Chapter 1: Dreams

1791 Words
*Lilith*   This was the third time this week that I had had the same dream, it always ended the same way and as curious as I was to see more, I was also scared, I didn't know why but there was just something about it that frightened me. "Lilith! are you still dreaming?" my best friend Cathy shook me to get me out of my thoughts "sorry, sorry I'm awake" I said as I started getting out of bed. Cathy and I have been friends since middle school and we were really close, she had already turned 19 this year; she lived by herself and asked me to move in with her, it was always our plan to live together, so, I accepted right away.         I moved in with her right after we graduated high school. I had to wait for school to end since I'm still 17 though. My birthday is coming up next month at the end of August and I couldn't wait. I would officially be an adult and that would mean I will finally get my aunt off my back. She took me in when I was 7 because my parents passed away and she wasn't too happy about it. She was verbally and sometimes physically abusive, nothing too extreme, but I hated living with her. I was happy to be out of that house when I was finally able to.     I don't remember much about my parents, and my aunt didn't like talking about them at all. I think she hated them or something because whenever I would ask, she got mad and slapped me. She was all too happy when I told her I would be moving out; she was forced to check on me once in a while though because I was still her responsibility since I wasn't 18 yet. I couldn’t wait till she was completely out of my life, I just wanted to get rid of her already.      "Better start getting ready if you want to make it to work on time" Cathy said as she exited my room. I worked at a little dentist office, mostly organizing papers and scheduling appointments. it was nice and I liked it. Cathy smiled at me as she left, she was more like a sister to me and people would sometimes ask us if we were, we looked nothing alike though. I was tall with a height of 5'7" with tan skin, curvy with an hourglass figure, long brown wavy hair, and brown eyes. She on the other hand was incredibly beautiful, with her native heritage she had darker skin with long straight black hair, curvier but fit and came to a height of 5'4."     I took a quick shower and put on some casual clothes, put some eyeliner on and put my hair up in a ponytail. I looked at myself in the mirror, satisfied with how I looked I ran downstairs. Cathy was in the kitchen finishing up some toast and eggs for us, when she finished, she sat down at the table. I sat right across from her and started eating.      "So, same dream again?" Cathy asked as she took a sip from her coffee. "Yeah that dream seems to be happening more frequently" "maybe it’s some sort of message, you should go see a witch or something" she said looking at me eagerly for my response. "I'm not so sure that's a good idea-" Cathy cut me off "oh come on, you've been having the same dream for weeks now, without any signs of stopping. Not to mention you started seeing shadows again! You need answers and I know a witch that can help you." "How do you know I've been seeing shadows again?" I asked concerned. "we've been friends for years; we're connected to each other I can feel when you're scared. And I can see when you tense up and stare at empty spaces." I just stared at her quietly not saying anything, she was right, I just didn’t want to admit it "oh and I'm not taking no for an answer this time" she added with a firm tone. "Fine" I sighed defeated "but it'll have to wait till I get off work" she smiled at me, got up and left the house in a hurry, not even saying bye, or where she was going, but she did that a lot, it was just the way she was.     Work seemed to go by faster than usual today, which was a good thing because I wasn't feeling it after the conversation from this morning. I just wanted to go home and have a few drinks; I should still have a bottle of whiskey hidden from last time Cathy and I threw a party at the house. Ding! I checked my phone to see a message from Cathy -Meet me at the Tree Café and Bar when you get off- Right I forgot we were meeting with a witch "ugh" I sighed out loud as I sent her a text back -Sounds good-, Then I went back to work.       The Tree Café and Bar was at the very end of town with not much of anything else around it or close by. it was built into an actual tree, a giant tree to be exact, it had an incredibly old feeling to it, familiar as well. Herbs of every kind hung from every wall giving the place an odd but sweet smell. The coffee there was amazing, and the best part about it was the bar served to minors as long as you were 16 and up that is.     After I clocked out around 5:30, I got into my white Subaru outback and drove about 30 minutes until I reached the tree a little bit outside of town. There were no other vehicles there except for Cathy's blue Toyota corolla. As soon as I stepped out of the car I got hit with a hint of sage. Sage was usually used to ward off bad spirits or bad energy, but it could also be used for other stuff, I knew this place was owned by a witch, but I didn’t know why she used all of these stuff for, I also had never seen her before.       I walked in through the double doors, the place was filled with empty tables and chairs, only the barista was there cleaning some glasses unaware that I had arrived. I walked over towards the bar "hey Jack." Jack was a tall handsome guy probably in his mid-twenties. He had a tight shirt that outlined his six pack, and with his muscular build his biceps stuck out more. He was tan with short black hair, dark eyebrows that made his black eyes pop out. What stood out the most was his super bright smile. "Hey Lilith, haven't seen you around in a while" he said as he took some headphones out of his ears. "I know, I haven't felt so good lately, just been really tired" "well that's too bad, I'm glad to see you out and about though" he said while handing me a jack and coke. I took the drink with a big smile and took a big sip from the glass; this was my favorite drink; he knew me so well. "Thanks" I said "no problem, they're waiting for you in the back, better not keep them waiting" he signaled to a beaded doorway.      I waved at him as I walked through the beads hanging from the top of the entrance, there was an area that looked like a waiting space with a circled couch right in the middle. Towards the far wall there was a wide spiraled staircase that led to the top. As I was walking up, I thought to myself how I've never been on this side of the tree before. I was in awe; it was like a house built into it. When I got upstairs Cathy was waiting for me on a couch looking through her phone. "Hey" she looked up and smiled "finally, what took you so long?" she asked while standing up "I needed a drink" I raised my cup at her, she snatched it with an evil smile and downed the rest of my drink. “Hey! That was mine” She shrugged her shoulders and started walking into a room to the right of the stairs while signaling me to follow.     When we walked in, it was dark, it took a few seconds for my eyesight to adjust, I felt my eyes lit up as I looked around the room. The walls seemed dark and covered in herbs just like down in the café/ bar, there seemed to be blue and purple fireflies flying around the room. In the middle there was a small wooden table with cushions and pillows all around it, decorated in black. As I was looking at the floor, I noticed there were symbols drawn everywhere, but I wouldn't know what they meant or what they were for. Just across from us was a girl sitting down staring at us. She seemed to be about our age, pale looking, but beautiful either way; She had long black hair cascading down to the floor as she was sitting down crossed legged on one of the pillows. She had striking royal blue eyes that seemed to pierce your soul as she locked eyes with you.         "Sit, please" she said with a small but sweet voice gesturing for us to take a seat. I sat down across from her while Cathy sat to my left. "I understand that you're here to learn more about the dreams that you've been having?" "that's right" I said "but they're not dreams, it's just one dream that I keep having repeatedly" I told her, and she nodded. "Also, while I'm here I thought you could also tell me about some shadows that I've been seeing?"      She curiously looked at me before responding "of course" she finally said "It's rare for a human to be able to see supernatural things, but that just means that you might be of supernatural decent. We would have to see if you have magic within you and unlock it, if that's ok with you?" I looked at her a little confused and zoned out until I felt a tap on my shoulder, I looked over at Cathy she was gesturing for me to give an answer. "Umm yeah, yeah that's fine" I said not sounding too sure about it. "Perfect" the witch said calmly as she extended both her hands towards me "my name Is Raven, by the way" she smiled at me.
