NAOMI POV
The room was slowly illuminated as my eyes slowly opened to my bedroom. Scanning through my wall, my eyes were hooked to the family portrait which me, my husband and Kayla were happily smiling at.
The mood of that picture was that of an unbreakable and happy family, but the contrast is the current reality. My mood became shattered as I recalled yesterday's activities and the hostile nature of my daughter towards me.
I couldn't blame her because of the trauma she's going through. But I had to make a move to resolve the past incident for a healthy relationship with my only daughter. With that resolution, I left my room and walked towards her room. Coincidentally, she came out of her room, advancing through the hallway.
"Greetings mother", Kayla greeted me, but she avoided eye contact with me.
I was deeply elated as the last time I heard those greetings was some years ago.
"Greetings Kayla dear", I responded with such enthusiasm in my voice.
"I know you didn't want any form of discussion yesterday, but please hear me out," I said with an appealing tone.
A pin-drop silence engulfed us and I looked straight at my daughter's face, but she kept her face down the whole time.
"OK, but I'll have to shower first". She broke the silence as my daughter raised her head to establish eye contact.
"Sure, the bathroom is at your disposal. "Take your bath, and I'll see you in the sitting room", I mentioned, but I felt this relief in my inner self.
She left the bathroom while I walked towards the sitting room anticipating her. Looking at the music system took me to the past where little Kayla and my husband would dance to old country songs. Since I lost my husband, I secretly vowed never to miss my daughter.
After a while, I saw Kayla walking down to the sitting room. My memory took me to visualize my sweet girl growing up into a gorgeous lady. As a mother, I am proud to have this offspring of mine growing up into a responsible lady who can cater for herself.
"You called for a discussion", Kayla snapped me out of my imagination and I saw her before me.
"Yes, please take your seat," I said while taking the tryout to wear out my non-chalant attitude.
She assumed her seat directly opposite me, and she was like who's about to take off at any moment.
"Kayla dear, it's been long since we sat this way and had such a conversation. But the main bone of contention is that we should be like family as we did in the time past*. I pleaded with my daughter, but I heard it snapped me immediately.
"It can't work considering the pain and trauma you put me through. The pain of seeing my father dying before my very eyes. "Your non-challenging behavior just disgusted me till this moment," she said while trying to stop my apology to her, and she stood while making this statement.
"Kayla, please let us try to be one. "We might out our indifference and...." I tried to explain my true emotion to her.
"We can't. "As a matter of fact, this conversation is definitely over," she yelled as she stormed off of the living room towards her room.
I wanted to follow but decided to stay back so that she could work out her emotions. I have always known to be emotional and sensitive since childhood.
I sat back hoping she'd be okay. But I was surprised when she left with a bag. She used the auxiliary door instead of the main door which is located in the sitting room. I guess she did that to avoid talking to me or even seeing me. I hope she'll forgive herself and come to family even with the money challant attitude I posed then.
KAYLA POV
Hearing the sound of Reunion as a family irritated me, so I angrily stormed off of the sitting room. While moving, I noticed that she was standing up but didn't move. I didn't care, as what I wanted at that moment was to leave that toxic woman who was behind my hidden pains.
I went back to my room, moving straight to the portrait that I had with Dad. After a brief moment of hesitation, I decided to take it back to my apartment. After placing it in a bag, I left through the auxiliary door to avoid that woman.
Outside, I booked an Uber, which I eventually got and my journey to my apartment began. I had to whine down so that I could permit natural air to come into the car. Occasionally, I stick my face out to observe buildings, using them to distract my feelings.
The car came to an abrupt end as the journey ended. With that, I snapped out of my hallucinating world and settled on the cab man. I went inside and dropped the portrait while I slumped on my bed. While trying to rest, a mild knock was heard on the door. Summoning strength, I stood up and opened the door only to discover Hunter.
"Your face looks pale, didn't you get enough sleep", Hunter inquired as he gained access to my apartment.
"I came back from my mom's house," I told him plainly while trying to avoid any details.
"You really had his resemblance," Hunter said casually as he walked towards the portrait I bought recently.
"Yeah, please can we change the topic?" I pleaded with him, knowing that I was not ready for the emotions.
He understood, and then he went back to the sofa. We didn't say anything for a while, and we looked at each other intensely, but I tried to break away from the eye contact.
"I hope you'll honor my invitation for dinner tonight at Revolvers," he said while maintaining a smiling face.
Before I could respond, a notification on my phone interrupted, and I reached out for my phone. Opening the message, I was dumbfounded. The message reads "Meet me at Value Hotels in 18hrs, Lucas".
What are his intentions now?
