At Light House Teaching Hospital
David hastily exited his BMV and rushed into the reception.
"Nurse! Nurse! I am here, I'm Mrs Regina's husband. Where is my wife? How is she doing?" David asked, trembling.
"Calm down, Mr David, your wife is in the hands of a renowned expert surgeon. We will try our best. Kindly sign this form kindly", a nurse replied.
David signed the Operation form while the nurse left to attend to some patients.
David's feet paced outside the operating room, his eyes were fixed on the door. His hands clenched and unclenched, his fingers were trembling with each passing moment.
He stopped pacing, took a deep breath, making himself calm and then leaned against the hospital wall, eyes fixed on the floor. Memories flooded back into his mind :Regina's smile, her laughter, and their life together.
Suddenly, he stood upright and started pacing, his footsteps echoing down to the hospital corridor. He checked his watch, to him the time felt like forever, the seconds ticking with long slowness.
David's face was filled with fear, anxiety and worry. He muttered to himself, "Please, God, let my wife be okay. Let her come out of this horrible situation."
He moved forward to the front of the operating room door, his hand reaching out to the handle. Hesitating, he dropped his hand. The antiseptic smell of the hospital filled his nostrils.
David's eyes wandered to the reception, where his mother-in-law sat, her eyes streaming with tears. He walked toward her, then turned back to the operating room door, his heart heavy with great concern.
The sound of footsteps approaching made him turn around. A nurse in scrubs, her face sympathetic, approached him.
"Mr. David?" she said softly.
David's heart skipped a beat. " Yes?"
The nurse's expression signals hope. " The doctor will be out soon to update you."
David looked sternly at her, searching for reassurance. " Is my wife...?"
The nurse smiled gently. " The doctor will explain everything."
David nodded. He took a deep breath and returned to pacing with his eyes fixed on the operating room door, hoping Regina would come out whole and healthy.
Time seemed to stretch and compress, each moment seemed like forever.
Just then, the operating room door opened, David stopped pacing and moved forward to the entrance. Doctor Kan emerged .
"Mr David, the operation was a success. Your wife had fibroids which grew so big due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy… After delivery, it ruptured and led to heavy bleeding, so she already underwent a surgery process called hysterectomy…
She is okay now but still in the recovery process as she needs a lot of rest." Dr Kan said,
"Thank you so much Doctor, but what about my child?" David asked, being relieved of fear.
"Not to worry about, she's in the pediatric unit, the birthing specialist will take good care of her". Dr Kan replied, reassuring David while he left for some other things.
David took a deep breath, being relieved of a huge burden. "Hmmm... Thank God, she's okay now, and my child is in good hands", David muttered, and left to break the good news to Regina's mom, who was seen shedding tears at the reception.
"Mother, Regina is fine, the operation was successful. Please do not cry anymore, it breaks my heart to see you cry", David said softly, consoling his mother-in-law while he took out a white handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the tears off her eyes.
"Okay, my son, so my daughter is fine now," she asked, seeking reassurance.
"Yes, she's good, but the doctor said she needs alot of rest. We will come back to visit her tomorrow when she is awake", David replied.
David and his mother-in-law walked out of the hospital into his BMW.
Minutes later, David approached the mansion's entrance, the horns deep sound' echoed through the air. The security personnel standing nearby immediately responded. With a nod, the guard pressed a button, and the gates swung open, revealing a beautiful estate within.
David pulled into his packing spot filled with different car collections. A Range Rover, a Mercedes-Benz, and a Lamborghini, each sparkling, looking ready for use, after which he stepped out of his BMW and entered the estate.
Back at the hospital in the VIP room, Regina suddenly opened her eyes. " Where am I?" Regina asked, trying to raise herself up from the bed.
"Welcome back, Mrs Regina, you woke up earlier than expected. That's a good sign. Be rest assured there is no problem, you are really okay". The nurse said with a gentle smile on her face.
"Where is my child and husband?' Regina further inquired.
"Your husband was here early today till the end of your operation. We told him to come back to check up on you tomorrow since you were still fast asleep. Also, your child is in good hands. Just relax and get better soon". The nurse replied softly.
" Okay, thank you nurse".
"You're welcome ma, if you need anything, do not hesitate to press the call button." The nurse replied with a broad smile on her face.
"Sure I will". Regina replied.
Regina reached out for her phone on the table besides her, scrolling through her phone for Paul's messages.
"Hey Regina, I heard you've delivered. Congratulations. How are you doing and how's the baby?"
Ignoring those messages, Regina reached out to Paul through a phone call.
"Hello Paul, I am fine, I was just informed I had surgery." Regina said.
"What! Surgery? I thought you had a successful normal delivery? What went wrong?" David asked in curiosity.
"All I can remember was shouting out for help, then everything went blank. I am fine now". Regina replied, recalling what happened.
" Okay, I'm relieved, that's good". David replied,
"Yeah, we will talk later". Regina replied while ending the call afterward.
Within a few minutes, Paul opened the door of the room where Regina was with a bouquet of Daisy flowers in his hand, his face filled with a broad smile revealing his white sets of teeth.
"Paul, what are you doing here!" Regina asked, being shocked by his coming.
"Relax, can't I come check up on you and see how you're faring?"
Just then, a nurse came in.
"Ma'am, your husband called. He is coming to check up on you, he was happy to hear you are awake." She said with a smile and turned back, leaving the room.
"Paul, you see, my husband is on the way. He must not see you here." Regina said, her face expressing fear.
"Okay, I will leave." Paul replied.
Just as they were discussing, the door opened.
