Soon it was the time scheduled for her delivery. They got a call on the intercom and it was Nurse Jane. She notified them to get ready as she was coming to join them in a few minutes. A few minutes later, she came back to their room and guided them to the spacious delivery room they had been shown earlier. As Sarah settled into the bed, a team of nurses and a doctor entered the room, each introducing themselves and explaining their roles. The doctor, Dr. Martinez, took the lead, her calm and authoritative presence immediately instilling confidence. "Sarah, Chris, we’re going to take excellent care of you both. Let’s get started with a few routine checks," Dr. Martinez said, her voice steady and reassuring. Chris held Sarah’s hand, their eyes meeting in a shared moment of anticipation and love. The journey had brought them to this point, and they knew they were in the best possible place to welcome their child into the world. As the medical team began their preparations, the rhythmic beeping of the monitors and the soft hum of the air conditioning created a background symphony that was both comforting and efficient. Chris felt a surge of gratitude for the care and attention they were receiving, knowing that Westlake Valley Medical Centre was truly one of Los Angeles' finest As the moments ticked by, and the team got fully ready, Dr. Martinez calmly explained the Cesarean Section procedure to Chris and Sarah, ensuring they understood the reasons for the decision and what to expect during the procedure. Sarah, though nervous, felt reassured by the medical team's competence and Chris’s unwavering support. At least she had been well-educated on the procedure during the last few antenatal visits. Chris donned a surgical gown, cap, and mask, following closely as his beloved wife was wheeled into the operating room; an inner room of the delivery room. The room was brightly lit, the sterile white walls contrasting with the colorful array of medical equipment. The air was cool, a necessary precaution to maintain a sterile environment. Monitors beeped softly, tracking Sarah’s vital signs, while a team of nurses and doctors prepared for the surgery with practiced precision. Dr. Martinez stood at the head of the surgical team, her confident presence a steady anchor in the flow of activity. She offered Sarah a reassuring smile before focusing on the task at hand. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Patel administered the epidural, explaining each step to Sarah and Chris to keep them informed and at ease. "You're going to feel a bit numb from the waist down, Sarah," Dr. Patel explained gently. "Let me know if you feel any discomfort at any time." Sarah nodded, gripping Chris's hand tightly as the anesthesia took effect. Chris leaned in close, his eyes conveying his love and support. "We’re almost there," he whispered, kissing her forehead. Once the anesthesia was confirmed to be working, Dr. Martinez and her team began the procedure. A sterile drape was placed in front of Sarah, shielding her view of the surgical site while allowing Chris to stay by her side, holding her hand. The atmosphere in the room was calm yet focused, the medical team communicating in low, efficient tones as they worked. Dr. Martinez made the initial incision with precise skill, the surgical lights casting a bright, clean glow over the area. The hum of the ventilation system and the occasional beep from the monitors punctuated the quiet intensity of the moment. Chris watched in awe and apprehension, his heart pounding with anticipation. "You're doing great, Sarah," Dr. Martinez said, her voice steady and soothing. "We’re making good progress." Sarah felt a sensation of pressure but no pain, her grip on Chris's hand remaining firm. The minutes stretched out, each one feeling like an eternity, until finally, Dr. Martinez announced, "We’re almost there. Get ready to meet your babies." A few more moments passed, and then, the sound they had been waiting for filled the room: the unmistakable, powerful cry of a newborn. Tears welled up in Chris’s eyes as he looked at Sarah, her face mirroring his own emotions. Dr. Martinez gently lifted their baby, a perfect little boy, and held him up for the parents to see before passing him to the waiting pediatric nurse. "Congratulations, you have two healthy baby girls!" Dr. Martinez announced, a smile breaking through her professional demeanor. "They are perfect," Sarah whispered, tears streaming down her face. Chris leaned in, kissing her and their newborn babies before the nurse took them to clean them up, his heart overflowing with happiness and relief. “Doctor, I think one of them needs to be aspirated.” The nurse called the doctor's attention and she instructed her to go ahead with the process. While Nurse Abby left with one of the babies, another nurse quickly cleaned Sarah up. As Dr. Martinez and her team rounded off the surgery, ensuring Sarah was well and stable, the new family remained in their bubble of bliss. The medical team worked efficiently and respectfully around them, cleaning up and checking vitals while giving the couple reassurance that all was well with their other baby Nd she would be fine soon. The nurse who was cleaning her up noticed trickles of blood from her surgical site, on closer inspection, the packing had soaked too! They had thought Sarah's delivery went successfully based on their checks, but unfortunately, she started bleeding at the last minute. The medical team was thrown into a frenzy as they didn't see that coming. Sarah was becoming weak at this point too. While Sarah fought for her life and Chris ran helter-skelter to do whatever he could to salvage the situation, Nurse Jane stealthily exchanged one of Sarah's babies with a prearranged dead one from another woman. Several hours later, Sarah was eventually much more stable, and they asked for their babies. This was the moment the nurse broke the news of the death of one of their babies to them. They were devastated and they found it to be unbelievable. “But my babies were healthy after birth.” Sarah queried, skepticism written all over her face. “Yes, they were ma'am. But one of them had severe Meconium Aspiration Syndrome. We tried all we could but we didn't succeed. Bear with us.” Despite the loss of one of their babies, Mr and Mrs Edwards were happy to have their new princess in their lives. They named her Ellie.
