LUCILLE'S POV The silver chains finally clicked away from my body, and a wave of relief surged through me as I felt Sia, my wolf, whine in my head. She turned to glared coldly at the guard who had injected us and, at the same time, brought me here. “I would have ended your damn life with my claws,” I mumbled, my voice eerily calm for someone who was pissed at him. Raising his hands in surrender, he shifted backwards, ignoring me. Kissing my teeth, I walked quietly away from the cell, with my boots making loud sounds as I left the room. At the exit of the pack cell, I sighted Lachlan giving out commands to his guards. Upon noticing my presence, he stopped talking and walked towards me, his gaze cold as ice, making a shiver run down my spine involuntarily. Casting a glance at his guard, he tightened his jaw before pointing in a direction. “Escort her in that direction. It's a faster route to Moonclaw pack,” He directed, his voice stern and distant. “Yes, your highness.” His guards replied as they bowed. Lachlan stepped a bit closer to me, his eyes distant as he exuded a dominating aura. With a cold gaze, he pointed his finger at me in warning. “Keep note of our deal. Any slight leak of information might not end well for you.” “This also applies to you. I won't hesitate to dig my claws in your heart if you play me for a fool again,” I said, returning his energy. Not only him know how to give orders, I am an alpha too! Chuckling at my reaction, he pocketed his arms and shoved his head forward for me to get going. Stamping my foot deliberately on the grass, I began moving, gritting my teeth. The moon tonight was full and radiated in the dark sky, including the woods. Shapeshifting into my wolf form, I raced down to where I had parked my car, tracing the way with my sense of smell. After getting to my car, I zoomed off to my pack and in less than three hours, I arrived at Moonclaw’s pack and went straight to the pack house to see my uncle. I was ushered in by the pack maids who told me where he was. Strolling into the garden, I met him, surrounded by two young ladies who were just newly transformed wolves. A look of disgust settled on my face as I shook my head. This was the only part of my uncle I didn’t like. Frolicking with women. Clenching my fist, I walked briskly to disrupt whatever was happening between them. Seeing my stern face, they shuddered in fear and stood erect, honoring my presence. Uncle turned to stare at me, a hint of surprise in his eyes at my presence. “You're back?” He uttered, his voice filled with surprise as he pasted a smile on his face. I let out a loud scoff and rolled my eyes at his words. “I see you were busy with them.” With a wave of my hand, I motioned for them to leave me. Bowing to my uncle, they scurried out of sight in embarrassment. “So, how were your findings? Did you get to see The Alpha of Silver Crest pack?” Uncle asked, rubbing his round belly as he adjusted the Alpha cloak on his shoulders. My eyes scanned the royal emblem in sadness as I recalled Father on the cloak, doing his Alpha duties. The zeal to find the perpetrators burned in my heart and I shifted my gaze away from the cloak. Uncle was asking about my findings at Silver Crest pack. Should I confide in him about my recent discovery? Lachlan's last words rang in my ear, and I bit my lips, crossing my fingers as I replied, “Indeed, the Arms were from the Silver crest pack. But I couldn't confront Alpha Lachlan about it.” “That man won't speak; he knows something about your Father's death.” Uncle retorted, clearing his throat. “But anyway, we've made progress, and soon we will get to the root of everything.” “Yes, uncle,” I replied, fixing my gaze on the fireflies in the garden. “Lest I forget,” I began, getting his attention. “I would like to return back to the pack house.” “What?” Uncle questioned, his eyes wide with surprise. Scrunching his nose in disapproval, he continued. “I mean, are you sure you want to come back?” “Yes.” I nodded. “I want to be involved in the pack's politics. At least I should know some things before officially ascending the Throne.” “Are you sure you're ready to take a Role in pack politics? I mean, being a pack enforcer is good enough.” He said, trying to dissuade me. “Why do you suddenly want to be involved?” “Huh?” Totally caught off guard by his questions, I tightened my lips. Lachlan had asked me to participate in the pack's politics to get quicker information concerning my Father's death. Leaning back in the chair, I shrugged my shoulders as I replied. “ I'm not getting any younger. I guess it's time I prepare to take over,” I replied, a sinister smile playing on my lips. ********** The next morning… I tossed and turned on my bed as flashes of my Dad's plea for his innocence played in my subconscious. The masked man I had seen at the judgment hall, who left sneakily after hearing my father's punishment, settled in my subconscious mind, and before I knew what was happening, a sword swiped across my Father, and his head rolled to my feet. “No!” I screamed in agony, waking up from my sleep as I sat up on the bed, sweating profusely. My breath was ragged and I tried to wipe my forehead. Why do I keep dreaming of that particular scene? Who was the masked man, and what exactly does he have to do with my Father? I placed a hand on my chest, trying to control my racing heart. The dreams kept coming, with the same scene and my father's head rolling to my feet. The strangest part of the dream was that Father was killed in the cell, not by beheading but by a sword piercing his chest. Suddenly, my phone blared, jolting me out of my thoughts. Scrambling to get it, I placed the phone on my ear as I waited for the receiver to speak. “Hello?” “Help! Help! Please…arrghhh….” It was the voice of a man in pain, and then the line got disconnected. I instinctively stood up and I tried calling the number countless times, but, the line was out of reach. Cross-checking the number, I realized the number wasn't our pack's line. Clearly, something was up. Creasing my brows quizzically, I dashed into the bathroom, took my bath, and dressed up. Just as I was about to head to the kitchen to make breakfast, a call came in again. This time it was from my colleague. “Where the heck are you, Lu? The pack hospital has been attacked!” “What?” My eyes bulged in surprise. “Why would anyone be so bold enough to attack the Pack Hospital?” “I don't know, you need to come right now. It's really bad here.” My colleagues sighed in frustration before ending the call. Picking up my patrol cap, I raced out of the house and drove towards the pack hospital. My mind kept on pondering who could have raised an attack on the pack hospital? Could it also be the same person who had been raising attacks on the pack lately? I got to the pack hospital in less than thirty minutes, and indeed, the place was packed with the media personnel's Gammas, and pack detectives as they snapped evidence of the crime scene. The hospital looked like it had been looted; there were holes due to the gunshots and windows smashed into shards. The stench of blood wafted through my nostrils, and I scrunched my nose in disgust, allowing every bit of anger I felt. Who could have done this in a place where lives were supposed to be saved? I watched as patients were wheeled to another ambulance to be taken to a subsidiary hospital in the pack. Those who didn't survive the attack were wrapped in a body bag and sent to the pack morgue for more examination. “Finally, lu. Come over here.” Beatrice, the colleague who had called, motioned for me to come over and I jogged towards her, my mind clearly disturbed. “How did this happen? Why would anyone attack the Pack Hospital?” I questioned, tightening my jaw in anger. “Apparently, a patient is missing from the ward,” Beatrice mumbled, passing me an attendance book. “Who?” I questioned, my heart racing faster in my chest. “A witness who was supposed to defend Alpha Darius case.” “There is someone who knew something about my Father's case?” I questioned, my eyes widening in surprise and shock.
