Chapter 12: Captured Midway

I opened the back door and stepped outside. In this gas stop, there are some food restaurants on the side. I first checked the gas station if they were still collecting some.
"Hello? Anybody there?"
No response. I went inside the station to check on some stuffs. They must have passed at this point and so I'm just examining the place.
Gas cans with different colors are scattered. They were tightly closed which prevents them from leaking. There were no signs of people around here and so I went outside and straight to the restaurants.
I passed by different places and found where Rodner and the other is. They were eating peacefully on a restaurant as if there were no apocalypse that's happening.
"Hey."
I said while opening the door. Karri and the others looked surprised. They thought some intruder just got inside the restaurant.
"Oh CJ."
I then sat down beside Rodner. Karri and Jaira was in front of us while Loraine was on the right side.
"Here, start eating."
Jaira gave me a food. It consist of burger with scattered layers of cheese, vegetable and meat on it.
"We were actually about to bring you and Rias food since you guys stayed up late and can't join us here."
Karri explained. We continued to it while having some good conversation. It wasn't that long when we finished the food and went back to the van.
"Hey here. Keep this. Give it to Rias when she woke up."
Karri gave me another burger. I'm pretty sure Rias should be hungry when she came back to her senses. I sat down properly as Loraine was in front of me.
I took a look outside. We're still travelling in a highway. I can't figure out the place which I think I haven't got in this place before.
Grass on the side of the road are still as green as a lively plant. It looks peaceful around here except the zombies that are lurking around. They were hidden on the tall grass which makes it harder for them to be seen. Danger is always around the corner.
I closed my eyes to rest. I've seen enough chaos already. I wanted this to end. When will that happen?
Darkness' the only thing I could see. I can't hear anything like my brain blocks my senses. Even my sense of touch is not working.
Explosion. I heard and felt something. Something loud occurred. My head stings.
I opened my eyes. I felt how fast Jaira driving is. Behind us was massive explosion that comes off every time.
"Landmines?!"
Rodner shouted. I realized that we're not on the highway anymore. We're in a plain land with landmines planted around.
"Crap!"
Rias woke up. She was still dreamy as her eyes shows signs of waking up. Jaira was still driving in full speed as we trigger the landmines around.
Suddenly, we stopped. The last explosion occurred and it almost broke the back door. I could feel how strong the burst is.
"There were no landmines at this point."
Jaira explained. I started to look around to check for any signs of life. What caused for things to happen like this?
Suddenly, we heard someone laughs from afar. Jaira put down the windows and there, we heard some sort of a speaker coming from the building in front of us.
"Welcome to the land of the Hikarians!"
The guy shouted. Is this some joke? What just these landmines are doing around here?
"Your surrounding area consists of landmines. And at this point, you can't escape. The only choice you have left is to join us!"
The person laughed after those words. This is... A nefarious act.
"Now, please get down of the van."
I looked at everyone. We all share the same response. A shock. I took another check around and it's still the same scenery. A flatland with landmines around.
"We don't have a choice aren't we?"
Rodner said. I don't feel like agreeing, but it's the fact. Our vehicle can't keep the same speed it uses earlier as the surrounding "safe" area is kinda small.
"Let's surrender."
Rias said. We then slowly left the van and went outside.
"Good."
The guy said. Suddenly I saw the building open gates. They had some sort of a soldier with them that ran through us. Behind, was another explosion that could be heard. Zombies gathered because of the noise earlier.
"They are here!"
"Get your weapons ready."
Rias said while I took out the Prime Pistol on my back. I hold on to it and prepared to shoot. I slowly aimed at the zombies and waited for them to get closer.
The landmines seems to be deactivated as the zombies that walked closer to us doesn't trigger it. While I was to pull the trigger, someone shot from the back. I haven't seen any lasers except it was only noise that I noticed. They must be using the old "metal bullet using" guns.
"Drop your weapons!"
The soldiers shouted as they reached us. I then went aiming at one of them. I don't even know if this could help.
"Drop it CJ. It's no use."
Rodner explained while he surrendered kneeling on the ground. The others did the same and I'm the only one standing up.
"Drop the weapon!"
The soldier warned. There are 4 of them and each looked skilled. Even if I shoot one, it won't work.
I threw the gun on my side. I then started to kneel on the ground and put my both hands on my head.
The soldiers brought out some sort of a tape and started tying our hands. It wasn't that long when we were brought to the building in front of us.
As we entered the gates, people surrounds us from the sides. It was like we're in a stadium with us in the middle.
"What are these people?"
Loraine whispered as she walked beside me. I took a glimpse on them and they looked like normal people, except their stares are really odd.
Suddenly, in front of us, a platform lowered. There was a person standing on it. What's more odd is that he's holding a microphone.
"Welcome!"
The guy said. He has a huge smile on his face. I stared at him in fear and shock.
"I haven't introduced myself yet have I? Well, my name is Hikari. The leader of Hikarians."
A huge smile still remains on his face.
