"Maria, there's something important I need to tell you." Emad says in a soft tone.
The sincerity and sadness in his eyes throws me off guard. I don't think I've ever seen him look this vulnerable.
My hands reach out to his immediately and I intertwine our fingers.
"What's the matter?" I use the same tone as his.
He gazes at me for a long time, a dark, brooding expression in his brown eyes.
"I think we should separate."
For a moment, I don't feel anything. I shoot him a quick glance, trying to read the shift in his mood. But I find nothing.
"Separate?" I ask and then point a finger towards both of us. "Like, us? Separate?"
When he nods, a sarcastic chuckle
