RIVER A smile lit up my face at the sight of Lexi running toward me. I had been standing by the hockey block, still wondering why the rink was empty, when I heard footsteps. She had told me over the phone to wait here; she wanted to talk about something. Truth was, I wanted to talk to her too. I needed to tell her I finally spoke with her debate coach and fixed my mess. “Hey,” she said when she reached me, and we fist bumped. “Hey,” I replied, my chest warming at the sight of her. “How was your day?” “It was good,” she answered, then turned the question to me as we returned to where we had sat the other day.
