Chapter Three: Good News
As soon as she got home Sophia kicked off her heels. She winced in pain as her legs ache from soleness.
The long shifts at the hotel were draining life and strength from here. As part of her trial period she has to work over time to prove her skills.
Sophia barely had the energy to change out her uniform before collapsing on to the bed.
She sighed, rubbing her head. The image of what happened at the hotel flashed in her mind.
The shattering glasses, the grunts of drunken men throwing punches, and then the moment she had jumped between them without thinking, instinctively shielding the handsome man with piercing blue eyes.
“Who was he? And why did he look at her that way?” She thought to herself.
Sophia knew she shouldn't have gotten involved, but something about him made her hesitate.
The handsome man had been cornered and outnumbered and for some reason she felt like he was someone famous
Exhaustion soon took over, before she could dwell on it any longer, Sophia drifted into a deep sleep.
After some time her mother came into her room. Sophia laid carelessly on her bed and her hair covering her face with a stressful look
Maria took the blanket, laid Sophia properly moving her legs and arms on to the bed, then covered her with a blanket
Maria left her daughter to sleep, as she was about to leave, she turned and gave Sophia one last look filled with worry, then closed the door gently.
The following morning, Sophia awoke to the sound of a familiar voice, with an aggressive knock at the door.
“Sophia! Open this door , it's me!” Venessa’s voice rang out , impatient as always.
Sophia managed to drag herself off the bed, she shuffled to the door and opened it.
Vanessa, her best friend, pushed her way inside the room with a bag of pastries and two cups of coffee.
“Sophia you look like hell,” Vanessa said, eyeing her with a smirk as she sank onto the bed.
“Thanks, I feel like hell, not only that I look like it.” Sophia muttered, grabbing one of the cups. She took a deep sip, savoring the warmth.
“You won't believe it, work has been brutal, back to back shifts, annoying customers and to top it off, I had to break up a bar fight last night.”
Vanessa's eyes widened. “Wait, what did you just say? A bar fight? You? Since when did you become a body guard?” Venessa asked with a smirk on her face.
Sophia rolled her eyes, pulling her knees close to her chest. “ I wasn't trying to be.”
This handsome guy was about to get jumped at and hit by some drunk idiots. He was outnumbered.
“ I don't even know why I stepped in. But I did.”
Venessa grinned knowingly. “Oh, wow, this sounds really interesting. Tell me was he hot?”
Sophia shook her head, but then the image of his intensed gaze, piercing blue eyes and perfectly tailored suit popped into her mind “I mean yes, he was”
“ Aha! I knew it!” Vanessa pointed a finger at her, “ you sure have a thing for this Mr. Handsome”
Sophia groaned. “ Nessa. That's not the point, come to think of it I don't even know his name, but he looked some sort of devilish.”
Vanessa raised an eyebrow. “You mean like a daredevil?”
“Something like that,” Sophia said, shaking her head.
“But enough about that. For real I'm exhausted, Nessa.”
Venessa smirked but let it go. “Fine, fine. But hey, I actually came with good news.”
Sophia raised an eyebrow. “Good news?”
“Yes!” Vanessa grinned, with a glint in her eyes.
“It's a prestigious firm owned by a powerful family”
Sophia blinked. “ And why are you telling me this Nessa?”
“Because you should apply baby girl!”
Sophia let out a dry laugh, “Are you kidding me Vanessa, I don't even have the chances”
“ I'm serious Soph,” Vanessa said, leaning in
“C’mon, you are smart, hardworking, and you just graduated from college. This could be your way out.”
Sophia sighed, rubbing her head. “But Nessa, I have no experience in whatever business this is. Okay tell me, what are my chances”
“You won't know unless you try. Vanessa shrugged. Besides, it's not just about experience. It's about confidence and savviness and you ‘ve got those”
Sophia bit on her bottom lip. She thought to herself “ The idea of leaving her exhausting and tiring job was tempting. But stepping into an unknown world of high - powered business? It's like stepping into a lion's den.”
“But what if?”
She inhaled deeply. “ I think I’ll give it a shot”
“Wow girl, you made the right decision.” Venessa whooped in excitement.
Sophia smiled softly, she was a little nervous about it but still wants to try it out.
Sophia desperately wants to help her family. Since her Father became bedridden life has been going the wrong way for them.
Anthony Livingston was set to go to work that morning. On his way, he meet with an accident that almost took his life.
He was rushed to the hospital, the doctors tried their best to save him.
After many hours of sitting outside and praying for her husband to survive. The doctor announced to Maria that her husband had gone into a comma
Maria’s legs felt weak, the doctor held her to prevent her from falling.
“Get a grip Mrs. Livingston. We can only pray that he comes out of comma soon.” The doctor encouraged.
Three months later, on one morning Sophia went to see her father at the hospital. As she sat close to him, suddenly his hands began to move.
“Doctor! Doctor!!,” Sophia called out
The doctor checked him and after he said. “Your father is awake but he will not be able to use his legs or hands, he is bedridden.”
