Chapter 7

It has been three hours since the Alpha walked out of the room and I did my work more efficiently than before. However, what he said before stepping out of the room kept going back and forth in my mind. I can't stop thinking about it. Why would he like me to stay here? He doesn't even know me that well. It has been only a few days since we met after all. How can he judge me in a such short amount of time? This was all confusing. I let out a sigh as I glanced at my wristwatch for the millionth time since I was done with the file. How long should I waste my time here, again? I was about to lose my mind when I heard the door opening. I looked behind to see the Alpha stepping in, "I lost track of time" He admitted as he made his way to his seat again. He looked tired compared to the time he walked out of the room. I wondered what happened in that short period, "That's okay" I said, "I am all done, Alpha" I added, handing him the file. "Great," He said, looking down at the file, "Do you mind typing everything from the start?" He asked, rubbing his face with his palm. Was he tired? "Sure" I agreed, "Where-" I didn't get to finish my question as he took out the laptop from under his desk and gave it to me. I took the laptop from him and started my work, typing everything carefully so there are no mistakes in this new document. As I am used to doing these sorts of things, I was done in a matter of minutes. The Alpha was pleased with my work, "That was really quick" He said, "It is almost noon. Let's go out for lunch" He added, glancing down at his watch, "Since you are done with your work quicker than I expected, it will be my treat" Lunch? With him? I can't even imagine taking a bite of fries in front of him! I bit my lower lip in hesitation, "It is nice of you to ask me but-" "You haven't had your lunch yet" He cut me off, not letting me finish my sentence. His eyes hardened just a little yet they still looked mesmerizing to me, "Come" He commanded firmly, leaving no room for any arguments. I bit down my tongue and nodded my head. He exhaled sharply and rose to his feet before heading towards the door. He gestured for me to follow him once he pulled the door open and I complied quietly, walking behind him to his car while feeling too many eyes on me. Isn't it more than enough that these people are mad at me for wearing the Alpha's clothes? Now, if they know I am going to have lunch with the Alpha, I won't be surprised if they think the worst of me. I shuddered at that. To my surprise, he went to a sleek car and took the driver's seat. Since it was only a two-seated car, I had to sit in the front with him whether I liked it or not. Without another word, he put the car on the drive and pulled it out from the property, heading for the main road. A comfortable silence befalls us but that doesn't stop me from fidgeting with my fingers. I kept my eyes ahead, trying to stay cool and composed. "Can we talk about something instead of being quiet like this?" The Alpha suddenly asked, making me jump a little at his voice as I was so used to the quietness of the ride, "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you" He said quickly while I put my hand over my heart and let out a breath. Damn, it felt like my heart was about to jump out of my chest! "That's okay, Alpha," I said, glancing at him. I didn't know what he wanted to talk about but something has been on my mind since yesterday, "About your clothes" I started, "I will return them once I am done with the washing, Alpha" A small yet mysterious smile crept to his lips, "That's alright. Take your time" He glanced at me, "I don't really mind" He shrugged, turning his eyes to the road again. I pressed my lips into a thin line after that, not knowing what else to say. I looked out of the window and just then, I saw a board stating we were now outside of Orchard Square. My eyes widened, "Where are you taking me?" I asked, "Alpha" I added when I sounded too demanding. "We are meeting another Alpha in the neighboring town. We will have our lunch there" Was his reply. He wants me to accompany him to meet another Alpha? I know that I don't know how the werewolves socialized but as far as I know, only the Luna or the Beta can accompany the Alpha when he is about to meet another Alpha. I cleared my throat lightly, "Is it okay for me to come with you?" I asked but Alpha Noah looked confused at my question, "I mean, you are meeting this Alpha for a reason, right? It must be a confidential matter" I trailed off. Alpha Noah's jaw clenched, "I don't see what point you're trying to make," He said, shaking his head. "I am not supposed to be there right?" I asked, "Only a Luna or a Beta can be with you for meetings like this. I am neither and not to forget, I am not even one of your kind" He didn't say anything to that at first but the way the speedometer accelerated was enough for me to know that what I said ticked him off. "You keep saying you're not one of us when your father's genes keep running in your bloodstream" He finally said after a good minute, "As long as you have blood in your body, you are one of us. As for your question, I don't care what the other Alpha thinks about" He added, "You will accompany me" "Forgive me for being too straightforward, Alpha" I apologized, "I just wanted to clarify that" I was still confused but I am not going to pester him with more questions. Alpha Noah glanced at me again but this time, I noticed his eyes were light and friendly again, "Don't apologize for being you" He shook his head, "One of the best things about you is that you are straightforward. I like that" Blush formed on my cheeks and I had to look away from him, "Thanks, I guess" I said. Despite my attempt to not get flattered by what he said, I couldn't help but feel somewhat proud. It is not every day the Alpha of the pack praises a human. "Were there any other wolves around London?" I thought about it, "Maybe there were. I can't differentiate between a wolf and a human. To me, they all look the same and smell the same" I shrugged, "That is one of the reasons why I liked to be there" I murmured to myself. "What about your dating interests?" My eyes nearly bulged out from their sockets, "Excuse me?" I asked him, "That is such a personal question, Alpha" I whipped my head to the side to look at him. He didn't look taken aback by my reaction, "I am just curious" He said, "Did you date anyone while you're here?" He asked, "If I have to guess, you did not" He shook his head. I shook my head, "No, I didn't" I said, confirming his assumption, "Dating someone else's mate is the last thing on my mind" Can't imagine how it will feel to date and be in love with someone until the person who is destined for them shows up to claim what is theirs. It will be so devastating and later, it will be awkward. "Right, I can relate to that" The Alpha nodded his head. Since he was interested in my private matters, it will be only fair if I get to know about him as well, right? "I heard you didn't find your mate yet" I stated. I did not fail to notice how his fingers tightened around the steering wheel at the mention of his mate, "I do not have a mate" He said through his teeth. My eyes widened again, "That's impossible...I know every werewolf has a predestined mate" I whispered and then the gears in my head turned, "Did you- did you lose her-" I couldn't finish my sentence. I was too afraid of how he might react. I know Alpha males are especially unstable when it comes to their mates. He looked at me, confused again but then got what I was implying, "No- no. She is not dead" He chuckled without any humor, "She simply doesn't exist. I do not have a mate" His tone went from casual to bitter in a matter of seconds. "How can you be so sure?" I asked him challengingly, "Maybe you just haven't met her yet. You look young. That means, you still have time, Alpha. Maybe you will meet her in the near future" I encouraged him. The Alpha said something under his breath and shook his head. I couldn't make out most of it but it did sound like, "She doesn't understand-" or something like that. "We're here," He said, pulling the car into a parking lot. I looked out again to see we have pulled in front of a restaurant, "We are having lunch first" It wasn't a question. It was more like a statement. Alpha Noah nodded his head and shut off the engine but no move to get out of the car, "The Alpha that I am meeting will be here shortly. It might take some time for us to be done with the meeting so I hope you can be patient while you wait" I nodded at him, "I will try my best, Alpha" He smiled at me in approval, "Also, you don't have to feel shy or awkward in front of me while you eat" He said, "Just order whatever you want and enjoy it. Think of me as your friend if you're uncomfortable" I nodded again. "Alright, let's go," He said, getting down from the car. Taking a deep breath, I exited the car as well. We both walked into the restaurant together and the waitress immediately recognized the Alpha. She asked him if he wanted to have his usual and he nodded with a warm smile before asking her to my order. "It seems like you come here quite often," I said as I looked down at the menu. Alpha Noah nodded his head, "This is my favorite place to come when I feel like I want to eat homemade food" I heard him say and I looked up to meet his silver eyes again. No one told me anything about his family. I don't remember seeing any of his family members when I visited his house to report myself either. "They all are gone if that's what you're wondering" He added when I stared at him quietly, "I lost them in a battle a long time ago" My heart clenched against my chest at his face, "I am sorry, Alpha" I said, feeling bad for him. He smiled, "Go on, order your food," He said, gesturing me to look down at the menu again. I wasn't a picky eater but I am not really a big fan of seafood, "Need recommendations?" Alpha Noah asked when I glowered down at the menu. I gave him a sheepish smile in answer. In the end, he ordered my meal as well, "Alright, while we wait for the food, why don't we-" He stopped himself in the middle of his sentence and looked to the right, his eyes darting around as if he was looking for something. "Is something wrong, Alpha?" I asked, following his gaze. What was he looking for? He shook his head, "No. I just thought I smelled- Never mind" I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously but didn't say anything else. He fell quiet after that despite wanting to continue the conversation just a few moments ago. I wondered what was wrong but gave up on it after a few minutes of silence plus the stare-down. "Can you please stay in here for a moment while I take care of something?" He finally asked after squirming his seat for a few moments. I did even have the time to respond to that as he was already off his seat and scurrying towards the door. What is that all about?
