Don't jinx me!

"Hoo~" Jon breathed out heavily as he cancels his transformation. The black ring dispersed into blue lights and returned inside his body while the blue veins receded towards his chest area and the size of his arms and hands returned to normal. He turned around and headed towards his apartment. As he was slowly walking, a mysterious kid's voice was heard. "Where to now, master?" Then a blue light flashed on his right side. When he looked, he was shocked that the owner of a voice was a little, blue puppy was floating there, looking expectantly at him. It looked like a teacup Pomeranian but it's forearms were at least twice as big as it's hind legs. These parts made it look like a tiny gorilla, but other than that, all it's other features points towards a teacup Pomeranian dog excluding the tiny black ring on it's back that wasn't rotating. "You're Midnight?" He was not able to get over the fact that the one that helped him overcome a super powered sadistic prick, was a tiny, fluffy, little pup that looked so adorable. "Yes, master. I am your guardian. Please take good care of me." Midnight answered him politely. "How come you sound like a little kid, compared to earlier?" Jon followed up. "Oh, it was during my battle mode. When I am in this mode, I recuperate my used up energies from a fight." Midnight explained. "Since we have just entered a contract, and we synchronized at the start, I am currently drained of my spiritual energy, I'm at my weakest right now." It added. "Synchronization?" Jon asked, this is the first time he has heard of this term from the supernatural since he awakened to his powers. "It is what we call when we, guardians, use our special traits as spiritual companions to combine ourselves with our owners to help them boost their current power manifolds." The pup answered. "I see. But how many folds exactly?" He asked, wanting to know more about the abilities of his new guardian. "I can currently help you boost your power up to two folds, master." It answered after thinking a bit. "Currently?" Jon noticed this peculiar part of the explanation. "Yes, master. As I get stronger with you, I can increase the boosted power that I can give you. But right now, two folds is my limit." Midnight explained. "Wow." Jon was amazed at this information. "Can people see you?" He suddenly asked. If people were to see a flying, blue teacup Pomeranian, hovering around him, it might cause a lot of unwanted attention. "Don't worry, master. Only those that have the ability to see spirits can see, touch and hear me. I am a "spiritual beast" after all." It quickly answered, as if it could read his thoughts. "Okay. So, tell me your abilities. The more detailed the better." Jon nodded and mused for a bit then decided that he should know everything about Midnight so he could use it's powers properly and to his advantage. "Yes, master!" It shouted as it ran around in the air and pointed it's nose tip upwards and let out a cute "arf" towards Jon. It really looked like a playful little dog right now. *** On the uninhabited island. A few hours after the fight. "So two of our men died at your watch because of your negligence, and you still had the guts to return here? This is not some club, you are a SOLDIER! You had a task, and because of your carelessness, two of your men died. How do you explain this?" Geraint was kneeling in front of the throne while being berated by Cador, standing beside Arthur on the throne. "That's enough Cador." Arthur raised his hand to stop Cador's scolding. "We all underestimated the human. It was a good call to have the twins to try and kill him. I would have made the same call. It was already very cautious to send two people to deal with an awakened human. He won't make the same mistake. Don't you Geraint." He added as he looked at Geraint. Geraint immediately saluted towards Arthur and proclaimed. "I will not fail you again, master." Arthur nodded and waved his hand to excuse Geraint. He stood up at the signal and bowed deeply before turning around and leaving the throne room. "You are being way to lenient Arthur, we still haven't started the war and we already lost two soldiers. It might affect your plan." Cador argued as Geraint's silhouette disappeared into the tunnel. "It's okay. There is nothing wrong with a little setback. We have planned for a few millenniums, it's not that bad to push the date a little bit more." Arthur leisurely said as he leaned back on his throne. He looked like he was in deep thought as a mysterious smile formed on his lips. Cador stood silently beside Arthur, solemnly waiting for him to finish his thought.  "Cador." He suddenly said. "Yes sir?" Cador respectfully replied. "Have people help Eddie heal his injuries. Try to help him mutate." "It will be done." "And have two teams monitor the way to the spirit world. Kill any who comes out from it." Cador bowed, acknowledging the orders. "Also, send out the remaining teams to hunt soul guides roaming around the mainland. It's time to irritate those old geezers up there." He followed up right before Cador leave the throne room. He bowed again and left. But he suddenly thought of something and stopped from leaving and turned to Artur and asked. "What about the awakened human?" "Let him be, even if we don't provoke him more than we already have, he will come to us." Arthur waved his hand to dismiss him. He bowed again and really left this time. Arthur smiled to himself after issuing those orders. "Let's see how you like the taste of your own medicine, you old bastards." *** Three days after Jon's fight with Eddie. He decided to continue with his old routine but without Ana. He felt that his daily life was now dull without that girl who bugged him for food every time he got home. There was now no one to cook for beside himself. Even though he had a new companion to spend time with, it did not felt the same without her. "Hah.." Jon sighed heavily as he looked at the cooked hotpot on his dining table. He suddenly remembered the first time that they ate together. Three days felt like three years to him. "How is she now?" He asked aloud as if talking to himself. "Master?" A kid's voice came from Midnight, sitting on the bed while watching cartoons on the television. "No, it's nothing." He answered, returning from his reverie. "I don't get this show, master. Why would this wolf keep on targeting that bird, when he has already tried so many times and had always have his plans backfired, narrowly escaping with his life every time?" Midnight suddenly asked. "He wants to eat the bird." Jon explained. "I can see that, but why not target something else? Something not blessed by the heavens." It countered. "Blessed by the heavens?" He asked. "Yeah, that bird seemed to be blessed by the heavens. Not only does it have super speed, it also has great luck. Nothing that could at least hurt it ever got to hit it." It looked at Jon innocently and blinked it's eyes, looking expectantly. Jon smiled wryly, he did not know whether to laugh or cry. This little guy seem to know a lot about the supernatural side of things, but it's already confused when watching cartoons. *** Time passed. Three more months passed. It is now six months since Jon awakened to his powers. By this time, he has already advance to level nine. According to Midnight, when their contract was done, it blessed him with enough energy to evolve to level eight. So when he heard that snapping sounds again inside his body, it hurriedly told him that Jon has just evolved to level nine. He can be now considered as one of the most powerful under mutated ghosts. "Level nine." Jon murmured to himself after as he opened and closed his fists, he felt the surge of his energy coursing throughout his whole body. He then remembered Geraint, then manager Kent. They were the most powerful people that I have ever encountered since meeting Ana. "Not enough, I need to evolve faster, I'm still far to weak compared to those guys." He thought that he could not even protect himself right now, let alone trying to protect someone else. "Midnight, do you have any suggestions on how I can evolve faster?" Jon suddenly turned to ask his guardian that was traipsing around the apartment. "Faster? Hmm.. Maybe you could look for someone like you, who has awakened his own power? Ask him to train you, or at give you some pointers on how to be stronger quickly." It stopped walking and pondered for a while then thought of something. "Are there people like me here in the mortal world?" He immediately asked. He thought he was the only one to ever awaken. "Of course there are, master. Out of millions of mortals in every few decades, one of them is bound to awaken. They just don't announce it to the whole world." Midnight said in a manner of fact.  "One out of the millions every few decades. That is way too few. How can I find someone like that? And they might not even be alive anymore. Or too senile to even be talked to properly." He mused to himself. "Well, when mortals manage to awaken, their lives are extended by at least three to five years every level. And when they manage to mutate their souls, their lifespans explodes to almost a thousand, considering they don't get killed. And every level after that gives them at least eight to ten years! Oh, and another thing, their looks don't age after mutating. So that's a plus." It suddenly lied down and rolled for it's belly to face the ceiling while it stretched it's legs to relax as it explained to him. It then seemed to scratched the air with its right paw and yawned. "Wow. So that means I get to live past one hundred years old?" Jon suddenly asked to clarify as he thought of living longer than normal humans. "If you don't die prematurely, then yes, master." It answered him nonchalantly. Jon was just about to smile with the good news when his mouth twitched with what Midnight suddenly said. "Don't jinx me, you mutt!" Then he threw his pillow towards Midnight. It cried cutely when it was hit, then ran towards the bathroom to hide.
