I glanced around to make sure that nobody could hear what we were talking about before saying a word. "Stephen, I am not too sure about this. I have met Carmen and she seems to be a nice person. She has even won the heart of the council. Not to mention, it would break our parent's hearts." I said to my brother.
"What are we doing besides giving her information. We are not telling her to do anything." My brother attempted to reason with me.
"Just because we live in the human world, it does not change the fact that we are werewolves. Doing any part of this would betray who we are." Stephen chuckled. "When was the last time that you shifted? Fought a battle? We may be werewolves by blood, but we are human by our hearts." Stephen stated that completely shocked me.
"Since when Stephen? You do not claim your heritage? I may live in a human world but I am looking forward to returning here and meeting my mate among my own kind. When did you start hating being a werewolf so much? That is disappointing" I said to him
"I will give you this, Carmen seems like a nice woman, and I regret that we must sacrifice her so that we will live comfortably." I looked at him with shock, he sounded so cold. I was really starting to regret that I went along with this at all.
I scented my mother. One of the qualities of being a werewolf that I made sure remained sharp. I knew that Stephen had not scented her. In a way, I was hoping that she would overhear what he was saying and it would halt his plans.
"Who are you two going to have to sacrifice?" Pauline asked. My heartbeat sped up. I did not say a word, waiting to see how Stephen was going to get out of this one.
"A neighbor back at home. She is way too loud and we have tried to get her to quiet down. We will have to speak with the landlord when we return home. He may make her move." Stephen said without missing a step. I could not believe that he could lie so easily while looking my mother in the face. " Well come in, and tell all of us the information that you said may interest us. Pauline said.
As I was walking in, I begin to like this plan less and less. It wasn't like we were from a poor family. On the contrary we were from a wealthy family. Stephen had became so wrapped up in the human world, that he would not be satisfied unless his pockets were overflowing with human money. I thought that I felt the same until I got back here. Every second here felt more like home than back with the humans.
We took a seat as everyone was watching us. "So what information do you have for us?" Fenris asked. I was really curious how much Stephen was going to divulge. What he did not divulge, I surely was.
"Paul had told me that Carmen had a very interesting way of shifting. To be honest, I did not think anything of it until I saw humans chasing a werewolf. He was doing the same kind of shifting that you had described Carmen doing. I know that you had said that she was looking for her parents. It made me wonder was this wolf related to Carmen." He said, leaving over half the story out. "Where did you see this wolf?" Malcolm asked.
I spoke quickly before Stephen could answer. "We saw him about one hundred and fifty human miles north of here. But Stephen left out some things in his excitement. This wolf was no ordinary wolf that shifted quickly. This was a warrior wolf. He was the size of Fenris or maybe bigger. There was no doubt that he immediately recognized as werewolves. The look in his eyes spoke volumes. He was with a female that appeared to be his mate. She was nothing short of magnificent. I never seen a tawny colored wolf. Her eyes matched her fur exactly. When the hunters started to shoot, both of them began the quick shifting deflecting their bullets. It was the most amazing sight that I have ever seen in my life. If you decide to look for these wolves, the area is full of werewolf hunters and I do not want anyone to get hurt." I said totally ignoring the looks Stephen was sending me right now.
I was not going to allow Stephen to destroy people for money. I admit that I was a bit jealous when I found out that Carmen was mated to Malcolm. I had wanted Malcolm all of my life. Then I saw the way that he looked at her. That is what I wanted from a husband. I did not want someone that had just affection for me. I wanted someone to look at me like I was the most wonderful thing in the world. My mate was out there and I was looking forward to meeting him. The only reason that I probably had not met him yet was because I spent so much time in the human world.
