Lucille's POV
The shock on my face slowly faded and was replaced by anger as I narrowed my eyes at him. I was angry at myself and also at the man before me.
How could I have not gotten an inkling of who he was, damn it!
I was a fool. A bigger fool because I was a damn pack enforcer, my instincts never deceived me, but this… How could I not have seen that he was the enemy?
How could I have let him deceive me?
A thought suddenly crossed my mind, and I gritted my teeth as the rage brewed in me.
Did he approach me on purpose? Did he do this to finish off his task by killing me?
Because why the heck would he come to the pack after killing my Father!
These thoughts made me snarl in rage.”How could you, murderer!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, struggling to see myself free from the clutches of the silver chain. The more I wriggled my hands, the more the silver pierced deeper into my flesh, rendering me weaker.
“Arghh!” I groaned in frustration as I kissed my teeth.
“It’s either you calm down or let the silver wear you out. It’s your choice.” The man said coldly, folding his arms over his chest. A wave of irritation washed over me as I stared at him in disdain.
“Damn you, murderer!” I spat out, jerking slightly as a sting from the silver sent another wave of pain through my body.
“If you keep struggling, you might end up hurting yourself.” He said, his voice cold and demeaning.
“Hurting?” I let out a scoff as I fumed, breathing heavily. “This is no way less than me giving you my body! You f*****g murderer and thief!” I said in rage as I glared at him.
“Look, I regret what happened between us as much as you do, but what I don't understand is why you keep calling me a murderer and a thief.” He asked calmly but his gaze was anything but calm.
“You are a liar! I hate you, so damn much!” I cursed, spitting on the floor. “How dare you act like you don’t know what you did, you murderer. People like you are supposed to be scraped out of your skin and fed to the vultures!” I screamed, stamping my foot violently on the floor.
I needed to get out of these clutches; I needed to face this murderer and strangle him with my bare hands. What exactly did Father do to him to warrant such brutality?
I stared at the man, who looked rather shocked, as I continued raging and lashing at him. There was no flicker of anger in his eyes, and that got me infuriated.
He wasn't feeling remorse for what he did!
“You need to calm down, lu…. Take a deep breath, and let's handle this sensibly.” I mumbled to myself as I tried to calm down.
He thinks he's smart by acting as if he's ignorant. I'm going to show him how good I am in this game.
But first, I needed to get out of here quickly so I could report to Uncle and have his head on a stake!
Sighing exasperatedly, I hung my head low as I fumed, trying to control my rage.
He stepped closer, slamming his fist loudly on the table. “Are you done lashing out? Can you now speak responsibly?” He mumbled; his voice low yet commanding.
I slowly lifted my gaze to glare at him, and just before I could speak, my eyes fell on my necklace, and I scouted closer, trying to reach for it, but he dragged the necklace back, taking a few steps backward.
“Give me back my necklace, you thief!” I barked, gritting my teeth at him as I fisted my hands.
“Is it really yours or was it stolen?” He asked, his brows creasing in suspicion.
What? Stolen?
“You really do think everyone is a petty thief like you, don't you?" I spat out in disgust. "Why the hell would I steal what has always been mine?!” I barked at him, my fury controlling me. My eyes darkened in irritation as I tried to unleash my wolf but the more I tried to transform, the more I felt her drifting far away from me.
Damn this silver chain.
A tint of shock flickered in Lachlan’s eyes, but he quickly masked it with a stern face. Narrowing his eyes, he stroked his beard slowly.
“Does that mean you are Alpha Darius' daughter?” He asked, his cold gaze shifting into something softer.
On seeing I wasn't giving him interested in giving him any response, he walked to the edge of the room, paced around for a bit before shoving his hands into his pocket to fish out something.
He brought out a folded brown paper resembling an Envelope and stared at it intensely before walking back to me.
Squatting to my level, he unfolded the paper and brought out a picture. He stared at the picture for a while before focusing it on my sight.
“Isn't this your Father?” He mumbled, pointing at a Middle-aged man resting his hands on a kid's shoulder as they smiled happily.
My eyes widened in surprise as I stared at the picture. This… it was a replica of my father, and the kid was a younger version of the man before me
Snatching the picture from him, I stared at it. Disbelief. “How did you get this picture?” Turning the picture over, I saw the signature scribbled on it.
It was my Father's. But why was Father with him, and why was he smiling in that picture? Nothing made any sense and it fueled my anger.
“How the heck did you get all these!” I mumbled, gripping the edge of the picture hard. Lachlan ignored and slowly brought out a letter from the Envelope and more pictures. With a short glance at me, he placed them on my lap.
Scanning through the pictures in disbelief, I picked up the letter, and I discovered it was a letter from my Father to him. Although I couldn't understand the code written in it, I know it was a Military way of communicating with their comrades.
At the end of the letter was my Father's Alpha stamp.
A chill settled within me as I glared at him. “Did you forge this? Was that the reason you came to my pack? Because you knew a day like this would come, you had to steal the Alpha's stamp. What exactly haven't you stolen!”
With a loud sigh, he ran his fingers through his hair and rose to his feet. “Are you really blind, or do you just choose to do this purpose? Can't you see clearly that I am in those pictures?” Lachlan questioned.
“I f*****g see them! I just want to know the heck you got them.” I mumbled, fixing my gaze at him.
Lachlan shut his eyes as he tried to control himself before shifting a chair closer to me. Taking his seat, he cleared his throat.
“Your Father and I have known each other for so long. He took me as his own son after the war that broke out in the pack. As a young alpha with no parents or relatives, I was lost. But your Father found me. We fought the war together as comrades. He trained me to be what I am today,” He explained, pausing to get a reaction from me.
“Then you had to betray him back by killing him?” I questioned, creasing my brows.
“No, I didn't kill him!” He said, half yelling. “Your Father was there when I started Silver's group of arm companies. He helped me build it, and he's one of the biggest shareholders even at his death.” He continued.
“Calamity began when I was framed for something I didn't do, your Father tried his best to sort it out, and that's what this letter was about.” He mumbled, pointing to the letter I had read.
“Then we got some news about a sudden war attack. We weren't prepared; it was so brutal, and we got injured. This paved the way for someone to invade my company and steal weapons and arms and use them against us.” He paused, catching his breath.
I stared at him with wide eyes, completely speechless.
I remembered vividly this scene, Father had come home injured, and while explaining, he made mention of a young man he was helping. But he told me he would speak about him later.
“Your Father talked about you all the time, but always said the time wasn't right for us to meet.” He concluded, squeezing the brown paper tightly.
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. With a sigh, I relaxed back in the chair and let my gaze travel through him. His claims were undeniably true something I hated to admit.
But what if… just what if all of these are part of his plans? What if I am just a pawn in his game?
With a light tap on the table, he brought me out of my reverie and fixed his cold gaze on me. “So, what do you say about working together to find out the truth?” He said, his deep voice stirring something in me.
