Andrew hasn’t heard from Sonia in days and felt that she should have decided by now. He didn’t want to be the one to call her but he hasn’t seen her either and he misses her so much. It was tough not calling or going by but he wanted her to make this decision on her own without feeling pressured. He pushed himself more and worked himself harder for the last week trying to keep his mind on work and it worked to some degree but now it was beginning to take its toll he wants Sonia to say yes and they can do this thing right away.
Smiling, he left with Mr. Springfield and Sammi for the site. Sonia will have to wait for now.
While showing Bill Springfield the progress of what was accomplished with the building, Andrew’s thoughts kept wandering to Sonia. Something was not right. He could feel it. Once he finishes the tour with Bill, he was going to call her.
An hour passed, and Sonia hasn’t heard anything from Andrew, she figures he might be busy with the people he was working for but she knows he would have called by now if he got the message.
She decided to call again. Jan gave her the run-around and Sonia became frustrated. She concluded that Jan didn’t give Andrew her message. Sonia decided to call Andrew’s cell phone, and as she placed the phone in the cradle it rang. “Hello!” She said she was stressed out and reluctant.
“Hey there . . .” He said not knowing what to expect.
“Andrew?” She asked with relief. It was so good hearing his voice.
“Sonia! What’s the matter?” He knew by her tone of voice that something was very wrong.
“I called; Jan told me you were in a meeting. Didn’t you get my message; she told me she would let you know I called. I did.”
“Sonia calm down. I guess she forgot. I was in a very important meeting.” He wanted to calm her as quickly as possible.
Sonia heard the concern in her voice and relaxed. “Andrew I... I need to speak to you later once you get home.” Sonia tried not to sound scared or anxious but the events of the day have taken a toll on her.
“Is anything wrong?” He too became anxious and wanted to know what was going on with her.
“No, it’s just... I just... I’ll tell you when you get home.”
Okay, now she was making him nervous, he was ready to hang up and go home just to find out what was on her mind. He’s never heard Sonia like this, so out of sorts. He didn’t mean to put pressure on her like this. “I’ll be there shortly.”
“No, it can wait until tonight.”
“No! I’m leaving now; we can have lunch and catch up. Okay.”
“Okay.” Pausing for what seemed like hours, neither wanting to hang up. “Later.” She said before she disconnected.
Sonia sat in the den nervously wringing her hand while Rita was moving around her setting the table for lunch. Her hands were sweating, her body shaking, then she got up and began to pace.
“Sonia what’s wrong, why are you pacing like that?”
“Aunt Rita I have some very hard decisions to make and I don’t know if I’m making the right ones.”
“Sonia I’ve always told you to stop analyzing things and don’t worry about the problems that will come. We all have them even if what we want is good for us. To get it you must go through some problems and to keep it you will go through more problems. So there, whatever it is you’ll do fine.”
“Great, Aunt Rita, just great.” Sonia didn’t know that making such a decision would cause such a reaction. If you do this there’s no going back, no do over, no second chances. This is for keeps so you’d better make sure that Andrew is whom you want to be with. She told herself then began to think about other people’s situations. Okay so, most people get married again or sleep around on their spouse but that’s not who she is and she does not want to hurt Andrew in any way.
It all seemed so clear when she was upset or having the dream about losing Andrew but now that she called him and he was on the way home, she didn’t know if she should.
Her Aunt asked again if she was okay. Sonia said yes but kept on pacing. Once Rita left the room Sonia asked herself, why would Andrew want to tie himself down to her and a baby? What is he getting out of all of this? She just didn’t see any man wanting to be tied down like this and with a baby on the way.
She wondered what it would be like with him but she never thought it would happen and now, she’s about to become his wife. Wow, even that sounds strange.
The phone rang Rita answered it; she walked into the den and told Sonia that her mother was on the phone and wanted to talk to her. “Not now Aunt Rita I can’t deal with her now.”
This was too much, maybe she should just leave and find somewhere else to live, start over fresh and make sure no man gets anywhere close to her again. But Andrew meant a lot to her and she so wanted to test those waters if but just once. No, she would stay and see where this leads them.
Andrew got off his cell phone and wondered what reason Jan would give him for not letting him know that Sonia called. He can’t understand why she would not tell him after he gave her instructions to do so. She can't be jealous of Sonia, could she? He can’t worry about that right now he has to get home to Sonia and find out what happened today. He knows something did.
Bill was waiting for Andrew to finish on the phone. Whatever it was seemed important and he wanted to know what was going on. Mr. Harding told him to keep an eye on Andrew for him but he didn’t know why.
“Bill I have to cut this short, some things come up and I have to go. If you want you can wrap this up with Sammi and we’ll be in touch.”
“Well I wanted to hear from you where you guys were with the project but... let me call Mr. Harding and see what he wants’ to do?”
Bill made his call and Mr. Harding decided to invite Andrew out to dinner tonight just to feel him out.
“Mr. Harding wants to know if you could meet him for dinner tonight at his hotel.”
“Ah, sure just let me handle this business and I’ll be there say around 7 pm.”
“Sure that would be fine.” Extending his hand, Bill said. “Until tonight then . . .”
“Yes until tonight.” Andrew turned to Sammi and said. “Call me later I have to go, now.”
“Okay, boss.” She didn’t know what was going on but he better fill her in soon. He’s worrying her; he’s not been himself lately. She wondered if it was the lady friend he’s been seeing.
Once Andrew got home he let himself into Sonia’s place. Rita was finishing up and they talked for a while. She seemed concerned and said. “Andrew talk to Sonia, and see if you can get her to stop worrying.”
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“She’ll tell you, but right now she’s in the den pacing like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.”
“Great Rita I’ll take care of it.” Andrew walked Rita to her car and then headed back inside. He stood at the door of the den watching Sonia pace, with long worry lines on her face. He didn’t mean to upset her like this. Then he said. “Hey there . . .”
Sonia stopped and looked up, then said. “Hey” She then walks in the direction of the door as if to leave. As she was walking past him to go to the kitchen, he stops her.
Andrew reached out and gently took her arm. “Wait! Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine.”
He didn't believe her. “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.” She said not looking at him.
“Then look at me and say it.”
Sonia looked into Andrew’s face and melted, he had such a look of love on his face and she didn’t know how to handle knowing it. “I’m sure.” She smiled.
“Good, now let’s eat.”
They sat down and Andrew mentioned how much he missed her. He noticed how she became nervous and changed the subject. Andrew began to recap his week with her telling her some of the funny things that happened and at the same time, he reached out and took her left hand in his and held it while he talked. Once he felt her relax he asked. “So, are you going to tell me what happened today?”
Sonia hadn’t realized that they were holding hands until now. And she loved the closeness and comfort it brought. “Well, my mother called.”
“When . . .?” Now he knew why she was upset and pacing.
“This morning . . . ."
“How did she find you?” Andrew asked, lacing his fingers through hers and beginning to massage her palm with his thumb.
It was a sensual feeling to Sonia and she didn’t want him to stop. “Well, I met this man on the beach this week.”
Andrew stopped everything he was doing and just looked at her. She met a man, is this, the news she wants him to know, that someone else took his place?
Sonia looked up at him and saw instant anger. “Andrew!”
“Go ahead I’m listening.”
“Well he and I began to talk for the next couple of days, it was a distraction, Okay! Anyway, it seems he was sent to find me by my mother.”
Andrew relaxed and began to massage her hand again. “So he was the PI your mother sent”
“You knew about that?”
“Yes, Rita and I speak often.”
“Really . . .!”
“Don’t be upset, we care about you and the baby. You’re lucky we didn’t involve Sandy.”
“Would you do that?”
“No, I have it under control...”
“Andrew.” She said not letting him continue.
“Yes.”
“I want to marry you.”
Andrew stopped and looked at her. “You do?”
“Yes, you’re right; if we’re married my family won’t be able to say anything, so yes.”
Andrew smiled, but then it dawned on him that he was having with JA Harding tonight. Not good, he scolded himself, he has to tell Sonia about his work with her dad and soon. Andrew didn’t want their marriage to start on the wrong foot. “So how do we do this? You know, we both need witnesses.”
“I could get Jon, my friend, and publicist to stand up for me.”
“Okay and I can get Sammi.”
“Great, now what . . .?”
“Well, all I want you to do is get a nice dress to wear and leave everything to me. I’ll check out some places and let you know. How’s next Saturday.”
“Saturday . . .? Ah, yes, I guess.”
“What are you going to tell Sandy when she gets home?”
“I don’t know, I think I’ll hold off for a while.”
“Okay, and how do you want to handle everyone else?”
“I don’t want to announce it just yet. Let me get used to it first.”
“Okay, but we don’t have to let anyone know if you don’t want them to. It’s up to you. Anyway, I have to get back to work, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Why tomorrow?”
“Oh, I’m having dinner with the boss.”
“You’re the... Oh.” It dawned on her just what he was speaking about.
Andrew pulled her to him and kissed her briefly then left.
Sonia felt peace comes over her and she knew she made the right decision. Now, what else is there? She began to recall wedding stories she saw. Maybe they could have dinner for the four of them before Saturday and then a celebration afterward. Then it dawned on her that Josephine was pushing her to do the baby's records, and forms at the hospital before too late, maybe she should do that now and go see Jon at the same time.
Then she would check out a ring for Andrew, something similar to the ring he bought her, but she didn’t know his size.
When Sonia got to town she stopped at the jewelry store and showed the clerk her ring. It so happened that it was the same store where Andrew purchased her ring and the clerk remembers him and gave Sonia what he thought would be Andrew’s size as the men’s ring.
Okay, she had the ring, now to find something to wear. At that moment she wished that Sandy were here now. Sonia’s not good with picking out things for herself but she would have to do it. She began to think about Andrew's taste and explained to the clerk what she was looking for. Sonia ended up with a very sexy white, simple, yet provocative dress for her wedding. She put the dress in her car because she didn’t want Josephine to ask her too many questions.
Sonia went straight to records on the 6th floor. If Andrew were going to be her husband it’s only fair that his name goes on the baby’s birth certificate, she wouldn’t tell him until later though. It would be her gift to him. Sonia has always sensed that Andrew wanted children.
Josephine had just come upstairs to check on some of her other patient’s records for their babies when she happened to see Sonia leaving the office. “Sonia? Why are you here? You didn’t tell me you were coming by.”
“Oh hi Josephine, I was just in town and decided to do those records you’ve been bugging me about.”
“Not bugging you Sonia, I just feel it’s better that you do them before you go into labor. So you did them finally.”
“Yes, I just finished.”
“Good so are you nervous?”
Sonia stopped and looked at Josephine. “Nervous? Nervous about what . . .?”
“The baby silly, what’s gotten into you lately? Is everything okay with you and Andrew?”
“Yes, why do you ask?”
“Sonia, you alright, do you want to come to my office and let me look you over.”
“No Josie I’m fine really.” Sonia thought that Josie knew about her marrying Andrew but no. “I have to go see Jon, but I’ll be in on Wednesday as planned.”
“Okay, if you’re sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure.” With that, Sonia walked away and slowly let out a breath. Okay, girl, you have to go easy, everybody does not know about you and Andrew so do not give them any reason to wonder. Sonia got on the elevator and calmed herself.
As Sonia was walking over to Jon’s place she wondered how to break the news to him. She wasn’t ready for the fallout if this marriage doesn't work. Was she ready for things to change in her life? She said yes so, she better be ready. She could handle it, couldn’t she? She would have to do way better than how she just handled Josie. Jon is no different, he will pick up that something was going on. Nope, she turned around headed to her car, and went home.
