Chapter 20

1151 Words
Stephen I kept hearing Carmen question over and over  in my mind. It had not occurred to me once that since she was raised by humans that she would be so familiar with their scent. Although the question from her mouth was innocent enough, the look in her eyes told me that she was not foolish enough to believe it.  If she was some lone wolf, then I would have her killed and continue on the task. She was not a lone wolf. She was heavily connected and powerful.  I had been helping the werewolf hunters search for her for over two years now. We had managed to get close to the other members of her family, but they were always too powerful. When I figured out that Carmen must be the sister because of her shifting abilities,  I thought that she would be the easier bet.  We needed her blood. With that blood, we could build weapons that could destroy any being.  With her getting pregnant, it really screwed up my plans. The babies she carried, would make it appear that she had more werewolf blood than she actually did. At least until a week or so after she delivered. My plans were falling apart. It was obvious that Cheryl had no intention of returning back to the human world. She posed a huge danger. She knew about the plan, she knew the location of almost every werewolf hunter. I could see the sympathy in her eyes when she looked at our family. I never thought that I would harm my sister, Yet as each day passed, it became more evident that I would have to kill her. It actually did break my heart. I did care about my sister. I had worked too long and too hard to have her ruin my plans.  There was a bright light though. There was one wolf that might would be willing to help me with my plans. Percivus Sullivan was a man hated by everyone. For wealth, women and safety, he would betray anyone. I had been waiting for an opportunity to speak with him. He really did not have much of a choice. Either certain death or a new life with in the human world with more wealth than he could possibly dream of. Madeline I looked at him and could not believe that I ever loved him. I hoped that he had changed over the years and that I was not naïve enough to believe his constant lies. "So, you are saying that I should not consider it cheating because you never had feelings for this woman"' This man was absolutely unbelievable. "So if I bedded another man for a year, it would be fine with you as long as I did not develop feelings for him?" A low growl came from him before he could stop it. "Men are different than women. Our need is deeper and hungrier." Percivus explained.  I was so done with this conversation. He was so selfish and arrogant that it was pointless to talk to him about anything. I was so happy when I heard Malcolm and Carmen's voices. I left Percivus mid sentence. "Welcome home you two! I am surprised that Pauline finally let you get away" I said with a smile. Both of them greeted me with big smiles. It was so good to see my son so happy. Although my marriage had turned out to be a thing of misery. Marriage was definitely agreeing with him. They both beamed when they looked at each other. You could see the tiny little baby bump on Carmen. Pregnancy and marriage was definitely agreeing with her. She looked absolutely stunning. I watched her brows furrow. "Is there something wrong Carmen?" I asked looking at her focused look. " I strongly scent the smell of a witch." She said. "Really." I said trying to catch a smell. Malcolm chuckled, "Since she has became pregnant, her sense of smell is extraordinary. Pauline said that she had scented me miles away yesterday" I laughed. "Pregnancy hormones are something else."  I laughed. "I remember shifting to my wolf and biting Silas on his ass when I was pregnant." They both laughed. "Why did you do that?" Carmen asked. "He had eaten the last piece of fruit and I wanted it." I said.  "I cry about everything and I am feeling a little insecure." Carmen said with tears forming in her eyes. I smiled at her, " You have nothing to feel insecure about. You were always beautiful, but you are stunning now. Pregnancy agrees with you." I said. Out of nowhere, we heard footsteps and Percivus say, " You do look absolutely beautiful. My son is indeed a lucky man." He said extending his hand to Carmen. She took his hand, but she was wary. I had been around Carmen enough to know when she did not feel secure around someone. Surprisingly, she dismissed her uncertainty and shook his hand. "I am sure that you two are tired, moving can take a lot out of you. I am gonna let you two settle in. I have some errands to run before it gets too late." Malcolm I was not at all surprised that our room was covered with flower petals and candies, "I wonder who we have to thank for this?" Carmen asked. " I would not even began to guess. Should I give you a tour of our sleeping quarters?" I said taking her hand.  As I showed her the sleeping area, lounging area, and the private bathroom. She was so quiet that I had started to think that she did not like it. "This is absolutely beautiful." She said. I chuckled at her awe and she started to rub her belly " I am starving. I think I am going to raid the kitchen." She said. "Do you want me to go with you?" I asked her, "No, with my sense of smell lately, I can easily find the kitchen. She said. Carmen I was able to find the kitchen within a couple of minutes. I was not sure what everything was, but there was no shortage of food. I filled my plate quickly. The food was heaven. Surprisingly they had made a pitcher of sweet iced tea. Pauline must have told them how much I enjoyed the human drink. I had nearly cleared my plate when I scented the witch again. This time I heard strange noises. I put my plate in the sink and followed the noises. I had walked about five rooms down when, the noises seemed to grow louder. Then suddenly I heard nothing. I waited for a few moments and there was still nothing. I am sure that I did not imagine it. After another wait, I decided to go back to our room. Whatever it was, it was gone now.
