Chapter 8 As they walked into the throne room, all eyes were on them. The knights held their spears and swords tightly as they watched them. Kaelith, on his feet, watched Arthur with keen interest as he remembered what he saw last night. Samuel looked around the lavishly decorated throne room, and whistled unconsciously. “Make you wanna live here eh”. He teased, looking at Arthur. The onyx armoured knight had his gaze fixed on the man on the throne. His cold blue eyes not breaking contact with the king's brown ones. Seeing this, Kaelith’s face hardened as he gestured towards the Royal guards. A few knights immediately rushed to the front of the throne, shielding the king from this man. Elara’s eyes widened in surprise as she stared at Arthur and Samuel. “These are the men from last night”. She thought to herself as he wondered what her father summoned them for. The king raised his hand as silence followed. The knights sheathed their swords, but still placed a hand on it's hilts. “Hail, celestial emperor, Lord of the realm”. Samuel bowed deeply, showing his respect. Arthur stood there, not paying attention to Sam as he kept his eye on the king. “Blasphemy!!”. A noble yelled as an uproar ensued. “kneel wretch!!!, ye shall not disrespect the celestial emperor!”. Another yelled. “Thy impertinence is an insult to the heavens themselves”. Kaelith said, his face stern as the nobles murmured. The king stared back, his gaze just as firm. The knights unsheathed their weapons, pointing it at Arthur and Samuel. “Wait why me?...I bowed”. Sam said as he raised his arms up. Marlowe walked up to them, lifting his white cloak off the floor. “Your arrogance shall be thy downfall!!, show the proper respect to the king or face the consequences”. He said, standing behind the wall of knights. Arthur still stood firm, unmoved by Marlowe’s words. Breaking his gaze from the king, he turned to Marlowe. Marlowe visibly flinched at his intense gaze, taking a step back. “Demon”. He muttered to himself. “you are but a mere mortal, yet you dare show disdain for the divine ruler?...have you no fear?”. Marlowe asked, his voice shaky. “I fear no man who bleeds the same blood as i”. Arthur's voiced boomed throughout the throne room. The room fell silent after his words as all eyes widened in surprise. Kaelith couldn't believe his ears. “Who's this man?”. He asked no one in particular. Elara gasped as her brows furrowed. “Oh no…this would be a problem…why are knights foolish?”. She asked herself as she looked at her father. A loud laugh could be heard, coming from the king. Holding his belly, he laughed even harder as he clapped his hands, seeming amused. Everyone had a confused look on their faces, even the knights as they turned to look at their king. “What is yer name ser”. King Xandros asked, curiosity visible in his eyes. There was a deafening silence, as everyone held their breathe waiting for the man to talk. “What?...is he a mute now?”. A noble asked. “Pardon me my Lord”. Sam said as he stepped forward. The king nodded his head in acknowledgment. “Hear ye heae ye, i introduce to you, ser Arthur of Raven watch. The Black reaper”. Samuel announced proudly with a smirk on his face. A gasp filled the room as everyone murmured. The knights took a step back, trying to put distance between them and this man. “Ser Arthur of Raven watch”. The king said, looking at them. “And what is your name young boy?”. He asked Sam, and amused smile on his face. “Samuel Thaddeus, my lord”. Sam said with his head bowed. King Xandros nodded his head seeming pleased. “Now, tell me about Brindlemark”. He said as the nobles turned they're attention to the duo. “We found Skarvs my lord…the town was destroyed upon our arrival”. Samuel started. “Skarvs?”. Kaelith tilted his head to the side, confusion visible on his face. “Non were spared, not even children”. He continued, his voice heavy. “ A Skarv that far east?”. Marlowe interrupted, raising a brow. “You must be a fool”. He said laughing at Sam. “Skarvs…they were more than one”. Sam said,as his expression hardened. The nobles murmured amongst themselves in belief. “You dare to lie in front of the celestial emperor”. Marlowe yelled out. “Where's the girl?...bring her in at once”. He said as the innkeeper was brought in front of the king. “Now you wench, are these two speaking the truth?”. He asked with his hands behind his back. “Yes my lord, they speak the truth, I saw it with my own eyes”. She said as she knelt down with her head bowed low, almost touching the polished floor. “They were three of them your majesty”. Samuel interrupted. Walking forward, he open his bag as he dropped the Skarv's limb on the floor. Another round of gasp filled the room as the nobles murmured in disbelief. “Could it be?”. One asked the other as they stared. King Xandros got up from his throne, a suprised look on his face as he looked at it. He couldn't believe what he saw. Even Marlowe couldn't believe his eyes. Never had he seen a Skarv in all his years. The room got grimmer as the amputated limb seemed to draw the light out of the air once more. Elara looked astonished as she walked up to her father. “Father”. She called out softly to him. “Hold fast men”. Kaelith said as they gripped their swords tightly. Lifting his face, the king looked at Arthur in disbelief. “You killed this thing?”. He asked, as his eyes searched Arthur's blue ones. “He killed Three of them, your majesty”. Samuel stated, with a smile on his face. “Lies!!!...all lies!!!”. Marlowe screamed. “No one has ever seen a Skarv and live to tell the tale”. He spat, irritation visible on his face. “I speak the truth your majesty…I swear on Selene's name”. Sam said as he knelt on one knee. King Xandros looked at Arthur, seeking any sign of confirmation on what he just heard. “Is this true?”. He asked. The room was silent as everyone held their breath in suspense. Arthur gave a single nod. King Xandros sighed, his eyes in disbelief. Marlowe was in disbelief as well as he fell back on his seat. “What is this?”. He asked himself as he looked at the onyx armoured knight. Standing up straight, King Xandros looked around his throne room. He could see that everyone had a worried look on their faces. “Let it be known throughout the land: Arthur, the Skarvslayer, is a hero of our realm! We grant thee land, title and our eternal gratitude”. He said, raising his scepter. “Huzzah! Skarvslayer!! Huzzah!!!”. A noble thundered, leading the chorus. “From this day forth, you are: Arthur of Raven watch, Skarvslayer”. King Xandros declared. “Huzzah!! Huzzah”. The n obles chorused again. Sam looked at Arthur, his smile reaching his ears. “No”. Arthur said as the nobles cheers died away.
