MARIA I tell Emad that I need some space and walk outside the house without waiting for his response. As I step out of the door, the humid wind hits me, making my jilbab cling to my front while the rest of it flies backwards. My hijab has become topsy-turvy. When I need time to think, I always prefer to be in a place that is dark and quiet. So, I walk to the park in our neighborhood that’s two minutes away. There are no signs of life and it's eerie quiet. Just the way I like it. I observe my surroundings a little. It seems more like a forest and less like a park, what with the trees and all.
