Ch 2. SafeHouse

The lights going out startled Blaire. She should have figured with the storm going as crazy as it is, the power would go out at some point. Sliding off the bar stool, she attempted to go over to where he was standing. That is until she ran into a empty bar stool. "Ouch....smart Blaire" She whispered to herself. "Whats going on out there?" She asked him as she was rubbing her knee. The darkness bothered her. She wasn't necessarily afraid of the dark, it was more along the lines of what lurked in the shadows.  "f**k" Draven swore under his breath before turning around to look at her. His eyes glistened in the dark, he had no problem seeing. "The transformer blew. Which means no power until the storms over" He ran a hand through his dark hair before heading back over to the bar.  Pouring another shot of whisky, he downed it and turned the radio on. Hoping there was some sort of update about the storm. "Everyone stay indoors , satellite imaging concludes that the storm wont be easing up anytime soon. The hurricane is just getting stronger, parts of the coast will be flooded. Power lines are down everywhere. Find safety, board up your windows and try to ride this out" The news reporter rattled on, it wasn't looking good. By the sounds of things, they were going to be hit hard. They needed to move, the club was only safe for so long. His home was up on a hill, a good distance from any of the flooding areas. Blaire frowned at the news report, she had never witnessed a storm this bad before. Sure they were drilled about it in school, Sure they always had mock drills about this. Her parents always had an escape route, she just wished they where here now to tell her where to go. The winds picked up again, this time a branch broke through the window. Shattered glass flew in every direction.  "s**t, get down!" Draven watched as she ducked down, he did the same. Blaire crouched down behind the stools and took shield against the bar. She pulled her jacket over her face, trying to shield it from the glass spears. A few thin crimson lines appeared across her left cheek, not deep but still enough to bleed. Her cheek burned with a stinging sensation. She felt a cool finger slide across her cheek. Looking over, she saw Draven.  "We need to move Blaire, the clubs not safe anymore" His voice was nothing but a whisper. "Where would we go? the reporter said to stay inside" Blaire's voice was shaking. Draven caught on to that, she was scared. It was up to him to provide a safe shelter for them to ride the storm out. He helped her up off the floor as soon as the glass settled. Taking a clean bar rag, he dabbed at her cheek. Every cell in his body came alive, the scent of her blood was intoxicating. Its going to take everything i have not to take her blood and body. Pushing those thoughts down he did his best to clear his head. "My house is up on at the top of cedar hill. There would be no flooding, i have steel window shutters that are remote controlled" He looked at her, he saw the fear and uncertainty in her soft features. "I promise, we need to make our minds up soon tho" Draven looked outside, there was a small break in the storm. "we might only have a 15 minute window here" Blaire listened to him, the fact he offered his home as a safe place to go made her grateful. She followed his gaze outside, seeing the break in the storm. Deep down she knew that she was better off following him to safety, then trying to find her own place to go.  "Okay, ill go with you" Draven nodded and reached over the counter, grabbing his keys from beside the till. "Wait here" He rushed around the club making sure all the doors were locked before taking her hand and leading her out the back door.  A red ford f350 was parked directly beside door, making for a quick getaway. Pressing the button on the fob, the trucks lights came to life as the locks released. Both of them jumped into the truck. Draven turned the key and the truck roared to life. Usually he would check to make sure his passenger had their seat belt on, but today there was no time.  Their tiny window was closing and the trip was going to take over 10 minutes to get there, longer if the roads were impassible. Branches coated the roads, parked cars with smashed windshields were almost stationed at every corner. The town looked like it an old war zone, no one was out. No one was crazy enough to be out. "How long till we get to your home?" Blaire watched him as he drove, he seemed so at ease. The thought of driving scared her, she didn't have her license and didn't want it. "Were about 5 minutes out"  Blaire sighed with relief, in roughly 5 minutes time they would be safe, hopefully warm to. She was freezing. Looking out the window, she watched as they drove up the massive drive way. He was kidding when he said he lived on the top of cedar road. The house was huge. It was an old Victorian mansion. large white pillars held the deck up, massive windows, red bricks coated the outside. Draven pulled the truck up to the garage door, putting it in park and shutting it off. He motioned for her to get out and follow him to the house. Blaire did just that, wasting no time. The storm started to pick up again, rain pelted the ground as they made their way into the house. Once inside, he noticed the power was out here as well. "make yourself at home, im going to start the generator to give us some power" Draven headed down into his basement. Blaire nodded and took her jacket off, since it was wet she hung it off a chair as she wasn't to sure where else to put it. The house was dark, she couldn't see where the closet was. The wind howled outside, sending more shivers down her spine. A small whirl made her jump as the lights turned on. Steel window shutters crawled their way down the windows, blocking her view of the outside world. Draven walked back up from the basement. He wasn't sure if bringing her to his home was a good idea, but part of him needed to make sure she was safe. No idea why, but he would soon find out.
