Miranda is now a queen.
