I sat up, pulling the sheets around me as Ethan swung his legs over the side of the bed. His muscles were tense, coiled like a predator ready to strike, his mind already three steps ahead. I knew better than to ask if I should stay behind. That wasn’t who I was. And Ethan knew it. He reached for his shirt, but before he could pull it on, I slid out of bed and placed a hand on his shoulder. His skin was warm beneath my touch, but his body was rigid.
