I was deep in my thoughts when Alissa moved and asked me if I had had anything to eat yet. I told her no and I was not hungry, but she told me she'll get me something to eat. Right when she left Jones came. He sat next to me, put his hand over my shoulder and gave me a soft kiss on my temple. I layed my head on his shoulder.
"I could have never imagined how this day is going to go when you came at my door this morning", I told him.
"Trust me, me neither. But you did good today. If you were a man I would shake your hand and by you a beer for everything you did today", Jones chuckles.
"You are an a*ss you know that? And please let's go for a beer when Tom is back on his feet?", I asked him and feel another tear forming in my eye.
"I know, I know. Of course I'll buy you a beer. And Tom. I don't know how he got here so fast but I'm glad he did".
Jones's eyes changes color and I know someone is needing him. "It's okay you may go, I'm fine", I tell him and smiled so he would buy my bulls*hit.
"You are not fine. But we lost many wolves today. We need to contact every ones' relatives and make sure they know and are welcomed here if they are from another pack. "Hey, please can you call Hannah's parents if she has them? Make sure that her parents know how brave she was today. She was taking care of people who couldn't protect themselves and I need her parents to know it", I ask him. Jones promises that and gives another kiss on my temple and says his goodbyes.
People are coming and going on the waiting room. I saw how one elderly couple had bad news from a doctor and a grief counselor took them with her some other place. Alissa came and gave me chicken soup and a coffee. She had to go to check her pups. I told her to give them kisses from me and she promised me to do that. Diana came to sit with me for a while. She told me that Kevin was in surgery and might have saved his ability to walk by my commands not to move him. I was so relieved and wished that he could some day run and play with his pups again. I think the time just flew by with no news. I ate half of the soup Alissa brought me, that's all I could take in me today.
I heard a woman's voice asking from info: "Where is Tom Arlington?" and I stood up. I felt that I can't look in her eyes but she ran to me and hugged me so hard I couldn't breath. "Oh my Goddess you are alright!", she whispered to my ear under her breath. I hugged her back and started to cry. "I'm so so sorry. He came here to help me and my pack and now he is.. he is..", I was fully sobbing and couldn't speak anymore. Tom's mother's eyes were wide and she froze. I hurriedly continued "He is in a surgery and it has been Goddness knows how many hours". his mother relaxed her shoulders and sighed in relief. "Honey I have no doubt he is going to be alright. And of course he came here to you. He loves you and is always worried about you. Sometimes I feel like you guys are mates you are just too stubborn to realise it", she says. Tom's father arrives and looks at me and graps me in his arms. It's a bit weird because he has hugged me only once before and that was when my father died. He lets go of me and asks: "do you mind telling us what happened here? It looks like a battlefield outside". His father has always been practical. "Oh and our Alpha is coming also. You remember Nathan? I think you guys were in the same summer camp years ago", he continues. "Yeah I remember him. Nice that he is coming too", I answer and start to tell them everything that happened and what I know about the attacks.
I haven't seen Nathan since the summer camp. He was Tom's best mate then and I think it still goes on because Tom is his Gamma. I think Tom could have been the Beta really, but he wants to train his men and women. Gammas also takes care of pack's Luna and as long Nathan wouldn't find his, Tom could concentrate on training himself and others. At the summer camp Nathan was following when ever he could. Future Alphas had a bit different camp experience than the rest of us. He had to take lessons on leading, fighting and politics. We really felt a bit sorry for him. But when ever he could he came with us to fishing and swimming and climbing and what ever we did. He was this black haired a bit nerdy kid with glasses. I was so tired of him correcting when ever I made a mistake, like threw rod wrong or fell in climbing, so I did some pranks. I put toads in his drawer and changed his shampoo to milk. Stuff like that. Tom always knew that it was me, but he never ratted me out to Nathan. Sometimes he even gave me new ideas. It was funny to wait for the moment Nathan realised that his shampoo made his hair stink really bad. It's sad we haven't met after that. Tom usually spent summers at our pack. I think his father knew he wanted to stay as a Gamma so it's good to have at least a clue how women's brain work. Sadly he was paired with me so I think he still doesn't have a clue. And after we turned 18 with Tom I haven't been at their pack. But Tom always tells me stories of their adventures and I think they are good together. And of course there still is the Beta to accompany Alpha and Tom.
I finish my story and Tom's mother and father looks at me in silent. "It's good that Alpha Nathan is coming here. He needs to know about this. What ever the rogues are doing with the pups, it might escalate to our pack also. Are there any pup missing?", Tom's father asks. "I don't know. I heard about this today right when the rogues attackes. I have not heard any missing pups, but I have been here all evening", I tell him and he shakes his head "pups. It is disguting to attack on innocent babies".
A surgeon comes to the waiting room and tells that he is Tom's surgeon. We three jump right up and the surgeon comes to us. "Tom is alive and he is in recovery room. We managed to get the arrow off. The arrow has been sculpted to make as much harm as it possible could. It ruptured Tom's spleen and we had to take it out. Otherwise he is going to be as good as new. Just make sure he rests when he wakes up. No hard training for at least a week. You may go to see him now, but remember he hasn't woken up yet, so let him sleep. Sleep is the best medicine there is". Surgeon informs us and walks away. We are all relieved and his mother and father start to walk toward to a recovery ward. I stand behind and his mother asks what I'm doing. "You are his family, you can go. I'll go after you", I tell her. "You silly girl, you are family. Now come along, I need to kiss my little baby pup", she tells me and I go after them.
