Tamara I sat on the edge of the bed with my knees pulled up to my chest, staring blindly at the wooden door. I did not want to go out again. I did not want to face the pitying glances or the mocking smiles of the pack members who had watched me get humiliated just hours before. How did we get back to this point? I thought he actually felt something real for me beneath all that cold armor. But sitting here in the quiet dark, I realized I was just a fool. A big, pathetic fool to ever believe that he could truly care for someone like me. My mind went back to the sharp words Elder Miko had thrown at me in the office. The elder was right. He did not actually love me. If he did, he would not have publicly cut me down and pushed me away just because I reacted to seeing him standing too close
