It seemed like it passed only a few minutes since she was on the train, but when Anna woke up and looked thought the window once again, she saw that it was already dark outside.
The room she's just woken up in wasn't moving, which meant that she was already in the North village. That room was huge with a lot of hospital beds, windows and pillars, but just like the one before, it was empty. Anna felt a lot better, her wounds were healing, and her strength was slowly coming back to her. At least she managed to get out of the bed, which was an improvement compared to that morning.
She approached the window to inspect her surrounding better, and event thought she couldn't see much because of the darkness outside, it seemed like the building was partly surrounded by woods.
On the other side the window could be used as a mirror, and for the first time since the accident, she carefully observed her reflection. Her light brown wavy messy hair was covering parts of her chicks, and highlights that were brighter than the rest of the hair, were still eye-catching, almost blonde. She had dark circles, and her full lips were dry and chapped. Only her gray eyes looked as usual, untouched.
Anna slowly pressed covered parts of her hands, which were still burning, and then she reached for the sign on her upper back, the symbol of her flux: water. She remembered that that part of her body hearted the most when she was attacked. Anna also noticed that she wasn't wearing the same clothes that she was wearing when the fire started, but a white hospital gown down to her knees. At least they left her boots near the bed, which gave her special joy. She put them on, took one more look at the room, and then reached for the exit. I have to get out of here somehow, she thought, as she was walking out.
Anna found herself wandering down the hallway, which was poorly light by torches, and the walls were decorated with weapons and ornaments that seemed ancient but preserved. She tried to walk as silently as possible, so she does not attract attention to herself. Leaving without any words or explanation was ungrateful, but there was one thought that she couldn't get out of her head. Somebody tried to kill her, and she needed to find out who and why, yet she can't do that miles away from the crime scene.
Anna didn't know where she headed for, and even though she passed a lot of turnings, she decided to move forward.
All of a sudden, she started hearing footsteps, which got her out of her head, and by the sound of it, Anna concluded that there were a couple of people going after her.
Since they were too close for her to run away, she used a dark part of the hallway to hide behind a pillar.
From there, Anna saw a slim, short haired girl running through the hall. Because of the short hair it might as well be a guy, Anna thought. When the girl passed by without noticing her, Anna felt safe, but shortly after regretted her compulsive conclusion. Someone was standing right behind her, she could have sensed the flux that wasn't hers. She didn't know if certain someone was dangerous or not, but her natural instinct had woken up within her, so she waved her fist at the direction of the flux. The silhouette that was standing than extremely close to her blocked the punch and grabbed her hand.
Easy there, you will hurt yourself, said the mail voice behind her, trying to sound mockingly, yet he subconsciously admitted that her move was quite good for an almost burned girl.
The boy let go of her hand, then crossed over to the light side of the hallway, so only then Anna could take a good look at him. That was the guy from the train, she was almost convinced. One of two people that were standing next to the wagon door while the redhead was talking. He had longer black hair that was falling over his four head. His bony but handsome face, with emphasized cheekbones and sharp jawline, was smiling at her. Even in the dark, Anna could spot his dark blue eyes compared to his light ten. He was tall but not too tall, Anna noticed. His body was shaped nicely, yet bony as well as his face. He had belts around his chest and also one around his leg, where he was carrying his daggers. Red ribbon was tied around his upper right arm, which meant that the nature of his flux was fire. The boy crossed his arms on his chest, and with a bit of a smirk referred to her.
You know, wandering around without permission is quite inappropriate, has nobody ever told you that.
Oh yeah, you mean equally inappropriate as k********g or sinking behind someone s back, she answered to him.
She was actually mad at herself, because she wasn't able to notice him earlier. Anna felt more vulnerable than ever.
You were kidn*pped from the people that wanted to kill you, to me that sounds more than appropriate, and as for the sneaking part...
A female voice interrupt him, You found her, short haired girl with bony face was approaching them. Her big dark eyes were looking directly at Anna, analyzing her judgmentally.
Yeah, I found her, alive and well, lucky us, the boy said.
It looks like our guest loves to play hide-and-seek, she noticed. She was quite tall for a girl, and just like her comrade, she had equipment on herself. Ribbon on her arm-green, which meant the nature of her flux was earth.
Maybe we should keep her unconscious while she is staying with us, the girl continued as she was still approaching the couple.
You can try, Anna said.
The male member of the group sensed trouble since the girls were starting to bicker, so he decided to interrupt them.
Bridge, why don't you inform the others that we found her, and I will escort our guest to Wessex.
Bridget decided to accept his suggestion, as she was leaving she took one more unpleasant look at Anna, then turned around and slowly walked away from the couple, while they were still standing next to the pillar.
I hope she isn't the reflection of the appropriate behavior that you stand for, said Anna to the boy.
After you, he said, pointing to the opposite direction from where the Bridget went, It looked like he didn't want to continue arguing, smile disappeared from his face, that was now darkened.
They were walking for a while in silence, that was occasionally interrupted by some kind of direction instruction from the blue-eyed guy. There was nowhere to escape anymore, but the fact that she's going to meet the Lord of the North village, gave her hope that she's finally going to find out what happened to her. The boy broke the silence first.
You are on the grounds of the North village academy, which you probably realized by now. Our Lord is waiting for you in his office, to explain what's happening. Also, we are probably going to come across some other warriors in the hallway, so it would be nice if you don't attack them or invite them to a match of, at least not till you gain your strength back. This way, you can hardly call it a fair fight.
He sounded serious, but Anna knew, that he was using the chance to mock her, but this time she decided not to fall for his provocation, there was no use in that.
After a few minutes of walking and a couple of turns they found themselves standingin front of a massive door made of wood light by torches that were bigger than the once Anna saw in the other parts of the hallway. She hesitated for the a moment, and decided to let the boy approache first, which he did. He knocked and then waited for an answer. The male voice from the other side of the door gave them permission to come in, which the couple did.
