Lena ate half the Thai food before she even sat down properly.
She looked at Kieran sitting beside me on the bed.
Looked at me.
Looked back at Kieran.
Said nothing.
Which from Lena was basically a standing ovation.
She handed out containers and chopsticks and sat in the chair Kieran had vacated and ate like she hadn't seen food in three days.
Maybe she hadn't.
I hadn't thought to ask.
We ate mostly in silence.
The comfortable kind.
The kind that happens when people have been through enough together that they don't need to fill every gap.
At some point Kieran's phone buzzed.
He looked at it.
"My board," he said. "I need to take this."
He stepped into the bathroom and closed the door.
Lena looked at me immediately.
"Don't," I said.
