Chapter 14: A Delicate Plan

    "Life is harsh. It's not a game where you could go take everything easy. This is the reason why I'm like this in front of you. It wasn't because I'm born like this. It was for you guys."

    The teacher said that got off-track from the lesson. I listened carefully as I don't want to get scolded. Earlier ago, one of my classmates asked why she was always strict to us.

    "Remember, life is full of suffering. But it doesn't mean that you'd give up. Fight. There's a way out of any problems you encounter. In every suffering comes contentedness, pleasure and happiness. Always remember that class."

    I woke up from a dream. What was that again? It was like a teacher is discussing some life lesson. Is that it? But I don't remember having that kind of situation before. My brain's formulating different situations huh.

    We were still inside the prison cell. Karri was still sleeping while Rodner was looking down from the side. He must have been thinking about something.

    Suddenly, a guard came in from the room. He was checking each cells until he passes us by. He had a sharp look on our place feeling like he doesn't have trust on us.

    "The lunch will be served, wake that girl already."

    The guard commanded while leaving the room. Rodner then crawl beside Karri and pushed her a little to wake her up. It wasn't that long when her eyes opened.

    "What is it?"

    "The guard told me to wake you up."

    Karri sat down. I was still here, sitting on the south-west corner of the room. I was trying to cover the hole as we won't like getting caught right now.

    It wasn't that long when a huge muscular guy entered the room. He gave some sort of a food to each cells. It has a disgusting look which makes it inedible.

    "Here."

    The guy said while opening the lock. He gave the food and closed the cell afterwards.

    "What in the world is this?"

    Karri said in disgust. I felt like not eating after seeing this. Suddenly, I heard someone whispered from the hole.

    "Pst, 'mister-newbie'."

    "What is it now?"

    "I had a new plan in mind."

    Rodner then appeared behind me. It seems like he now knew about the hole. Besides, our talking could be heard from a distance.

    "Are you sure that now's the time to talk?"

    Rodner asked. He must be making sure of it as danger of being caught is still around.

    "Definitely. We're here for weeks already and I took note of the guard's movement."

    "Okay then, what's your plan?"

    "This one requires sacrificing someone... Are you okay with that?"

    Rodner looked at me. It seems like we both doesn't want someone to sacrifice himself.

    "We'll hear you out."

    "Alright. So someone should go to Hikari's main office and control the landmines there. He should detonate one bomb farther from us and attracts the zombie. While the rest, escapes from here."

    I thought for a while. Attracting zombies? Why do we need such thing? Maybe I should ask.

    "Why do we need to get the attention of the monsters?"

    "There should be at least a distraction for the savior right?"

    "Oh yeah..."

    "Then who will do the job?"

    I looked at Rodner. It's either me or him. Sneaking would be hard, but both of us seems suitable. The only difference was the courage between us.

    "I'll do it."

    Someone said from the back. It was Karri. Me and Rodner looked at her in surprise. So she have been listening...

    Mark smirk. I don't know the reason why, but I guess he has planned this things out.

    "Good, then let's start."

    "So how do we do it?"

    I asked. I'm not sure if Karri already thought this out.

    "I had a plan."

    Hours passed. The sun was hitting a direct light on the middle of the cell. It was around the afternoon.

    "Hey Karri, sorry about yesterday."

    "No, don't worry about that. And besides, I should be the one saying sorry to you."

    I smiled. I guess everything is fine between us.

    "Before everything happens, let's all meet at the parking lot of this mall afterwards."

    Rodner explained. Karri nodded and so I felt like she's about to do the plan now.

    "I'll start now."

    Karri stood up. She ruined her shirt and pants. I looked away as I don't like to see what she's doing.

    "Anyone! Help!"

    Karri shouted. The loudness surely can be heard from the outside. I prepared of the things that could happen.

    Minutes passed and I think the guards had already passed the message to their leader. I could hear the door opening leading inside our room. There was footsteps.

    Suddenly, Hikari appeared in front. Still in his black hoodie, hiding his face. In his outfit, I can't believe that he's a leader of a group.

    "What is it a damsel in distress?"

    Karri paused for a moment. It wasn't that long when she started talking.

    "This two guys! They tried to touch me!"

    My eyes widened. To be honest, Karri haven't explained her plan which is why we're just going along. Rodner seems normal as he averted his eyes to the situation.

    "Please let me stay by your side! I don't want to be stuck here with this bastards!"

    Karri added. I turned around in shame. I can't believe Karri could do such thing.

    "Get her out of here."

    Hikari ordered. The muscular guard ran outside and went back inside with the keys in him. It didn't took long before the cells were opened. Hikari then put his arms on Karri's back, as if like they were friend for too long.

    "Beat those guys up."

    "Wait what!"

    "Willingly sir."

    The guard slowly went inside while Karri made her way outside with Hikari. I should defend myself.

    "Enjoy."

    The guard said while smiling. He looks like a psychopath. It wasn't that long when he lifted his arms and started hitting me. I blocked my face with my arms. I won't like turning unconscious after this.

    "Oh come on! Why don't you show your pretty face!"

    Suddenly, the guard averted his attention. He then grabbed Rodner by the neck. I realized that Rodner was already trying to escape and the guard just caught him.

    Rodner was trying to remove the grip on his neck. I decided to stand up and start beating up the guy. But he's too muscular and too big that my punches doesn't work on him.

    In an instance, the guard loosen up his grip and kicked Rodner on his stomach. He looks beaten up and can't even move anymore.

    "Your turn."

    The guard smiled. I know for sure that I would end up being a punching bag.

    My vision blurred. Everything turned black. Ah. I must have been hit from the head.

    I got back to my senses. I looked around and I could still see the red sky from the outside.

    "Oh. Exactly 30 minutes huh. Amazing."

    I was lying on the corner. I could feel my whole body hurting. Mark was already looking from the side.

    "Get up now, the plan should continue."

    "Ah yeah."

    I had a hard time sitting. My arms hurt from blocking those punches earlier. I checked around and saw Rodner lying on the metal bars. He looked beat up the same as me.

    "This metal bars... Is newly built isn't?"

    Rodner said. He then started kicking it.
