I walked towards the fridge, opening it and taking out some eggs and vegetables and started cutting up some tomatoes, cucumbers and some paprika and placed it on a plate and then the table. Chris was whipping out the eggs and frying them on a pan. I took out three plates and three forks for the food and put them on the table. Chris was done with the eggs and started serving the egg scrambles to us. We sat down and started eating in silence.
"Alright... We need a plan now, how we are going to do it. We can't leave you alone, Camille, it will be too dangerous and you can not come with us because that will be even worse... We need to find Jenny, Leon, Mike and then we need to confront and arrest the boss, Nicolas Gill. Then we contact the government and my team, and we get the hell out of here." Chris started talking, explaining a plan. "Camille...Do you know any secret places in the city where you could stay safe?" Chris asked Camille. "There is a spot beneath the hospital, I saw Nicolas go down there a lot of times when I visited my grandma... He put in a very long code and quickly sneaked through the door, not letting anyone in. I remember that one day, someone, well an old guy called Richard, tried to come in and he was shouting throughout the whole hospital that he was our doom, that he would murder us all, and then security took him out and he was never seen again. I think the Gamma's main headquarters might be there or at least something bigger and more dangerous." Camille explained. "Alright then, we are heading to the hospital then... You will come along until we find someone who can protect you while we go down." Chris answered. Camille nodded as she took a bite of the bread. I was deep in thoughts, so deep that I managed to zone out.
"Evie?" Chris's voice brought me back to reality. "Y-Yes?" I shivered as I answered him. "Is everything alright?" Chris asked me, placing one hand on my thigh. "Y-Yes, everything is alright," I answered him, giving him a sweet smile which he returned. "Oh, I see how this is..." I heard Camille say, teasing us both. "W-What? C-Camille, stop it." I said, blushing like insane while Chris let out a chuckle, keeping his hand on my thigh. I let out a sigh and placed my hand on top of his, gently squeezing it. "Now, eat up, we are leaving soon," Chris ordered as he stood up and took his plate away. "Camille...Pack some clothes in a bag so just in case we will have time and take them with us as we leave this place." Chris turned around and faced Camille. She nodded and ran downstairs to her room. "Now, how about...You... mister.... stopped being all flirty with me when we are around people." I told Chris, looking sternly at him. He let out a small laugh. "Sorry, your reaction was and is too cute to stop doing that..." Chris said as he came closer to me, got on his knees and placing a soft kiss on my lips. "I will try my best to keep my distance, but don't expect me to not keep you close when danger is around... I will protect you with my life if I have to." Chris whispered lovingly. "D-Don't..." I whispered back. I placed my hands on Chris's cheek, gently stroking them. As we enjoyed the moment, we heard Camille run up the stairs and into the kitchen. "I'm ready!" Camille stated. Chris stood up and started walking out of the kitchen. "Alright. It's time to go." Chris said, looking at us. I stood up and walked to him, keeping Camille close to me. "They are slow during the day, but don't let your guard down at any time," Chris ordered as he checked his gun and reloaded it. I nodded and we started walking outside. The city was filled with zombies. But they were so slow, tripping over other corpses, some of them didn't even notice us walking by them. I felt Camille grab my hand and held it tightly. I look down at her, seeing fear on her face. Being her age, and acting so brave like she did right now. She lost her parents, her brother got into this mess and probably is a part of this and she is with two unknown people like me and Chris. She is so strong and brave. I will do anything I can, just to protect her.
We kept on walking down the street, watching out for zombies. Then, we arrived at the police station once again. Camille's hand tighten around mine as we walked towards the huge metal gate, seeing two zombies tumbling their ways towards the gate. They were groaning and stumbling at the gate, hoping that they would go through it and snack on us. Chris aimed his gun towards the zombies and shot their head and they both fell on the ground. "The gate is jammed, we can't go in here," Chris said as he shook the gate, trying to open it. "We can go in the back, the same way I came in yesterday. It should be still open." I said lowly, watching over the tumbling zombies behind us, slowly coming closer to us. I aimed my gun towards them and started shooting them in their head, watching them drop down one by one. "Alright now. Evie, lead the way, I will back you up!" Chris ordered me. I started going towards the back of the building, shooting every zombie that came close. We quickly made our way to the back, running down the stairs and through the door, letting Chris lock the door behind us. "How did you know about this passage?" Chris asked me, breathing heavily. "Heh, well I usually sneaked in here when I wanted to visit Jenny. We usually met up here and then we sneaked into her office and kept blabbering there." I answered Chris, smiling sweetly at him. "But now, let's get moving into the main hall, we need to find Leon and a safe place for Camille to stay at while we are gone," I told Chris, my voice is way more serious than ever before.
"I want to stay with you, Evie..." Camille whined as she hugged my waist tightly. "Camille you can't come with us, it is way too dangerous for you," I said softly as I lowered myself down to her and hugged her back. "Don't worry, we will be fine. We will get you out of here too, don't worry." I said as a gently pulled away from her. Suddenly we heard someone stomping their way towards the room we were in. "s**t! EVERYONE OUT!!!" Chris shouted at us as the door got slammed down, revealing the same monster who ripped apart Lucas and nearly killed me. The fear rushed through me as I had the flashbacks rushing back. But I quickly gathered up my courage and started running out of the room with Camille. "CHRIS!" I shouted at him. "RUN! I WILL FIND YOU!" He shouted back as he started shooting the monster. We ran outside the main door and came to the jammed gate. I quickly unlocked it as we ran out of the place. "E-Evie?" Camille asked me, breathing heavily. "Yes?" I answered her. "Will Chris be alright?" Her voice cracked. Without even noticing it, dark clouds have covered the blue sky and the shining sun. The whole city fell into darkness as one by one drop fell. The thunder shook through the sky as we stood there in silence. "He...He will be ok. We need to trust him ok? He will find us..." I assured Camille, I felt sadness rush through me once more. Even though Chris and I just met, I felt a strong connection to him, it's almost like I needed him in my life. "Do you know a place where we could stay until Chris finds us?" I asked her as it started to violently rain. "There is a gun shop, well, a military equipment shop not so far away, I know the owner. He will help us out." Camille answered me. "Alright, lead the way and quickly before we get sick," I told her as she started leading the way towards the shop. We kept walking straight down the street for a few minutes and on one crossroad we took a turn to the right and kept walking into the alley.
"It's here, Evie..." Camille said, slowly opening the door. "Mr Graham? Rita? Is anybody here?" Camille called out into the shop, but no answer came. "Let's go in, it's clear," I said quickly, stepping into the shop, preparing my gun in any case I needed to shoot. "How do you know the owner?" I asked Camille. "Oh, yea, Rita is my best friend and Mr Graham is her father, a very nice guy," Camille answered me, smiling sweetly at me. "Stay there where you are and don't you f*****g move!!!" I heard a voice behind me and something cold press onto the back of my head. "EVIE!!!" Camille shouted out in fear. "S-Sir, please lower your gun, we are just seeking shelter," I said slowly, lifting my hands above my head. "What the f**k are you doing here?!" The man kept shouting at us. I felt anxiety quickly build-up inside me, my legs started shaking and I started feeling very dizzy. "S-Sir, please. W-We are... just like you, s-some survivors..." I managed to say before I lost my balance and fell to the cold ground. I could hear Camille scream before the darkness took me in once again. My body was limp on the ground. It felt like I could hear what they are talking about, but I could only make out some words. "C-Chris..." I mumbled out. Soon enough I felt hands wrap around my body and slowly sat me up and pressed me towards him. "I got you now...Don't worry..." I heard Chris say lowly to me and pecked my head. His warmth spread through my whole body, making me feel warm and so much better.
Slowly, I started waking up. Feeling someone holding me from behind me. I opened my eyes and slowly looked behind me. It was Chris, sleeping peacefully next to me, holding me tightly to his body. As I got a closer look at him, I noticed that he had a lot of bruises and cuts on his body. "C-Chris?" I whispered, slowly turning my body to him, placing my hand on his cheek and gently rubbing it, giving him a small peck. He mumbled as he held me even tighter. His face turned into fearful, his eyebrows got furrowed to each other as his breathing got faster. His body slowly started trembling. "Chris. Wake up" I called out to him, gently shaking him and hoping it would wake him up. "N-No...Don't hurt....her..." Chris mumbled as a tear escaped his eye. "NO!!" Chris screamed out as he quickly sat up, breathing heavily, his whole body shaking. "Chris, calm down. I'm here..." I quickly hugged him. I felt his arms sneak around my waist, hugging me tightly, his sweat started to seep into my t-shirt. Chris let out a few sobs. "Shhh, everything is alright...we are safe don't worry," I whispered into his ear, gently stroking the back of his head. "I'm sorry, Evie," Chris whispered weakly into my chest. "There is nothing you need to be sorry for..." I whispered again, holding him tighter to me. Chris slowly pulled away from me, looking deep into my eyes. "I dreamt that you and Camille got caught by the Gravetaur, the monster that nearly squeezed you to death and the one I fought now, I saw how he ripped you both apart while I stood there helplessly," Chris said, leaning into my neck, giving me soft pecks on it. The door suddenly opened up, revealing Camille coming in with Mr Graham and some food. "Oh, you both are awake." Mr Graham said, his face was written with regret. "Here is some food and water, some extra supplies. S-so please eat something and then come out, there are some things we need to discuss." Mr Graham said. Camille smiled at us and quickly came closer, placing the food on the bed and quickly left the room along with the old man.
I took the plate closer to us, placing one on Chris's lap and one on mine. I picked up a cherry tomato and lifted it to Chris's lips. "Come on, you gotta eat something. This is a one time chance." I giggled and Chris took a bite of the cherry tomato. "Thank you, Evie." Chris sighed as he started eating.
