The bang on the door startled me awake. For a moment, I forgot where I was. The large bed, the unfamiliar ceiling, the faint scent of pine and stone in the air all rushed back at once. Moon Pack. Alpha house. Kael. I pushed myself up, my body still sore but better than yesterday. The knock came again, firmer this time. “I’m coming,” I called, my voice rough with sleep. I slipped out of bed and walked to the door, pulling it open slowly. A young woman stood outside, dressed in a simple maiden’s outfit, her hands folded neatly in front of her. She lowered her head slightly the moment she saw me. “Good morning, ma,” she said politely. “I was sent to get you ready for the morning meal and to begin your instruction on Moon Pack rules.” “Oh,” I said, still adjusting. “Alright. I’m Elara.”
