Chapter 27

Stephen

We had gotten back to Silver Moon territory with Maddie. She was still unconscious.  One thing for sure was that both Percivus and Axel had feelings for Madeline. I watched the way Axel touched her tenderly and listened to Percivus possessive growls the entire ride back.  Unless Percivus had some secret weapon hidden somewhere, it was obvious that he would be no match for Axel. 

There was no doubt that Madeline was a great looking woman. She was a werewolf and did not appeal to me. I was simply waiting for me to get the opportunity to leave with Percivus. I knew that the werewolf hunters had arrived. I just needed the smallest of distractions to leave this territory.

I heard Madeline moan, within seconds, she was scanning her surroundings. I smiled inwardly, "She was a hunter, a predator as my human friends would call her. She showed no fear whatsoever. It was no doubt that unlike her husband, she was a fighter. I watched her eyes narrow as she looked from Percivus to Axel. "So  who is going to explain to me why I am here. I told you that I could not make any kind of agreements without the presence of the council." She said not hiding the annoyance that she was feeling. 

Axel reached and took her hand in his, which she quickly snatched away. "Your husband has generously given you to me in exchange for his own life." Axel said. I watched Madeline look at her husband with very little emotion or surprise that he would trade her life for his. "Once again Percivus is offering you something that is not his to give." She said. I could feel the anger and humiliation rise in Percivus, "The last I checked, our divorce is not final and that means that you are still my wife. MINE not Axel's." Percivus growled at them. This was getting more amusing by the second. I thought as I choked back a chuckle.

"Madeline, how much do you know about your husband?" Axel sneered. He signaled for Vera to come out, "I am sure that you know this beautiful lady. This is the witch that your husband has been f*****g for over a year now." Axel said with a smug smile.

Madeline had been cool without much emotion until it was revealed that Vera was the woman that Percivus had been bedding all of this time.  "I should have known. You are in my face everyday begging to have me back and the whole time you are f*****g this bitch." She hissed. Vera gave a smug smile, "He never meant anything at all to me. I even encouraged him to go back to your bed. Then when I found out that I was pregnant... " We all watched Madeline's face turn pale then red with anger. "She is pregnant!!" She screamed at Percivus.

Vera happily unbuttoned her bottom buttons to show her rounding baby bump.  In a flash it seemed that Madeline had calmed down. "That is fine. This will just speed up my divorce." She said. Surprising everyone she  turned to Axel, " If you are serious, I think that we can come to some sort of agreement. Unlike my soon to be ex husband, I keep my word." She gave an overly sweet smile to Axel that chuckled. It was obvious that he wanted Madeline and he did not care how he got her in his bed as long as she was in it. 

I watched them bicker back and forth as I scented the smell that I had been waiting for. I could scent humans all around us approaching quietly.  I rubbed the small silver weapon in my pocket and smiled. Unfortunately for them, all of them would be dead soon and I would take Percivus with me. I had to make sure that they killed his daughter. The last thing I needed was a bastard child running around. 

I victoriously took a deep breath and scented the last thing that I needed to scent at that moment. Before I could make a sound, I saw the flash of black fur knocking me on my back making it hard to catch my breath. "Is that anyway to treat your brother?" I teased hoping that it would distract her enough to get the weapon out of my pocket. Everyone else had frozen in their place.  Instead of  attacking me. She watched me reach into my pocket, I smiled to myself, that would be her fatal mistake. When I drew my arm back to toss the weapon, I felt teeth rip into my forearm. s**t! Why did I not sense the others. He threw me so far in the air, it felt that I was falling in slow motion. When I hit the ground, Carmen had shifted into her human form. "So it seems that I am the wolf you have been looking for. Here I am," She looked so smug that I wanted to knock that smug look off her face. "You are gonna die today b***h!" I told her. Not once did it occur to me that Madeline would immediately take Carmen's side. It should have because she was her son's wife and pregnant with her grandchildren. When she barreled into me. I knew that I was in trouble.

"Today, here and now, you will pay for all the werewolves you hurt and you will die by my hand." Carmen said. I watched her shift back into her wolf and prepared to die.

I looked at Stephen's blood soaked face and felt nothing but hatred. He was there to hurt everyone I loved. He had planned to kill me and take me away from my babies. I leaned my head back and let out a death howl. As I leaped in the air, I felt several stabs of pain that knocked me out of my wolf and I hit the ground with a heavy thud.

I looked at my wounds, fortunately I was hit in the legs and my upper back. My babies were protected I thought as blackness overcame me.

I don't know how long that I had been out, but my hands were tied with silver rope when I awoke. I glanced around and saw a couple of wolves that I did not know dead on the ground. 

"Lets get her back to our side, you know she has fairy blood and she heals a lot faster than the regular werewolf." One of the humans said. Hearing this, I made sure that I lay perfectly still. I did not want them to know I had regained consciousness. 

"Look! Her body is already pushing out the bullets. we gotta go now!" Under my eyelids, I know that I saw more than fifty humans. They dropped me on the back of a trailer like a was a bag of garbage. I had to bite down to keep myself from moaning in pain.

Where was my family? Had they been killed too? Suddenly I saw Malcolm in a vision and thought about the pain that he would feel with loosing his wife and children. I felt so helpless.

I heard Stephen speak to Percivus, " This is your chance to live. There is not an alpha in these woods that do not want you dead. You can come with me and work with me. I can guarantee you wealth and more women than you can dream of.  You will be respected and there will be people running to do whatever you want them to do."  At first, I thought that I did not hear Percivus' response.  "Would I be safe? Percivus asked. Stephen laughed out loud. You will be safe and living the life the you have always wanted to live. Unless you want to stay here and wait until your baby is born." Stephen said with amusement.
