Austin staggered into the room, his hands shaking so violently he almost tripped over the threshold. He looked completely unhinged. The manicured, arrogant face I had known for two years was gone, replaced by a mask of pure shock and disbelief.
"Pregnant?" Austin choked out, his voice cracking painfully. He stared at my stomach, then up at Alex, his eyes wide with a mix of horror and denial. "No. No, that’s impossible. Chloe, tell me he’s lying! We were together just days ago. You can’t be pregnant with his child!"
My throat went entirely dry. The sheer weight of the massive lie I had just signed onto pressed down on my chest. I couldn't speak. One wrong word, one stutter, and our entire contract would implode right in front of the two most dangerous families in the city.
