When I woke, Lyra was no longer beside me—and the spot where she’d slept was already cold.
I threw off the covers, tugged on a set of shirt and pants, and stepped into the hallway. A maid saw me, she immediately straightened herself and offered a quick smile.
“Prince Kael,” she said, “Princess Lyra was worried you didn’t eat much at lunch, so she had the kitchen prepare a smoothie for you. Would you like it now?”
“Where is she?”
The maid hesitated only a moment. “Princess was called into the King’s study earlier today.”
That… was unexpected.
