Everyone is still still sleeping and the house is still dark. Sophia finished taking her bath and sat in front of her dressing table, she picked her cream took a portion and gently on her body and face. Staring at her reflection she said, “Sophia today is going to be filled with lots of stress and movement, but you have to face it with courage.” Sophia stood in front of her wardrobe trying to figure out what to wear. She picked a flower dress, tossed it on the bed, picked a suit and did the same until she settled for a pink short gown. “This will look good on me and suit today's outing”. She said to herself. Sophia picked a black bag to complete her dressing, she check the table over and over again and looked into her back. “Hope I am not forgetting anything,” she thought to herself. “Oh my goodness, I almost forget the most important thing” She went to her shelf, and searched through but could not find what she was looking for. “Where could it be? I thought I left it here.” One after the other Sophia removed everything on the shelf but she could not find it. Sophia felt confused, running her fingers through her hair. She sat on the bed checking the books again but found nothing. She searched everywhere opening every section of the shelf, just then she noticed something neatly packed differently from other things in the shelf. Sophia prayed in her heart as she walked closer that she finds it. She opened the file scanning through each one and there she found it. She gave a sigh of relief “For a moment I thought I lost you, she said, holding it in her hand smiling.” Sophia quickly put her certificate and school files in her hand bag. Sophia stepped out of her room, locking the door gently to prevent waking her parents and brother. “Sophia! Where are you going so early,” her mother asked with a curious look. “Mom, you scared me, I thought you were still sleeping” “I am going to find a job, I need to assist you and Father,” Sophia explained. Maria Livingston washed her hands in the running water, picked up a towel dryed her hands and walked to where Sophia stood. “My child,” she began, holding Sophia's face in her palms. “Thank you so much, we appreciate your concern and sacrifices.” “May you find a good job as you go out today. But before you go, you should take breakfast first.” “Mother I am running late, I can't wait.” Sophia explained checking her wrist watch. “Just a minute I will pack up some snacks for you” Maria dashed into the kitchen and in few minutes she came back holding a little box in her hands. “Take this and make sure to take care of yourself” “Thank you mother,” Sophia said pressing a soft kiss on Maria’s cheek. “Best of luck Sophia,” Maria wished as she hugged her daughter. “Thank you mom,” Sophia said releasing from her mom's embrace. ***** “Hello, good morning, my name is Sophia Livingston, do you need a new staff at your restaurant?” Sophia asked one of the staffs “Well, not really but I think one more staff is needed,” the staff answered. Sophia's eyes widened in excitement. “Please how can I apply?” “You will have to speak with the manager, he is over there.” The staff informed Sophia pointing in one direction. “Good morning sir, I am Sophia Livingston. I am searching for a job, do you need a new staff in your restaurant?” “Yes, do you have any qualifications?” The manager asked without looking up. Sophia quickly opened her bag and searched through, she brought out some papers and presented them to the manager. “He took a look at them and asked, Are these all you ‘ve got?” Yes sir, she replied. “I don't think you are qualified for the job.” He replied handing the papers back to Sophia. “Sir, I am very hardworking, I can do the job, just give me a chance, I will show you.” Sophia pleaded. The Manager's expression remained unreadable. He asked, “Have you ever waited tables before?” “No sir, but I learn fast, “ Sophia said quickly. I'm a hard worker and I really need this job.” There was a little silence. The manager tapped a pen against his table. “Come in tomorrow at five, you will take a trial shift” Sophia felt a huge relief. “Thank you, I won't let you down.” “The manager gave a small nod before turning away.” She exhaled, gripping her bag tighter. Sophia walked towards the bus stop, her breath visible in the cool night air. Her mind raced through the things she would be expected to do. As the bus moved through the city, Sophia scrolled through job listings on her cracked phone screen. “ Receptionist - experience required, A retail assistant, only for night shift, An office clerk - must have a degree” Everything required something she didn't have. Just then, Waitress needed hotel dining. Evening shifts. No experience required. Apply in person. Sophia sat up, jotted down the address and the exhaustion anchoring her body, she made a decision. “Tomorrow, she will go for it.” The next day, Sophia got up very early, she hurried to the bathroom to take her bath. Sophia took time to dress up. She wanted to look good. “I should apply for this hotel job, the pay might not be much but it will be worth it.” She thought to herself as she pick her bag and slung it over her shoulder. “Mom!
