LEXI I stood frozen, my heart thundering so loud I swore someone walking past could hear it. What was Ward doing here? The question screamed inside my head. Did he come to report that I had run away? Was he looking for me? I shifted slowly, careful not to draw attention to myself, trying to peer through the windshield and see if he was inside. No one was inside the truck, but he appeared behind it a moment later. He was on his phone, and my pulse spiked when he slipped into the driver's seat.
