Am I Going Crazy?

1467 Words
I wake up and get ready for the day. I wasn’t looking forward to mom and dad leaving today but last night gave me a little reassurance that I wouldn’t miss them too much.     I come downstairs and see Elijah and Everett sitting on the couch on their phones. Just to annoy them I go and plop across both of their laps making them groan. I wasn’t that heavy to I go to look for my mom and find her in the kitchen with Aunt Nancy, James and Ian making breakfast. It smells delicious and my mouth is already watering. I go to the cupboard and start to set the table as my brothers start to bicker, and my mom makes them leave the kitchen.     “Make sure that you set out 12 places Adira we have guests coming for breakfast,” Aunt Nancy calls from the kitchen as I am setting everything up.     I do as she says but I can’t help but wonder who is coming to the house? My parents have friends, but I have never met them, and they have never come over while we have been here before. It is weird especially since we have been coming here since I was in 2nd grade.     Suddenly there was a knock at the door and my uncle went to answer it with my dad close behind him. I continued to set the table and help grab all the dishes while waiting to see who was here. Finally, my dad and uncle walk in with our guests behind them.     “This is my daughter Adira. Adira these are our good friends Michael, Anthony and his wife Caroline.” Dad says smiling at me.     I give them a smile and go to give them a handshake when I am pulled into a hug by Michael.     “A daughter of Jack and Lilith is basically a daughter of mine,” He chuckles as I feel like I am being suffocated by how hard he is squeezing me.     “Michael, I think you are suffocating the poor girl,” Caroline says in a soft voice.     He immediately lets me go and gives me a smile and a small pat on the back. Caroline then elegantly comes over and gives me a small hug and flashes me a gorgeous smile.     “I am very happy to meet you Adira. I have heard so much about you from your parents over the years.”     “Last time we saw you was when your parents left for Alabama.” Anthony said also giving me a hug.      “It’s nice to meet you all as well. Mom and Aunt Nancy are in the kitchen I will let them know you are here.” I head into the kitchen and let them know that our company has arrived.     James, Ian, Elijah, and Everett were talking to everyone when we got back in the dining room. As soon as we stepped in the room, Michael gives my mom a smirk and starts to stalk towards her. She sees him and squeals, “Mikey don’t even think about it!” She tried to get away, but he ended up picking her up and giving her a bear hug.     “Mikey put me down you big lug,” mom tried to sound stern, but it was pretty hard when she was laughing.     “But Lil I haven’t seen you in years!” he said putting her down. “I haven’t been able to properly bug you like a little brother should.”     Wait, What?! My mom has a brother, and I didn’t know about it? I look around and no one even my brothers seem stunned by the statement. Did I hear that right? I must have misunderstood because my brothers didn’t seem shocked like I did. I look back to my mom who is smiling at me and doesn’t try to explain. I ignore what just happened because my mom would say something if she had a brother, right?     After breakfast, our guests bid their goodbyes and I watch as my mom walks them out. They promise to come see us again before we go home. The rest of the day I hung out with mom until they had to leave for their flight.     The longest I have ever been away from my parents was a week and that was only when I went to summer camp a few years ago. I looked up at my parents and gave them a big hug. “I will miss you guys so much!” I said squeezing them tightly. I started tearing up not wanting to be away from them for so long. My dad wipes away my tears and kisses my forehead.     “We will be back at the end of the month but until then we got you a present.” He handed me a necklace with an emerald crescent moon.     “It is beautiful, thank you guys!”     My mom helped me put it on and I immediately fell in love. I am never taking this off! My brothers didn’t seem to mind that I got something, and they didn’t which was totally unlike them. We all said our goodbyes and I watched them from the door until I couldn’t see them anymore.     I sighed and decided to go take a shower. I didn’t wasn’t tired enough to go to bed but I wanted to get into something comfy and maybe watch a movie with my aunt.     I hopped out of the shower and started drying off when there was a knock at the bathroom door.     “Who is it?” I yell.     “It’s Everett. Elijah and I are going to a bonfire with a few friends. You’re coming so get ready.”     “Everett, I don’t want to go. I don’t know anyone.” I whined.     “We are starting this vacation off right and you aren’t going to go to bed it is only 8. Meet us downstairs in 30 minutes or else we will drag you out of the house.” Everett laughed walking away.     My brothers have always tried to look out for me and help me to fit in. They are always taking me out with them places and making me hangout. It was nice but I just never seemed to fit in. I liked to stay home and have movie nights. I have never really been a party goer. But I knew if my brother said I was going out I was going out. Last time I tried to tell him no and wasn’t ready they took me anyway and I was in pajamas.     I flopped on the bed and groaned. I rolled over and grabbed my phone and started Face Timing my best friend. On the first ring Kiara picked up and immediately started talking.     “Why am I just now getting a call from you? Have you seen any hotties at the beach?”     “I am sorry I was busy settling in. I haven’t been on the beach yet, but Elijah and Everett are making me go to a bonfire with them and I don’t want to.” I pouted.     “Good go out and have some fun! I wish I were there to party it up with you! Maybe I can convince my parents to buy me a ticket to come stay with you for a week!” Kiara is just like my brothers always dragging me out or helping to drag me out of the house.     “I would love for you to be able to come and stay! But the reason I called is I need your help on what to wear to this bonfire.” I was always helpless and picking out cute clothes for situations like this.     “Wear a pair of short cut offs and one of the flowy tanks I bought you. Don’t forget to wear your suit underneath your clothes just in case someone wants to go swimming unless you want to go skinny dipping” She said then winked.     I rolled my eyes at her.     “No one is going to ask me to go swimming with them,” I stated.     “Just don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” she said giving me a wink     I blow her a kiss and hang up the phone.     I hop off the bed to get dressed before my brothers drag me downstairs. When I am finished getting ready, I look at myself in the mirror. I didn’t put on any makeup just in case I did go in the water. I left my hair naturally curly and put on my mint 2-piece bathing suit and threw the outfit Kiara helped me pick out over top. I hurried and put on my white converse and ran downstairs were my brothers were waiting.     “Are Aunt Nance and Uncle Bernie ok with us going out?” I asked before we took off.     “Yeah they don’t care what we do as long as we are back before morning,” Elijah said heading to the car.     I groaned I can tell this is going to be a long night.
