LEAH's POV. I walked in the school doors, my mind heavy with thoughts from last night. I had barely slept after the dinner with Hardin's family. The whole night, our conversation just kept replaying in my head. "Maybe this isn't working," He'd said. I walked straight to my locker, keeping my head down. I dumped by bag and pulled out my phone. I glanced across the screen and for a second, I expected a text from him but there was nothing. My heart sank at his silence. After I got home, I had almost texted before deleting it. Over and over, I tried convincing myself that all this was a fake relationship and it was bound to end someday. But why was it so hard for me to make peace with this? That it was finally over. My life could finally go back to the way it was, boring and peaceful.
