20 At first, Brian froze, caught in the middle of some great escape, as Ted parked up. But he soon came to his senses, shutting the window, and racing back to the recliner. Just a regular man taking a regular breather, nothing strange going on at all. Brian heard Ted enter the house, first fussing about removing his shoes in the hallway, and then heading to the kitchen. The aroma of smoky cumin, sweet liquorice, and garlic wafted up Brian’s nostrils.
