The voice lingered in my mind long after it had faded.
“Taya…”
I could still hear it, deep and steady, like an echo from a forgotten past. I didn’t know how, but I knew Caius was waiting for me. And he had known I was coming long before I even spoke his name.
Ethan stirred beside me, immediately on alert. “What is it?”
I hesitated. If I told him I’d heard something, he’d worry. If I told him it was Caius
His jaw would lock, his fists would clench, and he’d swear to kill him the second we found him.
So I said, “Nothing.”
Ethan didn’t believe me for a second.
His blue eyes studied me carefully, scanning my face for any sign of a lie. I held his gaze, trying to seem unaffected, but the problem was Ethan knew me too well.
