Episode 1:: The Rejection

831 Words
The wedding dress was the most beautiful thing Zara Cole had ever worn. White silk flowed around her like liquid moonlight, hugging her figure perfectly as she stood before the grand mirrors of Black Moon Manor. The women of Silverstone Pack had spent the entire morning fussing over her appearance. "You look like a true Luna." "Alpha Caden is the luckiest man alive." "The Moon Goddess herself must favor you." Zara smiled at every compliment. Today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. After years of dreaming, hoping, and praying, she would finally become Luna of Silverstone Pack and wife to the most powerful Alpha in the realm. Alpha Caden Black. Tall. Feared. Respected. Untouchable. And somehow, he had chosen her. Or at least, that was what she believed. The great hall glittered beneath hundreds of crystal chandeliers. Ancient banners hung from towering stone walls while elders dressed in ceremonial robes gathered near the altar. Three hundred pack members filled the room. Everyone was smiling. Everyone except the groom. The moment Zara stepped through the doors, her eyes found Caden standing at the altar. His expression was cold. No smile. No excitement. No affection. Just a hard, unreadable stare. A strange feeling settled in her chest. For a brief second, she wondered if he regretted this marriage. The thought vanished as quickly as it came. "No," she whispered to herself. This was simply who Alpha Caden was. Cold. Reserved. Powerful. He wasn't known for showing emotions. Yet as she approached him, the uneasy feeling remained. The ceremony began. The elder recited ancient vows passed down through generations. The crowd listened in silence. Caden repeated every vow perfectly. But his voice lacked warmth. His words sounded like obligations. Not promises. Not love. Obligations. By the time Zara spoke her vows, her palms were damp with sweat. Something wasn't right. Something felt terribly wrong. Then came the bonding. The sacred moment every wolf dreamed about. The mating bite. The final step that would unite them forever. The elder smiled. "Alpha Caden Black, claim your Luna." A hush fell over the room. Caden stepped closer. Zara tilted her head. Her heart pounded wildly. This was it. The beginning of forever. She closed her eyes. His breath brushed against her neck. Seconds passed. Nothing happened. The room grew strangely silent. Too silent. Confused, Zara opened her eyes. Caden wasn't looking at her. His gaze had shifted toward the entrance. A look of shock crossed his face. Then longing. Raw, desperate longing. The kind of emotion Zara had never seen him show before. Slowly, she turned. And saw her. A woman stood at the doorway. Golden hair. Storm-gray eyes. Travel-worn clothes. Breathless. Beautiful. The entire room gasped. Whispers erupted immediately. "No..." "It can't be..." "She's back..." Zara's stomach dropped. Because she knew exactly who the woman was. Selene Voss. The woman everyone believed was dead. The woman destined to be Alpha Caden's true mate. The woman he had loved long before Zara entered his life. The room seemed to spin. Selene's eyes locked with Caden's. And in that instant, something invisible crackled through the air. The mate bond. Everyone felt it. Everyone. Including Zara. The realization struck like a knife. Caden wasn't her mate. He never had been. His true mate was standing alive before him. Caden took one step toward Selene. Then another. Not toward Zara. Toward her. The woman who had returned. The woman who owned his heart. The woman who was never supposed to come back. Tears threatened to rise. Zara forced them down. Not here. Not in front of three hundred witnesses. Not in front of him. She would not break. She would not beg. She would not humiliate herself. Without a word, she removed the bouquet from her hands and placed it carefully upon the altar. The flowers trembled slightly. The only sign of the storm raging inside her. Caden finally looked at her. For a moment, guilt flashed across his face. But guilt wasn't enough. Nothing could fix this. Nothing. Zara lifted her chin. Her voice was calm. Deadly calm. "Congratulations, Alpha." The room froze. Even Selene looked stunned. Zara smiled. A beautiful smile. A broken smile. "The Moon Goddess finally gave you what you always wanted." Then she turned and walked away. One step. Two steps. Three. No tears. No weakness. No looking back. Behind her, someone called her name. She ignored it. Behind her, chaos erupted. She ignored that too. Because with every step she took away from that altar, something inside her was changing. The sweet girl who had spent years waiting for someone to choose her was dying. And in her place, something stronger was being born. Three years later... The entire werewolf realm would tremble when Zara Cole returned. Not as an abandoned bride. Not as a forgotten Luna. But as the most powerful woman they had ever seen. And the Alpha who rejected her? He would beg for a second chance.
